About University

West Bengal State University was set up under the University Grants commission act of 1956 Section 3. This university was established in the year 2008. The government of West Bengal had to pass the Annexure 28 of 2007 of the West Bengal Act to set up this university. It is a rural university that offers some rural courses that are relevant to its environment, like agriculture, fishery, etc.

West Bengal State University aims to encourage dissemination of knowledge with a view to ensuring better job opportunities for the students.

West Bengal State University Placements

a) Few companies and/or their partners came to visit our campus for possible recruitments. Here is the few of them: TCS, Larsen & Toubro, Srei Sahaj e-Village Ltd., Tatwa & Limtex, Nicco Ventures, SRF Ltd, Tech Mahindra, Air Cell etc. 
(b) About 30 Students have been placed through direct campus recruitment. 
(c) About 50 students have been placed after giving training on focused area. 
(d) A total of 20 students has been placed in off-campus mode.

West Bengal State University Scholarship

The university has numerous scholarships to offer its students. Some general eligibility criteria for the scholarship are:

  • The student has to provide documents showing that his/her family income is less than 4.5 lakhs per annum
  • In the case of SC/ST, the student is to provide certificates of being an SC/ST.

West Bengal State University Achievements

(a) 9 students have qualified GATE and 5 students have qualified NET/SET of which one ranked 14th.
(b) Extramural research funding through competitive grants to the tune of approximately RS. 2.40 crores by various funding agencies like CSIR, DBT, DST, ICAR etc to the Department.
(c) Department recognized by DBT, Govt. of W.B. under BOOST Scheme.
(d) Average journal impact factor (ISI®) of publications from the department is 2.934 for last five years.
