About University

University of Madras has 18 Schools and 68 departments of post-graduate teaching and research along with 109 Affiliated Colleges. The University also have Approved Institutions (OT) – 3, Stand-alone Institutions (MBA/MCA) – 16 and 52 approved Research Institutions. The University has its own department of distance education named as University of Madras Institute of Distance Education (UNOM IDE) in order to impart quality education. Students can get all details regarding study material & exams through several study centres of Madras University. Madras University offers several courses under Choice Based Credit Sy/stem (CBCS) for both post graduate departments & Institute of distance education (IDE) as discussed below:

Madras University Admission:

Madras University offers admission to PG courses in regular mode & UG courses in distance mode.  In order to secure admission to PG courses including MBA & MCA, students need to qualify in Tamil Nadu Common Entrance Test (TANCET 2017). The University has stepped in to a revolutionary Earn while you learn scheme for PG & Research programmes. In this scheme, you can work as a laboratory assistant/Technical assistant or Library assistant on part time monthly basis. In lieu of your work university will give you a suitable amount as stipend.  

Madras University Exam Time Table:

Students can download their semester exam time table for November 2016 exam session as given on the official link of University of Madras.  Here you may find all details about semester wise exam timetable with respect to the particular subject code.

Madras University Hall Ticket:

Students who are going to appear for their semester exams conducted by the University can download their admit card cum hall ticket from the official page of the University of Madras. Follow these steps to download your admit card for November 2016 session.

  1. Visit to the official page of Madras University.
  2. Now enter your registration number along with Date of Birth (DOB).
  3. Click on submit button & take printout of the hall ticket.

In order to download the hall ticket for distance courses, you need to visit the official link to download the admit card. Enter your enrollment number & click on submit.

Note: University will not assign manual hall ticket under any situation.

Madras University IDE:

Madras University invites students to join their Distance Learning Programmes which are available throughout the year for the Academic Session (June to May) as well as for Calendar Year Session (January to December).

UNOM IDE at present offers 97 Degree Programs: 27 Undergraduate, 21 Postgraduate, 18 Professional, 21 Diploma, and 10 Certificate courses. Professional and job oriented programs are now offered in collaboration with various industries time to time.

Madras University Result:

Madras University announces the result for its regular PG & Distance UG courses on the official website. Students can check their results by simply entering the desired information.

  1. Visit to the official website of UNOM.
  2. Navigate to the result section on the official webpage.
  3. You will find the list of those exams whose result has been out.
  4. Click on the desired link & select course & name & enter your roll number.
  5. Now click on the submit button, the result will be displayed on the screen.
  6. Save & take printout of your result.

Students are advised to follow the above steps in order to check the result status for UNOM instant (regular) result, UNOM revaluation (retotal) result & UNOM private study say, the distance mode result.

National Services Scheme (NSS)

The NSS is a value based youth programme aimed at developing the personality of our educated youth by involving them in community development during their leisure hours. This scheme was introduced in the University of Madras as early as 1969. The NSS had a voluntary strength of 18,300 which was spread over in 105 colleges in the University of Madras
