About University

Established in 1966, Madurai Kamaraj University is one of the oldest public universities of the country covering four districts of Madurai, Virudhunagar, Dindugal and Theni for its regular academic programme. Operating through 77 departments and 20 schools, MKU currently has 24 autonomous colleges, 14 aided colleges, 33 self-financing colleges, 4 evening colleges and 6 constituent colleges.

The university offers 41 post graduate, 35 M.Phil. and 17 Diploma / P.G. Diploma / Certificate courses in various departments. In addition to imparting education through regular mode, MKU also offers 37 UG, 55 PG and diploma/ certificate programmes under the Directorate of Distance Education through its various academic centers located in India as well as overseas.

MKU Admissions

MKU PG Admissions

The university offers various PG programmes such as MA, M.Sc, M.Com, MBA and MCA on the basis of marks scored by the candidate in the university entrance examination. Candidates seeking admission to PG courses should fill the online application form available on the university website and send it along with the registration fee and relevant certificates within the stipulated time.

MKU M.Phil Admissions

MKU offers M.Phil programme in 35 disciplines to candidates who possess the relevant postgraduate degree from a recognized university. Admission to the M.Phil programme is done on the basis of marks secured by the candidates in the university entrance examination. Those seeking admission can register themselves by filling and submitting duly filled-in applications available at the official university website along with the required processing fee.

MKU Ph.D Admissions

The university offers Ph.D course in various disciplines of Science and Social Science under UGC Non-NET fellowship scheme. Final selection of the candidates will be done based on marks secured in the university entrance examination and interview. Students who possess M.Phil degree can appear directly for interview conducted by their respective research department. Those seeking admission can downloa the application form through the official university website and submit it along with the processing fee.

MKU Integrated MBA Admissions

In addition to PG and Research programmes, MKU also offers five-year Integrated programmes viz. BBA-MBA and B.Tech-M.Tech on the basis of marks scored by the candidate in HSC (10+2) examination. Candidates who satisfy the eligibility criterion can register themselves by filling the application form available at the official university website and submitting it along with the registration fee.

MKU Results

The university follows semester system for all its courses viz. Odd and Even semester. End semester examinations are generally conducted in December/ January for odd semester and in the month of May/ June for even semesters. Results for the same are usually uploaded on the official university website within a month from the examinations.

Candidates can check their semester results for regular courses offered by MKU from the official university website by following the given steps:

  • To begin with, students should log on to the official university website and hover the cursor over “Examinations” tab
  • In the drop down list, candidate should click on “Results” link
  • In the next page, candidate should select the desired link from UG and PG results
  • Next, candidates will be asked to enter their register number and click on “Get Result” button
  • Subsequently, candidate’s result instantly displayed on the screen which they can download and take a print out of it for future reference

Note: Similarly, in case of MKU Revaluation or MKU Supplementary Results, candidates can log on to the university website and go to the desired examination result page to view their scorecard.

MKU DDE Results

The Directorate of distance Education, Madurai Kamaraj University announces the result for its distance learning courses on the official university website. Candidats can check their result by following the below given steps:

  • To begin with, students should log on to the official university website and hover the cursor over “Examinations” tab
  • In the drop down list, candidate should click on “Exam Results” link
  • In the next step, candidates will be required to enter the “Register Number” and click the “Submit” button

About the University

Madurai Kamaraj University is one of the oldest universities of the country. It was founded in the 1965 at Madurai, Tamilnadu. The name of the university was also named after the historical city of Madurai. Initially, the name of the university was Madurai University. But later on, it was changed to Madurai Kamaraj University. The university had added the name of Karmaveerar K. Kamaraj who was the former Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu, in its name. Shri Kamaraj was a visionary leader and had brought several radical reforms in the education system in the state.

  • The foundation stone of the university campus was laid by Dr. Zakir Hussain who was the President of India at that period of time.
  • The university is a statutory University owned and funded by the Government of Tamil Nadu with the recognition of University Grants Commission.
  • There are 20 Schools, 77 Departments, 21 centers, 74 autonomous Colleges of the university. It has 18 approved Institutions
  • The university provides excellent academic curriculum and research facility for its students
  • The university has also been awarded with the status of University with Potential for Excellence by UGC
  • The university has many Centers for Excellence in specialized interdisciplinary areas and it has become the prime destination for the students.
  • The Madurai Kamaraj University offers 41 post graduate, 35 M.Phil. and 17 Diploma / P.G. Diploma / Certificate courses in the various departments. Presently, 66 U.G. and 45 P.G. courses are offered in the affiliated Colleges

Research

The university provides excellent research facility for its students. It awards Doctoral Degrees to its research scholars. The research programs of the university are funded by UGC, CSIR, DBT, DST ICSSR, MHRD etc.

Academic Centers and Information Centers

The university has its own Academic Centers and Information Centers. These centers are located in Madurai, Chennai, Trichy, Theni, Ramnad, Tirunelveli and Nagercoil. The university has also established Study Centers in all other states of the nation. The students and aspirants can get the University Bulletin for free of cost from the Director, Directorate of Distance Education.

Facilities

Library

The Central Library of the university has over 2,00,000 books. The library is well equipped with high speed one GBPS internet connection, INFONET center. It has also smart class rooms that are enhanced by ICT enabled teaching and learning system.

Hostel

The university has five Men's Hostels and three Women's Hostels of its own. The students of Post Graduate programs, M.Phil program and Research Scholars of University can avail the hostel facility here.

Married Research Scholars Quarters 

The university is providing residential quarters for the Married Research Scholars and Post-Doctoral Fellows.
