About University

The Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU) is a distance learning national university located in New Delhi. The university has its presence in the whole country with over 4 million students and growing, IGNOU is the largest university in the world. The university established in 1985 was set up with aims to provide equal opportunities to all the segments of society and to promote distance/open education in India.

IGNOU also acts as a national resource center, and works towards promoting and maintaining standards of distance education in India. It also hosts the Secretariats of the SAARC Consortium on Open and Distance Learning (SACODiL) and the Global Mega Universities Network (GMUNET) initially supported by UNESCO.

IGNOU serves over 4 million students in India, the headquarters, and 40 other countries abroad. It also has 21 schools and a network of 67 regional centres, 2667 study centres, and 29 overseas centres spread across 15 countries. Approximately One in five students enrolled in higher education in India is enrolled with IGNOU.

IGNOU Admission

IGNOU Registration Process

Students can register online to secure admission in the courses offered by IGNOU under its Online Admission System (OAS). Students must follow the given steps to register themselves:

  1. Visit to the official website of the IGNOU.
  2. In the main menu click on ‘register online’ & then click on online admission. After that you will be redirected to the OAS page.

Before registration, students must ensure that they have the following documents:

  1. Scanned photograph & signature (maximum size 100 KB)
  2. Scanned copy of Age Proof & documents in support of educational qualification (Size 400 KB)
  3. Scanned copy of Category certificate (if applicable) & experience certificate (size 400 KB)
  4. BPL Certificate (size must be less than 400 KB)
  5. Fees can be paid through credit/debit card or net banking.

How to fill the Online Admission Form (OAS):

  1. Initially click on the new user registration link & provide the basic details like name, mobile number & DOB.
  2. Now fill the whole application form with due attention & verify the details & submit. After form submission, your username & password will be provided to you on the registered email ID & phone number.
  3. Now login again through the existing user section & fill the online application form. You need to provide the following details in the application form.
  • Personal Information
  • Educational Qualifications (course & correspondence details)
  • Upload of desired (scanned) documents

After completion of all details click on ‘make payment’ & pay through debit/credit card or net banking (INR 60 only).

Status of Application:

Students can check their application status by simply clicking on the ‘Know your status’ section on the home page of OAS. They have to enter their contact number & the application status will be displayed on the screen (whether the application is successfully submitted on in progress).

Note: Students can also re-register themselves by following the same application platform as is given for general registrations.

IGNOU Date Sheet

IGNOU has released the date sheet for term end examination for the December session. Students can download the course-wise date sheet by navigating to the official website of IGNOU. Students have to satisfy the prescribed rules in order to be eligible for the December TEE. Registration for all of the courses must be valid, not time biased. The University conducts the TEE in two sessions, namely forenoon & afternoon. Students are advised to follow the below mentioned steps in order to download their Exam Date Sheet:

  1. Visit to the official website of the IGNOU.
  2. Click on the IGNOU Exam Date Sheet.
  3. Now navigate to the Student’s zone.
  4. Now scroll down to get the new updates regarding TEE timetable.

IGNOU Results

IGNOU is a largest open University in the field of distance cum private education in almost every field of education. The University conducts several exams to offer admission in various Doctorate, UG, PG, Diploma and certificate courses. Students can register online/manually in order to get admission in the people’s University. Students can check their IGNOU results for entrance & term end examinations through the official website of IGNOU.

Evaluation Process in IGNOU

IGNOU follows a unique three-stage process to measure the performance of a student.

  • Self-Assessment: In terms of marks weightage of this section is nil, but it is very important for student’s mental growth.
  • Evaluation through Assignments: It includes 25 to 30% of the total weightage.
  • Term-End Examination (TEE): It includes 70 to 75% of the total weightage.

Computer Marked Assignments (CMA) are required to be sent to the IGNOU campus while the Tutor Marked Assignments (TMA) have to be sent to the respective study centres.

Project

  • IGNOU-UNESCO Gender Training Project: This gender training kit gives you an opportunity to upgrade your knowledge and skills in the crucial area of gender and development. If you are already engaged in gender training or you want to become a gender trainer, you can sign up at the learning centre
  • Construction Workers Vocational Qualification (CWVQ) Project: The project aims at providing competency based vocational training, assessment and certification through the distance mode for skill development of construction workers. The project has been implemented with the help of Builders' Association of India (BAI), National Building Construction Corporation (NBCC) and National Academy of Construction (NAC), Hyderabad.

Library

The IGNOU library is the most resourceful information centre in the country in the field of Distance Education. The library has the largest collection of books, journals and other related materials in the field of Distance Education, throughout the country. It was established in 1986 in tune with the objectives of IGNOU
