IISc (Indian Institute of Science) Bengaluru Admission 2017

IISc (Indian Institute of Science), a scientific research and higher education oriented university, situated in Bangalore, India, was founded in 1909. Tata Institute as it popularly called obtained the status of Deemed University in 1958. Indian Institute of Science is widely regarded as India's best university.

Registration for the courses begins in the month of February and March. The institute follows the online method of admissions. No other method of admission is entertained by the institute.

The institute provides undergraduate, postgraduate and research programmes in different branches of science and technology.

Admissions to the Institute are very competitive. Nearly to every course, admission is done on the basis of an entrance exam.

The Institute understands the importance of education and helps economically and otherwise backward and capable students to clear their studies without any hindrance. It has different Scholarship programmes that help economically weaker students to meet the expenses of their course.

Institute also offers reservation for SC/ST/OBC/Person with disability (PWD) and Kashmiri-Migrant (KM) aspirants.

IISc, Bengaluru UG Admissions 2017

The institute provides a four year Bachelor of Science programme. It is designed as a blend of core science and interdisciplinary topics that will serve as launching pad for attractive career opportunities in academics and industry. The novelty of this programme lies in its interdisciplinary approach, strong flavor of engineering, exposure to branches in the humanities and social sciences, and a year-long research project. The graduates of this programme will obtain a Bachelor of Science (Research) degree with the specialization in a particular branch.

The final semester is devoted exclusively to a research project.

Aspirants who have finished their II PUC / 12th Standard in 2016 and those who are expecting to clear their II PUC / 12th Standard in 2017 with minimum 60% of marks in aggregate and studied Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics as main subjects are applicable to apply.

The Aspirants who have studied Biology, Statistics, Electronics, Computer Science, etc., in addition to Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics are also applicable to apply.

Selection to the course is based on the merit in the following national examinations:

KVPY(IIT) JEE-Main: Aspirants appearing in 2017 and securing an at least of 60% (GN), 54% (OBC-NCL), 30% (SC/ST/PWD) (IIT)

JEE-Advanced: Appearing in 2017 and securing an at least of 60% (GN), 54% (OBC-NCL), 30% (SC/ST/PWD)

NEET-UG: Appearing in 2017 and securing an at least of 60% (GN), 54% (OBC-NCL), 30% (SC/ST/PWD).

Based on the above-mentioned criteria, a merit list will be prepared.

Students who clear all requirements for the award of the Bachelor of Science (Research) degree have the choice of getting a Master of Science degree by pursuing at the Institute for a fifth year. The Master of Science degree will be honored in the six Major branches currently available in the Undergraduate Programme. Students opting for the Master of Science programme will get both Bachelor of Science (Research) and Master of Science degrees at the end of the fifth year if they clear all requirements for the award of the Master of Science degree.

Institute also offers reservation for SC/ST/OBC/Person with disability (PWD) and Kashmiri-Migrant (KM) aspirants.

Scholarships

In its bid to encourage education and research, the Institute also has provision for the scholarship for meritorious students and students from economically weaker sections. Depending on their performance in national examinations such as KVPY, IITJEE (Main and Advanced), and AIPMT, students will be able to avail themselves of the standard fellowships provided by agencies such as KVPY and DST-INSPIRE.

Institute also pays for the expenses incurred by the students during the admission process, once their admission is finalized.

  1. Aspirants who join the Institute are applicable for reimbursement of Second-Class Railway / Bus fare by the shortest route from the place of residence to the Institute. This is as follows:
    • For attending the counseling (both ways)
    • For joining the Institute (one way).
  2. A duly filled-in TA form with journey tickets should be submitted to the Admissions Unit within 15 days of joining the Institute. Beyond this duration, no claim will be accepted.

TA for (i) will be sent to the home address of the aspirant by Money Order only and it will be paid at the Institute for (ii).

IISc, Bangaluru,  M.Mgt Admissions 2017

The Department of Management Studies, one of the oldest management schools in the country (founded in 1948), provides a Master of Management program exclusively for engineering graduates.

Admissions to this course begin in the month of February and the admission procedure begins in the month of April.  The Institute offers reservations to SC/ST/OBC/Person with disability (PWD) and Kashmiri-Migrant (KM) aspirants.

These programmes are based on coursework. The Institute admits about 400 students every year for its course programmes.  The number comprises about 50 sponsored aspirants from the Defence Services, Defence Research, and Development Organization, Indian Space Research Organization, BARC, NAL, CPRI, KSRTC, BMTC, PWD and BDA, faculty members from engineering colleges under the Quality Improvement Programmes.

NOTE : All the aspirants should qualify in the Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE 2015 /2016 / 2017) for  M Tech, GATE or in the Common Entrance Examination for Design (CEED 2016/2017) for M Des, and GATE 2015/2016/2017 or CAT 2017/GMAT  for M Mgt, and possess the valid score as on 1st August 2017.

IISc, Bangaluru Integrated Ph.D. Admissions 2017

Aspirants with a keen sense of scientific inquiry, who wish to pursue advanced research in frontier areas of Biological, Chemical, Physical and Mathematical Sciences can apply to this Integrated Ph.D. degree programme. Experience shows that students entering this program save almost a year compared to those who go for a 2 years Master’s degree program elsewhere and then join the Institute for a Ph.D. program.  Each year, the Institute admits 50 to 60  students (15 to 18 in Biological Sciences, 15 to 18 in Chemical Sciences, 15 to 18 in Physical Sciences and 12 to 15 in Mathematical Sciences) under this program.  The program consists of flexible course work, an internship-type laboratory training (wherein ample opportunities exist for the aspirant to acquire basic experimental skills and familiarity with advanced techniques for research), a research project to demonstrate attainment of a high degree of scientific ability followed by advanced research leading to a Ph D thesis on a specific topic.

A aspirant with first class in B Sc or an equivalent degree with Chemistry as one of the main subjects with Mathematics at the PUC or Plus 2 level is applicable to apply.

The at least requirement of FIRST CLASS in the qualifying examination is relaxed to PASS CLASS for SC/ST aspirants.

The short-listing of aspirants for the interview is done based on the performance in JAM 2017. Interviews are held during 31 May, 1 and 2, June 2017. Selection will be based on the combined performance in the Test and in the Interview.
Integrated Ph.D.Physical Sciences

A aspirant with first class in B Sc or an equivalent degree with Physics as one of the main subjects is applicable to apply.

A aspirant with first class in B Sc or equivalent degree with Mathematics as one of the subjects or BE/ B Tech or equivalent degree is applicable to apply.

The at least requirement of FIRST CLASS in the qualifying examination is relaxed to PASS CLASS for SC/ST aspirants.

The short-listing of aspirants for the interview is done based on the performance in JAM 2017. Interviews are held during 31 May, 1 and 2, June 2017. Selection will be based on the combined performance in the Test and in the Interview.

Aspirants who seek admission to the Ph.D. (Integrated) programmes at Indian Institute of Science should qualify for JAM 2017 and must submit the Indian Institute of Science online application during February/March 2017. The JAM result must be updated online immediately after the JAM results are released. 

Aspirants who have completed JEST 2017 and seek admission to the Ph.D. (Integrated) programme in Physical Sciences are also applicable to apply.

The interview letters for the short-listed aspirants will be sent by email minimum 2 weeks in advance. The SC/ST aspirants are invited to come to the Institute one week before the interview date and interact with the faculty members of the Institute. No isolate communication will be sent by post. TA (second class sleeper class train fare) will be paid to all the aspirants who attend the interview. Such aspirants shall make necessary arrangements for attending the interview.

The Institute provides opportunities for studying advanced research in frontier areas of science, engineering, and technology to motivated and talented students with a keen sense of scientific inquiry.  Research students constitute the largest group on the campus (more than 70% of the student body).  The Institute awards about 250 Ph.D. and M Tech (Research) degrees, every year.
