Free education to all children of martyred soldiers from University of Mysore

Great Opportunity for Children of martyred soldiers will be provided free education, and accommodation, at the University of Mysore (UOM), the varsity registrar D. Bharathi said on Monday. Kids of martyrs will be able to enroll in all courses - from undergraduate to doctoral programmes - for free of cost.

At the UOM academic council meeting held here on Monday 20 November 2017, D. Bharathi said, "Kids of martyred soldiers who enroll at UOM will be provided free education and food, besides free hostel facilities. At affiliated colleges, they will be given a concession. The proposal was accepted unanimously by the council."

While the Karnataka higher education council had directed all varsities to provide free education to daughters of martyred soldiers, UOM decided to extend the privilege to the sons as well.


There are 63 PG Departments offering 76 Postgraduate Programmes with more than 1,20,000 UG, PG, M.Phil, and Ph.D. students. There are 226 affiliated colleges, 66 Recognized Research Centers, 157 Outreach /Research Centers, 8 training centers, 47 specialized programmes, 38 Foreign collaborations and 27 National collaborations. Further, there are 11 PG Departments with National Research Facilities, 14 Chairs, 13 DST-FIST, UGC-SAP funded departments and 13 supporting units. Enrollment of a large number of overseas students from 63 countries reflects the international reputation of the university.

The other key decisions that were taken at the meeting included approval of the new direct recruitment rules stipulated by the Karnataka higher education department. The council also approved to implement the revised pay scale mandated by the University Grants Commission for teachers, librarians, and physical education directors.

The council has also approved the introduction of a new course, professional diploma in tax management.

Meanwhile, the council acceded to the request of JSS Research Foundation and the Bio-Control Research Laboratories to not renew their recognition.

The members of the council approved the proposal to establish the Professor Hashim Ali endowment gold medal by Siraj Hashim Ali, wife of the former UOM professor.
