KVPY 2018 Exam Pattern

KVPY is an objective type paper scheduled in the first week of November 2018. KVPY Exam will be organized in offline method i.e. written test. The KVPY Question Paper will be in two languages English & Hindi that need to be finished in 3 hours.

The number of questions varies in each section and for every stream. Aspirants applying for SB/SX stream have to attempt any three sections in Part I and any two sections in Part II. The aspirants have to attempt all the questions in Part I and Part II for SA Stream.

KVPY (Kishore Vaigyanik Protsahan Yojana) is a scholarship programme which is initiated and organized by IISc at the national level to encourage the aspiring students of Basic Science, Engineering, and Medicine to pursue a research career in these fields. KVPY test is basically taken by students of classes 11th & 12th from science stream and 1st-year students of Basic Science, Medicine, and Engineering.

KVPY 2018 Exam Format

KVPY test will be held in Offline method i.e. pen and paper-based examination. The period of the KVPY Exam is 3 hours organized at different situated KVPY Test Centres. KVPY Question paper has two sections i.e. PART I & PART II. There are 4 parts in each section and the question paper will be a total of 100 marks. The KVPY question paper will be objective type with questions asked in both English and Hindi language.

KVPY question paper is designed for two streams separately i.e. Stream SA and Stream SB/SX. Aspirants have to attempt each question in Stream SA whereas in Stream SB/SX aspirants will have a choice to attempt any three sections in PART I and any two sections in PART II.

KVPY 2018 Exam Format for SA Stream

KVPY Questions Paper for SA Stream contains objective type questions. There are a total of 60 questions in Part I of KVPY Exam for SA Stream offered there are 15 questions in all the four sections. Part II consists of 40 questions with 10 questions in each section.

It is compulsory to attempt all the questions from each section in the KVPY Exam for SA Stream. Aspirant will be rewarded 1 mark for each accurate response and 0.25 mark will be deducted for each wrong response in Part I. Aspirant will get 2 marks for each accurate response and 0.50 mark will be deducted for each wrong response in Part II. The total weight of the exam is 100 marks.

KVPY 2018 Exam Format for SB/SX Stream

The number of questions in Part I is 20 questions in each section and Part II includes 10 questions from each subject. Part I has multiple choice objective type questions whereas Part II will have descriptive type questions.

The total weight of the exam is 100 marks wherein aspirants have to attempt any three sections in Part I and any two sections in Part II of the exam. The SB/SX stream has similar subjects and similar KVPY Exam Format which is tabulated below:

KVPY 2018 Syllabus

Aspirants who are studying undergraduate courses in B.Sc. / B.Math. M.Sc. KVPY exam has two parts Part I & Part II and these parts are further divided into 4 sections for which the syllabus is given below. / M.S. / B.Tech./B.S./ B.Stat. There is no pre-defined syllabus for KVPY Exam hence aspirants are tested as per the syllabus of Class 11th/ 12th and first year’s syllabus of B.Sc./B.Math. / Int. / M.Sc. / M.S. / B.Tech./B.S./ B.Stat. / Int. M.Sc. is applicable to appear in KVPY Examination.

Important Topics for Physics Section

Aspirants are asked questions mostly from the Class XI CBSE Syllabus of Physics in SA Stream. Topics such as Thermodynamics, SHM and waves must be studied properly from Class XI NCERT Book and other references. Basic Class X knowledge about electromagnetism will be helpful. Aspirants must be well versed with topics such as Mechanics, Ray Optics and Electromagnetism.

For SB Stream, aspirants must prepare important topics from class XI syllabus given above and few important topics from Class XII syllabus as well. The important topics from Class XII syllabus of Physics are Electrostatics, magnetism, optics rotational dynamics, fluidity waves and oscillations. Give extra emphasis on preparation of these topics, however all the topics are important.

Aspirants are asked questions based on the fundamentals of physics and not the subjective knowledge about the subject. The aspirant must think about the practical connotations of the question before concluding and responseing it.

Important Topics for Mathematics Section

Mathematics is the most tricky and important sections in the KVPY Exam. For SA Stream, aspirants must prepare well probability, algebra, mensuration, and trigonometry. It is an optional subject for aspirants applying under SB/SX stream and a compulsory subject for SA Stream aspirants.

The important topics for SB Stream aspirants to complete the mathematics section are 2D and 3D geometry and Calculus. Probability and Binomial Theorem hold an equal importance in the exam.

Important Topics for Biology Section

Aspirants who apply for SB/SX Stream have a choice to opt for this section if they are a medical student in Class XI and XII. The SA Stream aspirants have to attempt it as a compulsory section of the exam. The preparation from the NCERT books is the key to score well in the KVPY Exam.
