Eligibility of IES 2018

UPSC has segregated different eligibility categories that an aspirant obligatory to fulfil before applying for IES. The eligibility is defined by the following standards:

  • Age Limit – Age limit for IES 2018 is between 21-30 years of age.
  • Academic Qualification – Aspirant must hold a bachelor’s degree in the field of engineering from a recognised University.
  • Nationality – Aspirants must be a resident of India, Nepal, Bhutan or a Tibetan refugee.
  • Physical Standards – Aspirants must be physically fit according to physical standards defined by the authorities for admission to Engineering Services Examination.

IES 2018 Application Form

IES Registration I

  • This will bring them to the next step of registration procedure i.e. Application Fee payment.
  • In the first part of registration, visit the official website of UPSC to enter individual details and submit them.

Payment of Application Fee

  • The application fee can be remitted through online as well as offline method.
  • In case of the offline method of payment, a pay-in-slip shall be offered for cash payment at the nearest discipline of State Bank of India.
  • If aspirant chooses to pay online, facilities like credit card/debit card or net banking will be available.
  • Aspirant will be redirected to a new page where he/she will have to choose the method of payment.

Registration II

  • Fill in your exam centre choices along with engineering core discipline once you have successfully paid your application fee.
  • Aspirants will have to communicate other details as well before moving to the next step.

Upload need documents

  • Submit all the need information and move on to upload your scanned copy of passport size photograph and completely visible signatures in the given dimensions.
  • Checkmark the declaration to clear IES Registration.

IES 2018 Hall Ticket

  • Last date to download the document is January 1.
  • IES Admit card for both the written papers is announced separately.
  • IES hall ticket 2018 can be obtained from the official website of UPSC by entering the need details.

Following are the steps to download IES Hall Ticket:

  • Enter the Captcha and click on ‘submit’,
  • Click on the link to download IES hall ticket
  • Go to the official website of UPSC
  • Choose the mode of downloading i.e. via Registration ID or Roll Number or Name.
  • Print the displayed IES Hall Ticket
  • Enter the Registration ID or Roll Number followed by the Date of Birth
Note: Any discrepancy in the e-Hall Ticket, has to be communicated to the Commission immediately by e-mail ID latest by December 29, 2017, to enable the Commission to take a judgement in the matter.

IES 2018 Exam Format

  • IES 2018 includes three stages- Prelims, Mains and finally Individual Interview.
  • IES Exam Format is defined by Union Public Service Commission. 
  • A preliminary exam is an objective paper whereas Mains exam is a conventional paper.
  • Both the sections of the written test cover the entire syllabus of relevant engineering subject (Civil/ Mechanical/ Electrical/ Electronics and Telecommunication Engineering).
  • Those who qualify will proceed to the individuality test also known as Interview round.

  • The medium of Mains exam paper will be English only.
  • 5% marks will be deducted from the total marks scored by aspirant if the handwriting is not easily legible.

IES Individual Interview Round: 

  • In this stage, selected aspirants will be judged on his/her leadership skills, individuality, and intellect.
  • A maximum of 200 marks is issued to the individuality test (interview test).
  • Aspirants need to fill Detailed Application Form (DAF) online. 
  • Aspirants shortlisted after IES Mains round will be called for an individual interview session.
  • It is officially known as ‘Individuality Test’ round.

Provision for PwD aspirants 

  • UPSC has made provision for providing a compensatory time of 20 minutes per hour for aspirants belonging to PwD category.
  • Also, aspirants with (at least of 40% impairment) will be allowed to write Engineering Services Examination (ESE) with the help of a scribe.

IES 2018 Result

  • IES 2018 Results will be declared separately for each stage of the examination.
  • Aspirants who will qualify the prelims shall only proceed to the mains examination, those who do not qualify will not be able to sit for IES 2018 Mains exam.

The two-staged IES appointment procedure adopted by UPSC for IES 2018 exam is:

  • Written Examination
  • Individual Interview

The written exam includes two exams- Preliminary and Mains. Completing IES 2018 Prelims is essential to proceed to IES 2018 Mains Exam. The mains exam is qualifying criteria for an Individual Interview session. Shortlisted aspirants will be called for final stage i.e. Individuality Test. The final results and merit list form the basis of a recruitment letter in the name of the aspirant. Aspirants need to qualify for IES cut offset by the commission.
