GATE (Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering) is a national level test for admission to M.Tech/ Ph.D. and other Government Scholarships/Assistantships in the field of engineering and technology. IIT Guwahati, the organizing body of GATE 2018, announced the notification on July 05, 2017 at www.gate.iitg.ac.in.

The exam is organized annually by IISc Bangalore and 7 IITs (Bombay, Delhi, Guwahati, Kanpur, Kharagpur, Madras and Roorkee) on a rotational basis. Check the list of top GATE Coaching Centers and choose the best one for boosting exam preparation.
The national level examination is a computer-based test with 65 questions to be solved within 3 hours. Virtual calculators will be offered to solve numerical type questions. Check GATE Exam Format in detail. Two types of questions are asked in GATE – Objective Type and Numerical Type.
The Final Answer Keys for all the 23 Streams have been publish on the official website of GATE. Aspirants can check their responses at the GOAPS Portal now. Aspirants were given a 3-day window span (Feb 21- Feb 23, 2018) to challenge the answer keys.

It is advised to all the GATE candidates to check their eligibility before making the registration. They can apply for only 1 paper in GATE. The at least academic qualification to apply for GATE 2018 is indicated below for all the participants:
NOTE: Aspirants with a backlog in their qualifying exam have to submit a copy of the final year mark sheets or a declaration from their Principal along with the seal and signature. Check out the documents need in support of GATE eligibility and qualifying branches in GATE.
GATE Application Form was available on the official website from September 01, 2017. An aspirant has to follow 3 steps primarily to register online for GATE 2018. It could be filled online via GOAPS (GATE Online Application Procedure System). In answer to the request received for the extension of the closing date for application submission, it was extended to 20:00 Hrs (IST) on October 09, 2017 (Monday).
The application fee for female, SC/ST aspirants is INR 750 while it is INR 1500 for other aspirants. The application fee can be paid in either online or offline method.

The steps followed to fill the GATE 2018 Online Application form are explained below:
Registration- Visit the official website of GOAPS. Enter few individual details, a valid e-mail ID and mobile number. Create a password which will be used to login later.
Filling GATE 201 Application Form- Enter your individual and educational details in the application form for GATE. Note that the applications cannot be modified post final submission. Preview the form to verify the inattention entered and modify the inaccurate immediately to avoid discrepancies later.
Fee payment- After saving application form aspirant can make the payment by net banking, debit card and credit card. After paying GATE application fees, a fee payment number is generated which aspirant can note for the later stages of the GATE Selection procedure.
From the year 2018, the exam organizing authority has introduced a change that once the application form is submitted, it cannot be changed/rectified. Therefore, aspirants must ensure that all the details and supporting documents are accurate and uploaded. This accurate obligation to be carried out within a stipulated time. If everything is established accurate then GATE Application Form will be accepted else the defects will be notified to the aspirant.
Aspirants should be quick in fixing the mistakes in the form before the deadline. Those who fail to fix, their application form will be rejected and no communication will be made in this regard.

GATE 2018 Response Key for all the papers will be published on the official website soon after the exam is organized. There will be separate question paper and response key sets for all the separate sessions. The response keys can be viewed by logging in using Registration details.
Aspirants can also challenge any response in case the accurate answer is not mentioned on the key. The aspirant can challenge the response key by paying a nominal fee.
GATE Result will be declared on March 17, 2018. Aspirants can check the result by using their GATE 2018 login credentials (Registration No or Email ID). Aspirants those who qualify can download GATE Scorecard from the official Website of GATE.

Aspirants qualifying GATE 2018 will be applicable to download their GATE scorecard. The validity of the scorecard is for 3 years. The steps followed to download the GATE Score Card: Aspirants can download the scorecard from the official website. Before 2014, the scorecard was valid uptill 2 years, the change in increase of the validity up to 3 years was made by IIT Kharagpur in 2014.
GATE Exam Counseling is done separately by different IITs, NITs, and other institutes. Aspirants after having qualified in GATE have to appear for GD/ PI for admission. For admissions, aspirants have to check notification by GATE participating institutes.
For admission in NITs, IIITs and in some government-funded colleges, a centralized counseling– CCMT (Centralized Counselling for M.Tech/M.Plan) will be organized. IITs and IISc will organize their separate counseling procedure. Most of the other participating universities and state wise institutions will organize their own counseling procedure.

Aspirants applying for GATE 2018 will have two options based on GATE score – either to continue with the studies with a Master’s degree or apply for a job with Public Sector Undertaking (PSU) jobs via GATE 2018. All the top PSUs hire graduate engineers based at GATE for different job profiles.

GATE Result is expected to be announced on the official website one month after the exam has been organized. GATE Scorecard is valid for 3 years. The benefits of GATE Scorecard are enlisted below: GATE Scorecard validates that aspirant appeared and qualified GATE.
A decent GATE Score can fulfill any aspiring engineer’s dream of pursuing from an IIT or NIT. GATE enables aspirants to seek admissions in M.Tech. /M.E. / M.S. in their respective branch in IITs or NITs or institutes in Germany and Singapore depending on the GATE Cutoff announced by them.
Institutes such as IIT, Bombay provide admissions to Ph.D., PGDM, and PGDIE programs right after graduation on the basis of GATE Score. Some IIMs reserve seats for admissions to doctoral programs via GATE.
MHRD (Ministry of Human Resource Development) offers scholarships to aspirants on the basis of the GATE Score. CSIR laboratories provide Junior Research Fellowships (JRF) and Senior Research Fellowships (SRF) to GATE Qualifiers. BARC, well-known Institute provides a stipend to GATE Qualifiers. Aspirants who opt for Post Graduate courses via GATE 2018 are given scholarships by MHRD.
Different known PSUs (Public Sector Undertaking) appoint applicable and qualified aspirants for various posts. have recently announced notifications of PSU Appointment via GATE. Aspirants are provided high compensation packages and other benefits (medical benefits and other aids). CEL, MDL, GAIL, BHEL, Cabinet Secretariat etc.
Aspirants have to apply separately for the posts provided by different institutes. The application forms for various PSUs are announced on various dates and aspirants have to submit the application form within the stipulated time to be appointed by the PSU.
NOTE: For GATE 2018 payments would have to be made through online by using net banking or debit card or credit card facilities. Additional charges will be applicable as per the rule of the bank from where the money is being transferred. This charge will be specified on the payment portal.
