Xavier Aptitude Test (XAT) 2018

Xavier School of Management (XLRI) is one of the most prestigious B-school of our country situated in Jamshedpur, Jharkhand. Applicable aspirants can take admission in these courses via Xavier Aptitude Test (XAT) - an entrance exam organized by XLRI. The Institute provides full-time residential MBA, Research Program, Masters Program and Executive Program.

  • Those with a graduation degree from recognised University / College / Institute are considered applicable to appear for the exam.
  • The last date of Registration is the second week of December 2017.
  • XAT Application Form will be available from the first week of September 2017.
  • Aspirants interested in XLRI programs will have to pay an extra fee of INR 300.
  • Participants will have to pay a fee of INR 1600 for XLRI and other B-schools.
  • Aspirants in the final year of graduation may also apply.
  • The exam is organized offline and includes two papers.

Apart from serving as a gateway for XLRI, the score of XAT examination is also considered for admission by more than 150 B-schools all across India. This also comprises B-schools which are part of Xavier Associate Management Institutes (XAMI).

XAT 2018 Important Dates

Dates for the events concerned to the exam shall be made available once the official notification for the exam is announced by XLRI. However to give a rough idea of events we have listed the tentative dates for important events pertaining to the examination.

Eligibility Criteria for XAT 2018

Eligibility Criteria for appearing in this examination is given below:

Nationality

  • NRI and foreign aspirants who seek admission in XLRI – School of Management required not apply for the exam. They can apply via GMAT score.
  • All Indian aspirants are applicable to appear for XAT 2018.
  • Aspirants from Dubai and Kathmandu also have the option to appear for the entrance exam.

At Least Education Qualification

  • Additionally, aspirants appearing in the final year examination of their graduation are also applicable to apply for XAT 2018. In such a case, an participant has to submit proof of graduation before the start of academic session.
  • Participant should have a Bachelor’s degree in any branch from a state or central recognised University / College / Institute.

XAT Application Form 2018

Aspirants applying for XAT 2018 will have to wait until September 2017 to fill the application form. The steps for the same are mentioned below: The form can be filled only online.

  • Upload the scanned images of photograph, signature and necessary documents.
  • Register on the website by giving the necessary details.
  • Select the program of your choice for XAT 2018.
  • This will create an account and will offer aspirants with a XAT ID and Registration Link.
  • Visit the official website of XAT, www.xatonline.net.in
  • Fill all the need details such as individual, contact, qualification, etc. after logging in using XAT ID and password.
  • Make the fee payment.

Aspirants have three options or modes via which they can make the payment.

  • Method 2: Cash Payment-Aspirants will be need to take a printout of XAT Pay-In-Slip visit nearest IDBI bank and make the payment in the bank.
  • Method 1: Online Payment Gateway-Via VISA/Master Credit/Debit Cards (American Express Card is inadmissible) or IDBI Net banking
  • Method 3: Demand Draft-Make DD in favor of “XLRI Jamshedpur A/c XAT” payable at Jamshedpur from any bank for the prescribed amount.

Registration Fee

Aspirants who are appearing for XAT 2018 but are not interested in XLRI have to pay registration fees of INR 1600. Aspirants who are appearing for XAT 2018 and also seek admission in one of the courses of XLRI required to pay an additional amount of INR 300 each.

Once the form is filled and submitted successfully a confirmation page is generated. Aspirants have to send the confirmation page along with the demand draft to the address mentioned below:

XAT Hall Ticket 2018

XAT 2018 Hall Ticket shall be made available from mid-December 2017. It is the duty of an participant to download the hall ticket when it is available. Note that XLRI does not send hall ticket through courier or email.

Given below are the steps to download the hall ticket:

  • Admit card is to be downloaded from the official website, www.xatonline.net.in.
  • Click on the tab ‘XAT 2018- Hall Ticket’
  • Take a print out of the hall ticket to show at the exam center.
  • Enter the registration number, date of birth and security key to download the hall ticket

Admit card contains aspirant’s details such as registration number, name and guardian’ s name. The hard copy of the hall ticket must be shown at the examination center on the da the of examination. Failing to do so will result in termination of aspirant’s attempt. Name and address of the examination center will be given in the hall ticket along with the date of the exam. Aspirants are encouraged to verify the details in the hall ticket for any discrepancy.

Exam Format for XAT 2018

As mentioned already, XAT examination is organizeed offline. The pen and paper based examination will be organizeed in English medium. The exam consists of two papers.

Paper 1: There are 78 questions in this paper. 0.05 mark will be deducted in case aspirants doesn’t attempt more than 13 questions The allotted time for completion of Paper 1 is 170 minutes. Each accurate response is honored 1 mark. There is negative marking of 0.25 marks for each wrong response. All the questions are objective type.

Paper 1 is subsequently divided into 3 parts. The distribution of questions in XAT Exam Format for Paper 1 is given below:

Paper 2: It includes objective type questions as well as subjective. Questions will be asked from general knowledge and essay writing. General Knowledge will have 25 questions of one mark each and an essay of 10 marks. 

XAT Syllabus 2018

XAT 2018 Syllabus includes four main subjects namely, General Knowledge, Quantitative Analysis, Logical Reasoning and Essay writing. The detailed syllabus is given below:

  • Quantitative analysis: Venn diagram, binomial expansion, vectors, trigonometry, probability, clocks, partnership, installment payments, set theory, mode, median, maxima & minima improvmentsion, Combinations & permutations, simple & compound interest, geometric mean, arithmetic mean, geometric improvmentsion, time-speed-distance, arithmetic improvmentsion, number base system, allegation & mixture, percentages, averages, number system, harmonic mean, profit & loss, Ratio & proportion, Geomentry.
  • GK & Awareness: Present affairs, constitution, countries, sports CE, Persons, Inventions & discoveries, Animals, Languages, Buildings, Popular Individualities, Awards & honors, Currencies, Indian & world geography, Indian & world history, democratic policy, present events etc.
  • Essay: Unspecified
  • Logical reasoning: Coding-decoding, matrix arrangements, symbol based problem, family tree problem, puzzles, identifying probably true, statements & assumptions, definitely true, identifying strong & weak arguments, identifying valid inferences, Statements & conclusions, Assertion & reason, visual reasoning, assumption-premise-conclusion, critical reasoning.

Selection Criteria for XAT 2018

Based on the score of XAT examination, aspirants are shortlisted for subsequent rounds. They are Group Discussion and Interview. Further two rounds are held.

Group Discussion

Shortlisted aspirants are divided into groups of 8-15. All groups are need to discuss on a topic usually for 15-20 minutes. The topics are generally concerned to present affairs, politics, social issues such as women’s rights and emancipation, or any other issue concerning advertising, technology, education or business in India.

Individual Interview

Aspirants are need to appear for the individual interview of XAT 2018 if they get shortlisted on the basis of their performance in Group Discussion.

  • The weight of these various components in XLRI is offerd in the table below. It applies to all the programs provideed by XLRI.
  • The panel of jury members set up for this round aim to determine the communication skills, confidence and ability to think under pressure among the aspirants.
  • The questions in the Individual Interview round are centered on aspirants’ background, academics, achievements and motivation behind going for an MBA.
  • The score for the final selection of the aspirants would be calculated by assigning weight to various components such as XAT 2017 score, GD, PI, Essay Writing, Earlier academic records, work experience, and the overall profile of a aspirant.

Result and Counseling Procedure of XAT 2018

XAT 2018 Result is tentatively scheduled to be released in the last week of January 2018. The result released will list the shortlisted aspirants for subsequent rounds.

Counseling shall begin after the result of XAT 2018 is released. Aspirants will be admitted to these institutes on the basis of XAT cut off, scores obtained in the GD/PI round and the final merit list prepared for all the successful aspirants. There is no centralized counseling procedure and aspirants will have to personally apply for each Member Institutes of XAMI with their XAT 2018 score.

Cut Off for the exam varies in accordance with the number of participants, the difficulty level of question paper and the judgment of organizing the committee. To give an inkling about the cut off, we have listed the cut off for XAT 2016 examination.
