XAT Syllabus 2018

XAT 2018 is going to be held on January 7, 2018. The XAT application procedure will start in the last week of August (Tentative). XAT score is accepted by 120 b schools of the country among them XLRIXIMB and SPJIMR are to name a few. Here we will discuss the syllabus of XAT, which will help you to get an idea about how to crack XAT and make it to your dream b school. The eligibility criterion for applying to XAT remains same this year. So for those who are ready to get into a top-ranked B school next year, XAT can be one of the gateways.

XAT 2018 Structure

XAT is organized by XLRI Jamshedpur. XAT has organized in pen paper-based method since its inception and XLRI follows the same exam format since then. XAT is divided into two parts basically- the first part consists of three sections Quantitative Ability, English Language & Logical Reasoning and Judgment Making and General Knowledge sections and the second part consists of Essay Writing, which means it is both subjective and objective. Part one is clearly objective having multiple choice questions.

XAT 2018 Quantitative Ability and Data Interpretation

This section usually has the weight of 30 to 35 questions. In XAT 2015 33 questions were asked from this section. This section includes questions concerned with numbers and it tests aspirants’ ability in number systems, numerology and data skills. The main topics of this section comprise following:

XAT 2018 Syllabus for Verbal Ability and Logical Reasoning

This is the second section in part one of XAT exam. The syllabus comprises following: This section has the weight of 28 marks i.e. around 28 to 30 questions are asked from this section.

Verbal Ability- Verbal Ability or English Language and Comprehension is one of the scoring parts of this exam. Following are the topics on which questions are asked-

XAT 2018 Syllabus for Judgment Making

This is the most important and scoring section of XAT. A number of questions asked generally varies from 20 to 25. This section tests the judgment making the ability of aspirants. Questions in judgment making involve a situation like a case let and aspirant is expected to find the solution and also the reason behind that situation. So there is no particular syllabus can be decided by this section. This section requires the logical understanding of various situations.

XAT 2018 Syllabus for General Knowledge

Syllabus for General knowledge cannot be defined as it is very vast subject. The number of questions asked is 20. These topics comprise- However there are some topics from which questions are asked.

  • National Present Affairs
  • Science and Technology
  • History, Geography, and Polity etc.
  • Economy

XAT 2018 Essay Writing Syllabus

Like General Knowledge, no syllabus can be defined for this section. Essay topics are abstract and aspirants will be given 20 minutes to write on the mentioned topic also there is no word limit mentioned, but an essay of 350-400 words will be more than sufficient. Ques. Is XAT syllabus various from CAT and other management entrance exams?

Ans. First of all, there is no defined syllabus for XAT. However, there are some fixed topics from which questions are asked. But some topics are only asked in XAT (Judgment Making, Essay and General Knowledge) and these topics can’t be defined in a specific syllabus. There are some common topics like QA/DI, VA/LR in both CAT and XAT, in which syllabus could be the same.

Ques. How much XAT syllabus changes every year?

Ans. If there is no defined syllabus, there is no chance of changing it. However, the format can be changed. XAT format has gone via major changes since 2013 but it is following the same since then.
