UPSEE MBA 2018 Reservation Criteria

Aspirants who qualify the online exam will be invited to the counselling session, purely on merit basis. However, aspirants can claim reservation, based on specific categories discussed in detail in this article. It is worthwhile to mention here that the at least cut-off percentage need to qualify UPSEE 2018 is 25% (20% for SC/ST) as per AKTU. Institutes affiliated to AKTU follow reservation policies guided by the university/state acts and regulations. Reservation Guidelines

The State Government guidelines governing the reservation policy of AKTU are listed below:

  • 85% 1st-year seats in all courses at Private Institutes will be filled on merit-basis of UPSEE 2018 qualified aspirants via counselling.
  • 15% of seats available in Private institutions will be filled by the Management Quota/NRI Aspirants according to the government-approved process. Under this category, aspirants with valid CMAT/CAT/MAT scores are given first preference followed by UPSEE MBA 2018 qualified aspirants.
  • Over and above sanctioned intakes, direct admission is available for Kashmiri Migrants as per State Government and AICTE rules. Aspirants want reservation under this category do not have to write UPSEE 2018.
  • 100% 1st-year seats in all courses at Government/Government Aided/ Self-Financed Institutes will be filled on merit-basis of UPSEE 2018 qualified aspirants via counselling.

Reservation Categories

Aspirants have to mention their category according to the list below, in the UPSEE 2018 Application Form. Please note that any request for change of category filled in the Application Form will not be entertained by AKTU under any circumstances. Claim for the reservation must be supported by the relevant certificates as per specific patterns and presented at the time of counselling, failing which reservation claims will be dismissed.

Reservation Criteria for NRI Aspirants

15% of the total seat intake in the management quota of different in states is reserved for NRI aspirants. The preference order for seat allotment is mentioned below:

  1. First preference is given to aspirants who have qualified CMAT/CAT/MAT 2017.
  2. Second preference is given to UPSEE MBA 2018 qualifiers.
  3. Third preference is given to aspirants who satisfy the eligibility criteria for UPSEE MBA 2018. 


  • However, female participants can also claim for additional reservation under any one of sub-categories UPFF/UPAF/UPHC, alongside benefits of UPGL.
  • Aspirants can claim only one type of horizontal reservation out of UPFF/UPAF/UPHC.
  • The benefits of UPGL sub-category is extended to all Female participants.
