SSC (Staff Selection Commission) JE 2018

SSC JE 2018 is a national level exam organizeed every year by the Staff Selection Commission (SSC). It is a gateway for appointing candidates to the post of Junior Engineers, Group ‘B’ Non-Gazetted posts by the Commission.

  • SSC JE 2018 Paper I will be organizeed in January 2018.
  • Paper II is a conventional, subjective exam. The maximum obtainable marks for Paper II are 300 and the period of the exam is also 2 hours.
  • SSC JE 2018 consists of 2 papers- Paper I and Paper II. Paper I is an objective type online exam. It will consist of 200 multiple choice questions to be responded in 2 hours.
  • Participants who qualify the exam have to appear for Paper II.
  • Registration for SSC JE 2018 will begin in the first week of September 2018.
  • SSC JE 2018 Paper I Results will be declared in March 2018.
  • The results will be declared within a month of organizing the exam and counselling session for the qualified candidates will be held from June 2018.
  • Results for Paper II will be declared in June 2018.
  • Candidates who qualify the first stage will be applicable for Paper II which will be held in April 2018.

Eligibility Criteria for SSC JE 2018

The eligibility criterion for SSC JE 2018 is as set up by the Commission. Candidates must ensure that they meet the eligibility requirements before applying for the exam. The general eligibility criteria are given below. All candidates must fulfil these eligibility norms irrespective of their category.


  • An Indian origin person who has migrated from Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Burma, East African countries of Uganda, Kenya, the United Republic of Tanzania, Zambia, Zaire, Malawi, Ethiopia and Vietnam with the intention of settling in India permanently.
  • The aspirant can be a citizen of India, Nepal and Bhutan.
  • A Tibetan refugee who came over to India with the intention of settling permanently in the country before January 1, 1962
  • Apart from Indian citizens, all other candidates should have eligibility certificate alloted by the government.

Age limit:

An aspirant must be between the ages of 18-32 to be applicable for the exam. The age criterion is relaxed by a few years for reserved category and physically challenged candidates.

Educational Qualification:

The aspirant must have a Bachelor’s degree or diploma in the respective stream of engineering from a recognised university.

Application Form of SSC JE 2018

SSC JE 2018 Application Form consists of 2 steps. Application fees can be via both online and offline mode. Personals will need to fill up general details like individual information and educational qualifications. The steps involved in registration and application are given below: The application forms can be filled through the online method only on the official website

Part 1 Registration

  • Participants can then verify the information mentioned in the SSC JE 2018 Application form and can modify it in case of any mismatch/ discrepancy.
  • Log on to the official site of SSC and click on the Examination tab. Select the option of ‘SSC JE 2018 Registration’.
  • Candidates will have to offer general details such as Name, Date of birth, Mailing Address, Category, etc. They must also choose a centre of examination from the drop-down list.
  • After all the above steps are clear, students must print out the confirmation page of Part 1 Registration which will have their unique Registration ID and other details for reference.
  • After verification of details, they must read the terms of the declaration given and click on ‘I Agree’ after reading it properly. No changes or modifications will be permitted at this stage.
  • The Part I Registration page will open.

Part 2 Registration

  • After all the above steps are finished, a confirmation page will be generated. Candidates must take a print out of this page for future correspondence.
  • Select the option of ‘Part II Registration’ after completing the first part. Enter the Registration ID and Date of Birth.
  • The next step is to upload scanned images of Photograph and Signature. Participants must upload their recent, passport-sized, colour photograph and signature as per the desired specifications.
  • Students will first have to pay the requisite application fees. They can choose any 1 out of the 3 options- Pay by Cash, Card or Pay by Net Banking to pay the fees.

Application Fee 

Candidates can pay the application fees for SSC JE 2018 exam by cash, card or net banking. The procedure for rendering fees through each mode is given below:

  • Pay by Cash- On choosing this option, a system generated bank challan of State Bank of India will appear on the screen. Candidates must print out this challan and submit the requisite fees by cash at any discipline of the bank. They must preserve the student copy of the challan as a proof of payment.
  • Pay by Debit/ Credit Card or Net banking- Candidates can pay the fees via Debit/Credit card or via the Net Banking facility. They must enter the need payment details on the bank page and save the receipt of the transaction.

Hall Ticket of SSC JE 2018

SSC JE 2018 Admit cards for Paper I will be available on the official website in the 1st week of January 2018. Participants must log in to their registered accounts to avail the hall ticket. It is an important and compulsory document of the exam and no candidate will be granted entry without it. Admit cards will have details about the candidate such as the roll number and the exam centre allotted along with the address of the venue. No hall ticket for SSC JE 2018 will be dispatched by post.

Exam Center of SSC JE 2018

Candidates will have to choose the city preferred by them as their exam centre and fill the city code on the application form. SSC JE 2018 will be organizeed in 9 centres across the country. The governing body will allow a centre accordingly to candidates and the venue of the centre will be mentioned in the hall ticket. Exam centre once allotted will not be changed under any circumstance.

Exam Format of SSC JE 2018

SSC JE 2018 will consist of 2 papers- Paper I and Paper II. The first stage – Paper I, will be an online, objective type exam while Paper II will be a conventional subjective i.e. offline exam.

  • Aspirants who qualify for the first stage will be applicable for SSC JE 2018 Paper II.
  • Negative marking will be eligible for this exam.
  • The total obtainable marks in Paper 1 are 200 and for Paper 2 are 300.
  • Participants will need to choose from 3 subjects- Civil, Mechanical and Electrical for both Paper I and Paper II.
  • Paper 2 includes 3 sections out of which aspirant must attempt one, the period of the exam is 2 hours.
  • Paper 1 includes 3 sections- General Intelligence and Reasoning, General Awareness and General Engineering and the period of the exam is 2 hours.

Syllabus of SSC JE 2018

SSC JE 2018 syllabus will be of graduation or diploma level of engineering. The syllabus of various sections is given below.

General Intelligence and Reasoning  

This section will assess the participant’s ability to response questions based on Data Interpretation, Analogy, Blood relations, Syllogisms, Series and sequences, Logical reasoning, etc.

General Awareness  

This section aims to determine the General Awareness of the candidate. It includes of present affairs as well as economics and business affairs of the country, schemes launched by Government, Indian Polity, Geography, History, Sports, Science and Technology, etc.

General Engineering   

This section will evaluate the student’s knowledge in the respective field of engineering. Candidates will have to choose from 3 streams- Civil, Engineering and Mechanical and response questions based on the topics. Paper II will also test the engineering knowledge of aspirants and the detailed syllabus is given in the SSC brochure.

Result of SSC JE 2018

SSC JE 2018 Result for Paper I will be declared in March 2018. Results for both papers will be declared by SSC on their official website in the form of a rank list. To check the results, participants can follow the steps given below: Aspirants who complete the cutoff score will qualify the first stage and will be able to appear for Paper II. SSC JE 2018 Result for Paper II will be released in June 2018.

  • A PDF file will appear on the screen containing the scores of all participants in order of ranks secured by them.
  • Search for the link of ‘SSC JE 2018 Result’ and click on it.
  • Log on to the official SSC website.
  • Search for your roll number to know your result.

 Response Key of SSC JE 2018

SSC will publish the response key of JE exam on its official website. Candidates can also check unofficial response key published by some coaching institutes that will be made available soon after the exam. SSC JE response key will help candidates to analyze their performances in the exam. The commission will publish JE response key around March 2018. The organizing body will announce the response key for objective type paper i.e. Paper I for all sets.

Selection Procedure of SSC JE 2018

SSC JE 2018 is organizeed for applicable candidates for different Junior Engineer posts and vacancies. SSC JE Appointment procedure will take place after the declaration of the results of Paper II. Candidates will be short-listed on the basis of their scores obtained in both the Paper I and Paper II.

Participants who successfully qualify the SSC JE 2018 will be applicable for participating in SSC JE 2018 Appointment procedure and shall be on probation for a duration of 2 years. During the duration of probation, candidates will undergo such training or pass such examinations as prescribed by the Controlling Authority.
