SSC CGL Exam Pattern 2019

SSC CGL 2019 Exam Format has not witnessed any major change over the years. SSC CGL includes four tiers wherein Tier 1 and 2 are mandatory for all the posts.

SSC or Staff Selection Commission defines SSC CGL Syllabus for various tiers. The following article informs the candidates about the exam mode, type of questions, medium of the exam, marking scheme of CGL exam.  

Mentioned below are some quick facts about SSC CGL Exam Format 2019.

  • Paper 4 is only for the post of ‘Assistant Audit Officer’. 
  • SSC CGL Paper 3 is mandatory only for the post of ‘Statistical Investigator Gr. II’ & ‘Compiler’.
  • Tier IV is just organized to test the proficiency in computer knowledge.
  • Period of Tier 1 is 60 minutes, Tier 2 is 2 hours for each paper and for Tier 3 is 60 minutes.
  • Paper 1& 2 is mandatory for all the posts.
  • Tier III is a descriptive text to be organized in pen and paper mode.
  • Tier I and Tier II of CGL exam will be organized in online mode.
  • As for SSC CGL Marking Scheme, for Tier 1, 3 and 4, 0.50 marks are deducted for each wrong response. For Tier 2, 0.25 marks are deducted for each inaccurate response.

SSC CGL 2019 Exam Format in Detail

As per the latest notifications by SSC, SSC CGL exam 2019 will be organized in four levels, as mentioned below.

SSC CGL Exam Format 2019 – Tier 1

SSC CGL Tier I is compulsory for all the posts and its marks are added for further proceedings as well. It is an objective exam comprising 200 questions to be finished in 75 minutes.

Aspirants who complete SSC CGL cut off for Tier-1 are applicable to appear for Tier II exam. All the important details for SSC CGL Tier-1 exam have been tabulated below.

The exam includes negative marking as well. 50 marks will be deducted from the total marks earned by aspirants for every inaccurate response.

SSC CGL 2019 Exam Format - Tier 2

SSC CGL exam format 2019 Tier II includes two papers, both of which are organized on the same day. One is, Quantitative Aptitude and the second one is English.

Tier 2 exam of SSC CGL is comparatively tough as compared to Tier 1 exam. It is also an objective exam of 2 hours period comprising 800 marks.

Tier 4 is just organized to test the proficiency in computer knowledge. It is only qualifying in nature.

Marking Scheme for SSC CGL 2019

SSC CGL 2019 consists of both online and offline based tests. No individual interviews will be organized in SSC CGL from 2016. Tier 1, 2 and 4 are the online computer based exam, Tier 3 is descriptively written pen and paper examination.

SSC CGL 2019 Exam Format for Tier IV

Tier IV of SSC CGL 2019 exam is qualifying in nature.

Compilation of Final Merit for SSC CGL 2019

  • Aspirants required to qualify all the tiers i.e. Tier-I, Tier-II and Tier-III of SSC CGL 2019 separately.
  • There will be no sectional cut-off.
  • The merit will be prepared on overall performance in Tier-I, Tier-II, and Tier-III.

Section Wise Tips to Prepare for SSC CGL 2019

For General Intelligence & Reasoning:

  • This section is very scoring and less time consuming so aspirants required to focus more on this section.
  • Make General Intelligence & Reasoning your main weapon in the exam.

For the English Language:

  • This part is easy to score & less time-consuming.
  • In this section, aspirants required to focus more on some scoring topics like One Word Substitution, Mistakes, Miss Spelt Words, Comprehension and Cloze Test.

For Quantitative Aptitude:

  • As this part takes more time to solve the problems, aspirants are advised to save time from Reasoning, English & General Awareness.
  • Aspirants required to save time in the written exam to solve this section.
  • Only after practicing more & more Questions, the habit of recognizing nature of question by mere seeing it can come.

For General Awareness:

  • Aspirants can focus more study of General Science.
  • Aspirants can cover syllabus according to their strength as questions are to ask from History, Present Affairs, Geography, Polity, Economy.
  • Focus on Questions asked in Earlier Year Papers.
