NTSE Exam Pattern 2019

The state education boards and NCERT prescribe NTSE Exam Format on their official websites. NTSE 2019 Exam Format will help aspirants in preparing for the national level exam. National Talent Search Examination or NTSE 2019 is a two-tier exam where stage 1 is organized by the state boards and stage 2 is organized at the national level by NCERT.

NTSE is conducted in offline or pen paper-based mode. Stage 1 is organized at State/UT level by the related State/UT authorities. Every accurate response will fetch 1 mark while there is no negative marking for wrong attempts. Stage 1 examination can be attempted in either Hindi or English language. The total time to response the paper is 90 minutes. The question paper consists of two parts; Part 1 and 2.

However, Stage 2 paper is divided into two parts namely Mental Ability Test (MAT) and Scholastic Aptitude Test (SAT) having 100 questions each and there is no negative marking in this stage as well. Only those who complete stage-1 will be shortlisted for the stage-2 exam.

NTSE 2019 Exam Format Stage-I

Stage-I is organized at State/UT level by the related State/UT authorities. Aspirants have to select 1 language from English or Hindi to solve the paper. The paper is divided into two parts: Each accurate response is honored 1 mark and there is no negative marking at this stage.

Part 1 – Mental Ability Test (MAT): This part contains logical and analytical reasoning based questions. This section tests the aspirant’s reasoning, ability to think, evaluate, ability to discriminate and visualize. A total of 50 questions is to be the response under this section.

Part 2 – Scholastic Aptitude Test (SAT): This part consists of 150 questions from Science, Mathematics, Social Science and English Language. This section judges the student’s reading abilities, interpretation, evaluation and general awareness of the subjects.

NTSE 2019 Exam Format Stage-II

Stage-II is organized at National Level, where shortlisted students from Stage-I (State-level) exam appear to compete for the scholarship. The paper is divided into two parts – MAT and SAT, like that in Stage-I. There will be 100 questions in both MAT and SAT (Science-40, Maths-20, Social science-40).

The period of both the exams is 2 hours or 120 minutes. Only aspirants qualifying in both the papers separately will be considered for merit. In NTSE Stage 2 exam, there is no negative marking. Selection of the awardee will be made on the basis of total marks scored in MAT and SAT-based on merit.

Syllabus for NTSE 2019

NTSE Syllabus enables aspirants to cautiously plan and prepare for the exam. NTSE syllabus 2019 would be based on the syllabus of class X prescribed by NCERT. Aspirants should focus on all the units while preparing for NTS Examination.

NTSE 2019 Exam Day Instructions

Aspirants are advised to follow these important instructions alongside do’s and don’ts at NTSE Exam Day:

  • Aspirants, who access more than 15 minutes after the scheduled test time, may not be allowed to take the test.
  • Any type of gadget, watch and calculators are not allowed inside the exam center.
  • Aspirants need to bring hall ticket, photo identity, and ball pen to the exam center.
  • Aspirants should access the test center 45 minutes before the test commences.
