NIFT Exam Pattern 2018

National Institute of Fashion Technology (NIFT) is a premier institute of national level for studying Under Graduate and Post Graduate courses in fashion technology. NIFT organizes a national level exam for admissions into various branches of fashion concerned Under Graduate and Post Graduate courses across different NIFTs in the country.

NIFT 2018 is scheduled for the second week of February 2018. The exam would be organized to enroll aspirants in B.F.Tech, M.F.Tech, and M.F.M, B.des and M.des courses based on their performance in NIFT 2018 exam.

NIFT exam is organized in offline method and involves five stages. Aspirants have to qualify each stage of the examination in order to be selected for admission in the course of his/her choice. The exam for B.F.Tech, M.F.Tech, and M.F.M, courses is 3 hours (180 Minutes) period whereas for B.des and M.des course the exam is of 2 hours period (120 Minutes).

The admissions and counseling would be done on the basis of merit list prepared after the releasement of exam results and cut-offs. The final judgment in regards to seat allocations would be of NIFT 2018 organizing authority.

NIFT 2018 Exam Format Highlights

NIFT 2018 tests the aspirant’s ability in areas like aptitude, knowledge in the field of fashion technology, creative ability, situation analysis etc. The exam is divided into four sections namely,

  • Creative Ability Test (CAT)
  • Situation Test
  • General Ability Test (GAT)
  • Group discussion/Individual Interview

CAT and GAT would be organized in an offline method that is pen-paper mode. GAT exam would be organized for B.Des and M.Des courses and would be of 120 minutes. The questions need to be responded in English language only. For B.F.Tech, M.F.Tech, and M.F.MT GAT would be of 3 hours duration. Here we are providing details of the stages involved in NIFT exam. Aspirants go via 4 stages to seek admission to their desired courses, details of each stage have been given below:

Creative Ability Test

The first step of NIFT 2018 exam will be to appear in Creative Ability Test. CAT, is organized to test the aspirant’s skill in sketching, inventiveness, and adeptness to use of colors. Apart, from this observation skills, concept development and design skills, and intuitive abilities are also tested via this exam.

General Ability Test

General Ability Test (GAT) is organized to test participant’s skill and knowledge in quantitative aptitude, communication ability, English Comprehension, analytical ability, GK, and Present Affairs. The test is of 100 marks and the time allotted is 120 minutes.

Situation Test     

Situation test is designed to evaluate and test aspirants for material handling, and innovative ability as per given situation and material offered. Period of the test is 3 hours and a total of 100 marks are assigned to it. 

Interview/Group discussions

The Interview/GD rounds would be held to test candidate’s ability to communicate and comprehend things. The test also checks aspirant’s individuality traits and abilities to convey his/her thoughts via expression.

NIFT 2018 Exam Syllabus

Quantitative Ability, they assess the quantitative ability of aspirants. The major areas of testing in this section are Addition, Multiplication, Division, Fractions, Percentage, Rate of Interest, Work and Task, Ratio and Proportion and Distance.

Communicative Ability section, the aspirants are tested for their language skills and its use in the day-to-day communication in English. This sub-section comprises questions from Synonyms, Antonyms, Words with corresponding meanings, Singular, Plural, One-word Substitutes, Idioms and Phrases, Spelling correction etc.

In English Comprehension section, an aspirant is tested on their reading abilities and comprehending abilities of a given situation in the given unseen passage. This section tests the Basic English language skills via the questions based on the passage.

NIFT syllabus suggests that Analytical Ability sub-section is designed to test the aspirant’s capacity for an ability of inference and logic from the given information. This section picks up questions from the areas of logical reasoning where aspirants are supposed to draw logical conclusions from the analytical reasoning questions.

General Knowledge and Present Affairs sub-section, as per NIFT 2017 syllabus is designed to test the aspirant’s general awareness and present affairs. The questions in this section are taken up from the present affairs sections and general knowledge.

GAT for B. F. F. MFM, M. Des. and M. Des., however, there is a slight change. Sections involved in GAT are Tech. has majorly same sub-sections like GAT for B. Des. Tech. and M.

  4. General Knowledge and Present Affairs
  5. Case Study

The common sub-sections have a similar syllabus as per NIFT 2018 syllabus discussed above, while the Case Study sub-section is a new addition to this GAT. The Case Study is a test which is based on a situation of an industry environment which the aspirant has to analyze and offer solutions to the questions. This test is designed especially to test the managerial skills of the aspirant.

In addition to the generic questions from the different sub-sections, the M. Tech. F. has some questions from the Engineering field also.
