KVPY Exam Pattern 2019

Kishore Vaigyanik Protsahan Yojana or KVPY 2019 is an objective exam scheduled to take place in November 2019. While there is no specified or official syllabus, students are tested as per their respective class/college syllabus. Students can take the test in both English and Hindi. It is a scholarship program instituted by the Department of Science and Technology, Government of India.

KVPY 2019 exam obligatory to be finished in 3 hours and the number of questions varies in each section and for every stream. The aspirants have to attempt all the questions in Part I and Part II for SA Stream. Those applying for SB/SX stream have to attempt any three sections in Part I and any two sections in Part II.

The exam is administered by the Indian Institute of Science (IISc), Bangalore to identify and nurture talent and aptitude for research in the field of Science so as to ensure the growth of the best scientific minds for research and development in the country. It provides scholarship grants and contingency grants up to the pre-Ph.D. level.

KVPY Exam Format 2019: Details

KVPY 2019 is a 3-hour objective exam. The medium of the exam is English and Hindi. Find below in-detail KVPY Exam Format as per the various streams.

SA Stream

KVPY exam will test students on their scientific aptitude and their analytical ability. Students should thoroughly know their present science curriculum (Class 10) well.

  • KVPY SA stream exam will have 2 Parts – Part I and Part II
  • Each question in Part I will be of 1 mark
  • Each question of Part II will be of 2 marks
  • Part II will have 20 questions, 5 each of P.C.M.B
  • Part I will have 60 questions; 15 questions each of Physics, Chemistry, Math and Biology (P.C.M.B)
  • All questions in both parts obligatory to be attempted

SB/SX Stream

Students can expect questions from their Class XII syllabus.

  • Students will have to attempt question from only 3 subjects of their choice (Questions from only 60 out of 80 questions).
  • The KVPY SB/SX stream will have two parts (Part I & II).
  • Part II will award students with 2 marks for every right response.
  • Students will have to attempt questions from only 2 subjects (20 questions).
  • Part I will have 80 questions (20 each of Physics, Chemistry, Biology, and Maths).
  • Part II will have 40 questions (10 each of Physics, Chemistry, Biology, and Math).
  • Every right response in Part I give students 1 mark.
  • Students will not be penalized for leaving a response.

Marking Scheme for KVPY 2019

KVPY Marking Scheme is various for both the streams and the same has been mentioned below.

SA Stream Marking Scheme

Total questions in SA stream paper will be 80. Every right response in Part I will be honored 1 mark while every wrong response will attract a penalty of 0.25 marks. Part I will have 60 questions (15 questions each from Physics, Chemistry, Biology, and Math).

Part II will have 20 questions (5 questions each from Physics, Chemistry, Biology, and Math). Every right response will award 2 marks and 0.5 marks will be deducted for every wrong response. All questions have to be responses.

Total marks issued - 100

SB/SX Stream Marking Scheme

Part I will have 80 questions (20 questions each from Physics, Chemistry, Biology, and Math). A right response will award 1 mark to the students while every wrong response will attract a penalty of 0.25 marks. Only questions from 3 out of the 4 subjects are to be responseed.

Part II will have 40 questions (10 questions each from Physics, Chemistry, Biology, and Math). Students will have to attempt questions from any 2 subjects. 2 marks will be honored for every accurate response while there will be a deduction of 0.5 marks for every wrong response in Part II.

The SA stream exam paper will include questions from Class X and Class XI CBSE curriculum. Students should have their basics strong. Students will be assessed on their fundamentals, which would comprise basic topics from Class X and core topics from Class XI.

KVPY 2019 Exam Preparation Tips

KVPY exam does not include a defined KVPY Syllabus.  It follows Class 11th/ 12th and first year’s Basic Science syllabus. Following are some tips that aspirants must follow. To survive these competition aspirants must prepare in a planned attitude.

  • Work on weakness and strength: Aspirants are advised to explore their weakness and strength it will help them to figure out where to put necessary efforts and which areas require more polishing.
  • Exercise Sample papers: This is the best way to prepare for any examination. Practicing the earlier year sample papers help the aspirant to improve his/her time management skill and also give the idea about the important and scoring topics.
  • Choose right study material: Choosing accurate study material is very important aspirants.
  • Be confident and positive: Confidence and positivity are the keys to success. Aspirants must stay confident about them and should remain positive via the course of time and focus on the areas/topics that they are good at rather than focusing on their weakness.
