IIT JAM Exam Pattern 2019 Exam Format

IIT JAM 2019 is an online computer based test organized for aspirants who have finished their Bachelor's degree in engineering and are ready to pursue their Master's degree from the prestigious IITs in India. IIT JAM 2019 is expected to be held on February 2019 and official dates are not released yet.

As per IIT JAM Exam Format, a total of 60 questions are asked and the paper is divided into 3 sections. Section A will be of Multiple Choice Questions (MCQ) type, Section B of Multiple Select Questions (MSQ) type and Section C of Numerical Response Type (NAT) questions. JAM 2019 includes two sessions, each of which will be of 3 hours and have various sets of JAM papers.

The first session will take place between 9:00 am to 12:00 pm while the second session will take place between 2:00 pm to 5:00 pm. Aspirants obligatory to appear for any one of the seven test papers or they can appear for one test paper from each session and thus can appear for two in total. Session 1 will have Biotechnology (BT), Chemistry (CY), Geology (GG) and Mathematical Statistics (MS) whereas the second session will have Biological Sciences (BL), Mathematics (MA) and Physics (PH) test papers.

IIT JAM 2019 Exam Format 2019: Details

IIT JAM 2019 exam is organized into two sessions. The first session of JAM 2019 will begin at 9:00 and last for 3 hours while the second session will begin at 2:00 pm.

Each session of JAM is reserved for various sets of test papers. There are 7 test papers distributed between these two sessions.

  • Aspirants will get 2 hours to clear the test.

Exam Format for Section A

  • Each question will contain four optional responses, aspirants must choose the right response only.
  • Each question will carry one or two marks.
  • Section A will have total30 MCQ (Multiple Choice Questions).
  • For each right response aspirant will be given 1 or 2 marks and for each wrong response, 1/3 or 2/3 mark will be deducted.
  • Aspirants can response by clicking the given choices.

Exam Format for Section B

  • This section will contain total 10 MSQ (Multiple Select Questions).
  • Aspirants will get full marks if all the accurate responses are selected.

  • Each question will carry two marks.
  • Each question will contain four given choices out of which more than one choice can be accurate.

Exam Format for Section C:

  • There will be no negative marking.

Important Instructions for IIT JAM 2019

There are certain instructions and guidelines regarding IIT JAM 2019 that must be followed by aspirants. The same have been mentioned below.

  • Aspirants are also not allowed to bring Charts, sheets or tables inside the examination hall. Scribble pads will be made available to all aspirants for rough work
  • Any aspirants establish using, or in possession of any unauthorized material will be treated as unfair means and will lead to cancellation of his/her candidature as well as disqualification from appearing in JAM in future.
  • Anyone who reports late to the examination center will not be allowed to appear for the JAM 2019 Exam.
  • Calculators, mobiles phones or any type of electronic devices are not allowed once you enter the examination hall. IIT JAM offers you an inbuilt online calculator on your system.
  • All aspirants will be allowed to enter the examination hall 35 minutes prior to the start of the exam and will be allowed to leave once the exam is finished.
