IIM (Indian Institute of Management) Calcutta Admission Criteria 2018

IIM Calcutta (IIM-C) has announced the admission criteria for admission to Post-Graduate Program in Management (PGP-PGDM) for 2018 batch. The admission criteria are based on CAT Scores.

  • The overall CAT cut off the need for IIM Calcutta Admission Criteria by a general category student is 90 percentile.
  • Selection of aspirants for admission is based on their performance in CAT 2017 and selection process of the institute (Individual Interview (PI) & Written Ability Test (WAT)).
  • Aspirants are shortlisted for calculation of composite scores after they qualify CAT Cut Off.

IIM Calcutta provides a 2-year PGP-PGDM program which is a full-time residential course. The course structure consists of the core curriculum, a summer internship and elective courses (optional). 


Eligibility for PGP-PGDM in IIM Calcutta

IIM Calcutta Admission Criteria for admission to PGP-PGDM Course is given below-

  • An aspirant should have finished bachelor’s degree (in any stream) with minimum 50% marks.
  • The partial fulfilment of at least eligibility criteria may result in cancellation of candidature as it is verified at different stages of IIM Calcutta selection procedure.
  • For the university/institute which doesn’t have any scheme for converting CGPA into equivalent marks then it can be obtained by multiplying the maximum CGPA with 100.
  • In case, an aspirant is honoured grades or CGPA instead of marks, the conversion of grades and CGPA to percentage of marks would be based on the process certified by the university/ institution from where the bachelor’s degree has been obtained.
  • 5%-mark relaxation is given to the aspirants belonging to reserved category (SC/ST/PwD).

IIM Calcutta Admission Criteria for Shortlisting and Final Selection for 2018-2020

Shortlisting for Individual Interview (PI)

Aspirants will be shortlisted on the basis of CAT 2017 score, past academic performance (class 10, 12 and graduation) and prior work experience.

Stage 1: Eligibility for PI

IIM Calcutta shortlists aspirants for PI on the basis of CAT Scores. The table given below represents CAT Cut Off for admission in 2018-20 academic session.

Aspirants completing CAT cut off will only be considered for calculation of their composite scores. The shortlisting of aspirants for PI is done on the basis of a composite score.

Stage 2: Calculation of Composite Scores for Shortlisting for PI

The Composite Score is calculated on the basis of CAT 2017 score, Class 10 and Class 12 aggregate percentages and Gender Diversity Factor. The mode of allotting points for class 10 and 12 percentages based on aggregate scores is mentioned below:

The composite cut-off score is used for short-listing the aspirants for the PI stage in each category. The number of aspirants shortlisted for the PI stage would be the discretion of the institute and would depend on the number of seats available for academic batch 2018-20.

What is Gender Diversity Factor?

  • The weightage of these factors varies depending on the institute.
  • The Academic Diversity Factor ensures diversity in academic streams and the Gender Diversity factor aims at a proper ratio of males to females, by awarding a certain percentage of marks to the female aspirants.
  • The Gender Diversity Factor is further divided into- Academic and Gender.
  • Gender diversity component is eligible only for the pre-PI rank list for interview calls, and will not be eligible for phase 2 of the admissions procedure.

WAT (Written Ability Test) and Individual Interview (PI)

Aspirants based on their composite score will be called for the PI stage of the selection procedure that would include an Individual Interview (PI) and a Written Ability Test (WAT).

  • IIM Calcutta Admission Criteria uses a 2-phase selection procedure- Completing CAT Cut Off; Written Ability Test (WAT) and Individual Interview (PI). 
  • Aspirants shortlisted for the PI procedure will have to take WAT on a topic offered by IIM Calcutta.
  • Period of WAT will be of about 30 minutes.
  • WAT and PI will be organizeed on the same day.
  • The topics for WAT will generally reflect present socio-political, economic and business affairs, though other topics such as sports and those that require more creative thinking may also be comprised.
  • During the individual interview, the panel will evaluate each aspirant's performance on academic background, quality of work experience and other individual traits.

  • Only managerial work experience after graduation will be considered.
  • Training/Project work/work done as an integral part of the curricular requirement will not be considered.

The final selection list of CAT will be based on merit in each category; at least qualification on the above-mentioned criteria would not automatically qualify the aspirant for admission into IIM Calcutta.
