The IAS Prelims Exam Format is based on the Multiple-Choice Questions (MCQ) pattern with 2 compulsory papers of 200 marks each. Civil Services examination is organizeed to appoint aspirants for 19 highly reputable Group A & 5 Group B civil service posts.

UPSC has set certain IAS Prelims Eligibility criteria that the aspirants appearing for the examination are obliged to fulfil. The IAS Prelims Eligibility for 2018 comprises the academic qualification, age limit, number of attempts, physical standards, and citizenship criteria. The aspirants wishing to apply for the Civil services Examination have to first apply for IAS Prelims. The IAS Prelims 2018 Application Form will be available from the last week of April 2018. The procedure of filling the IAS Prelims Application Form is summarized below:
Step 1 Registration for Part I: Enter the details Name, Gender, Category, Nationality and other individual details.
Step 2 Payment of Application: Select the payment mode.
Step 3 Registration for Part II: Clear the other details of the IAS Application form.
Step 4 Uploading the Images: Upload the photograph & signature in accordance with the given specifications. With this, the IAS Prelims Application Form is finished. The participants can finally submit the application form & note the Reg ID.
The aspirants should remit a fee of INR 100 Rupees One Hundred only. There is an exception for the SC/ST/ Female/Physically Handicapped aspirants and they required not pay the fee.
The aspirants can remit the fee either by depositing the money in any discipline of SBI by cash, or by using net banking facility of State Bank of India/State Bank of Bikaner & Jaipur/State Bank of Hyderabad/State Bank of Mysore/ State Bank of Patiala/State Bank of Travancore or by using any Visa/Master Credit/ Debit Card.
UPSC will issue the IAS Prelims 2018 Hall Ticket 3 weeks before the commencement of the IAS Prelims 2018. The IAS Prelims Hall Ticket will be alloted to those participants who are considered applicable for the IAS Prelims 2018 based on the application form they have submitted.
The IAS Prelims 2018 Hall Ticket will be available online on the official website of UPSC (upsc.gov.in). The examination authority will not send the IAS Prelims 2018 e-admission certificate by post.
If the participants do not receive the hall ticket 3 weeks before the Examination, they should immediately contact the Commission at the Facilitation Counter situated in the Commission’s Office either in person. Otherwise, they can address the same issue over the phone at the following numbers:
If the aspirant does not receive any answer even after addressing the issue, then the aspirant will be solely responsible for the non-receipt of the IAS Prelims 2018 Hall Ticket.
Note: Receipt of hall ticket does ensure their eligibility for the entire civil service examination as the clear verification of eligibility is organizeed by the commission only after the aspirant has qualified for the IAS Mains 2018.

The participants have to fill the IAS Prelims 2018 Exam Center choice while filling the part II of the IAS Prelims Application Form. It is recommended that the participants fill the application form as early as possible to get the centre of their choice because once the centre outnumbers the number of aspirants the centre option freezes and the participants cannot select the centre anymore. There is a total of 72 IAS Prelims 2018 Exam centres. The availability of the exam centres is based on the first cum first Allot basis. There are various sets of exam centres for both IAS Prelims & IAS Mains.

Note: General Studies Paper (Paper II) is a qualifying paper. The at least qualifying marks are 33%.

The IAS Prelims Result is usually released one month after the examination has been organizeed. The aspirants have to reach their IAS Prelims Result from the official website of UPSC. Hence the IAS Prelims 2018 Result will be declared by the month of September. The aspirants have to download the pdf and check for their roll no to obtain their scores. The tentative date of IAS Prelims 2017 is June 3, 2018.
The IAS Examination is a 3 staged examination, the first stage being the IAS Prelims. The aspirants qualifying the IAS Prelims have to undergo the IAS Examination Selection procedure summarized below;
The total marks of Paper I of IAS Prelims along with the at least qualifying marks of 33 % in case of Paper II is considered for shortlisting aspirants for the IAS Main.
The IAS Main Examination consists of two qualifying papers and 7 papers that are to be counted for merit.
The interview or individuality test is the ultimate stage of the Civil Service examination. The interview is a rigorous selection procedure where the aspirants are individually assessed on multiple aspects that need to become an ideal civil servant.
