How to preparing choos right MBA College?

Last Updated - April 26 2018

CAT results have been out since January and most of the IIMs now are in the final stage of admission procedure. CAT qualified aspirants are now applying to different B-schools including IIMs based on their CAT 2017 score. They have already announced the notification regarding the selection criteria for admission.

With soaring expectations, candidates are eagerly waiting for a call from their dream institute, however, at the same time, some are also confused with the task to choose the right institute for themselves.

With more than 500 business schools all over the country, which provide admission to MBA program based on CAT score, it is essential for aspirants to consider few parameters for the selection of B-schools. To help students understand, we have listed few parameters based on which aspirants can make a right judgment.

  1. Alumni Network

Alumni network of the institutes is one of the most important pillars while evaluation of the institute. Alumni hold a special connection with the institute since they have graduated from there. Many such alumni are likely to have a wealth of experience and skills to share with present students via seminars and newsletters. In some cases, they could even support in work placements.

  1. Innovation Centre

The challenges students face today are becoming more complex and academic institutions are recognizing the power of mixing traditional academic lines with new innovative methods and techniques. This recognition leads to the creation of innovation centers that help students learn and innovate creative fields like computer science, math, design, engineering with management. This leads to students having better understanding and skills in the professional jobs.

  1. Location

Location is not a direct indicator when it comes to defining the quality of the institute. However, aspirants should compare the institute’s location and other parameters as mutual. Many IIMs attract faculty and industry even to a relatively less famous location. Same is not true for institutes with low brand value.

  1. Placements

Aspirants should check the career opportunities offered by an institute in the short- and long-term, the speed of growth one can get via the institute, the variety of roles that one can get into, etc. Money should not be the driving factor to get into the top institute, but a good placement record means recognition among top industries and good teaching curriculum.

While some schools may not announce any placement data, some list only the names of companies that visit the campus for appointment without revealing other info (like salary and job profiles provided). Many institutes don’t publicize the number of students who do not secure jobs. Therefore, aspirants must cautiously research this while trying to understand the placements at b-schools.

  1. The cut-off in the entrance test

It is the students who make an institute better and increase its brand value, in return, the institute helps students to move ahead faster in their career. Due to this reason, most of the IIMs keep their CAT percentile cut off quite high to get quality of students.  It is important to note that the quality of students straight impacts the quality of learning. 1. Other factors

The quality of Faculty and infrastructure will also play an important factor while evaluation of the institute. The institute with good infrastructure will offer a better atmosphere for study and recreational purposes. The quality of faculty in teaching staff will lead to student grasping the subject more readily and a better understanding.
