Exam Format for GATE 2018

GATE Exam Format is defined paper wise depending upon aspirants’ branch. Indian Institute of Technology, Guwahati will organize GATE 2018. The syllabus is various for each discipline. The exam is held in online method (Computer Based Test).

There are some important points of GATE Exam Format.

  • The question paper includes total 65 questions.
  • Students have to attempt all the questions in the period of three hours.
  • There is two type of questions in GATE i.e. Multiple Choice type (MCQ) and Numerical Response Type (NAT).
  • GATE consists 3 sections namely General Aptitude, Engineering Mathematics and specific subject of the paper
  • Questions will be asked in a random order and one has to select the response (for MCQ type) and enter the response for numerical response type question using a mouse on a virtual keyboard.
  • The maximum number of questions in GATE 2018 are from the core subject.
  • There is no negative marking for NAT questions but it is eligible for MCQs.  For 1 mark MCQs, 1/3 marks will be deducted for every wrong response. Likewise, for 2 marks MCQs, 2/3 marks will be deducted.
