Exam Pattern of CLAT 2019

CLAT Exam Format 2019 will be decided by NLUs, the exam organizing authority for CLAT. Aspirants appearing for CLAT 2019 are advised to check latest CLAT Exam Format 2019 to stay updated. CLAT 2019 is an online exam organizeed to evaluate an aspirant’s skills of Logical Reasoning, English, General Knowledge, Legal Aptitude and Mathematics. The paper format for Under Graduate and Post Graduate courses is entirely different. The exam will be organizeed in English language only. CLAT 2019 is a national-level law entrance exam organizeed by 19 National Law Universities for admission to Bachelor and Master Degree Programs in Law. CLAT 2019 is scheduled to be held in May 2019. Exam Format in Detail of CLAT 2019

There are 5 sections in CLAT Exam Format 2019 which test aspirants’ knowledge of the following sections:

Exam Format for LLM of CLAT 2019 

CLAT 2019 is also organizeed for Post Graduate courses i.e. LLM admission in NLUs. The exam format is similar that of LLB course with MCQs but with fewer questions and various subjects. Important Points regarding CLAT Exam Format 2019

  • Each accurate response will be given 1 mark, while for each inaccurate answer, there is negative marking of 0.25 mark. For questions that are not attempted, no marks or zero marks will be given.
  • The total time period for the exam is 2 hours and there is no time limit to attempt any section. So, aspirants can take up any question anytime from any of the 4 sections and solve rest of the questions later.
  • All questions will be multiple choice type and aspirants have to choose 1 accurate response out of the 4 response options available.

Aspirants should also note that the questions in CLAT question paper are randomly selected from a question bank. Thus, all the aspirants get various sets of question paper. NLUs make sure that CLAT question paper sets are of comparable difficulty level and include all types of questions.

Syllabus of CLAT 2019

There is no prescribed syllabus as such for CLAT 2019 by NLUs. The questions for Under Graduate law courses are asked from English and Reading Comprehension, General Knowledge and Present Affairs, Mathematics of up to 10th class, Legal Aptitude and Logical Reasoning sections.

For Post Graduate courses, the questions are asked from Constitutional Law, Jurisprudence and other law subjects such as Contract, Torts, Criminal Law, International Law, Environment Law and Human Rights topics.

  • Constitutional Law consists different rules, exercises, and doctrines that govern the functioning of a modern state and other political communities. Aspirants will be asked questions based on concepts that they have studied in their graduation.
  • The contract can be referred to as a piece of legal document which is a mutual agreement made by two or more parties, enforceable by law. Important judgements made by Supreme Court and High Court in relation to modern day commercial activities form a very crucial part of this subject.
  • The Tort Law is comparatively a recent common law development in India based on codifying statutes including statutes concerned with damages. Some of the crucial tortious obligations like Negligence, Nuisance and Defamation should be revised in detail.
  • Criminal Law, also known as Penal Law is aimed at regulation of Social code of organizing and debarkation of any antisocial activity that poses a threat to the safety, property, health and moral welfare of citizens. Significant topics on principles of criminal liability and men's rea (“guilty mind” in Criminal Law) should be given special attention.
  • Jurisprudence, known as the “philosophy of law” is classified into three disciplines - analytical, sociological, and theoretical. The questions in this section will be set on the basis of the syllabus prescribed in the graduation degree course.

Important Instructions of CLAT 2019

Aspirants must abide by certain rules for CLAT 2019 exam and follow a set of instructions and the same have been mentioned below.

  • The test will be organizeed in a single slot from 10.00 am and aspirants’ exam centre will be mentioned on CLAT Hall Ticket 2019 which is the most important document for the exam.
  • It is a computer-based test, so aspirants must have a basic familiarity with computers, keyboard and mouse operation.
  • Aspirants are not allowed to bring any other individual belongings such as mobiles and they should bring a pen for the purpose of rough work. Blank sheets will be offered. Calculators and log tables are not allowed as well.
  • The timings will also be mentioned on CLAT Hall Ticket and aspirants are advised to access the exam centre an hour before the exam time.
