Exam Pattern for AILET 2019

AILET 2019 is organized by National Law University (NLU), Delhi every year. Aspirants want admission to the undergraduate and postgraduate programs in NLU Delhi to have to appear for this law entrance exam. The exam is organized in the offline method.

Separate exams are organized for each of the three programs. There is no prescribed syllabus for AILET but is similar to CLAT. The questions are objective in nature and the exam period for the three programs is various and the same has been mentioned below in the article.

Candidates take the exam to get one of the 80 seats in the B.A LL.B program, 20 seats in LLM and 10 seats for Ph.D. This article covers important points about AILET 2019 Exam Format for undergraduate, postgraduate and Ph.D. programs.

AILET Exam Format 2019 for B.A LL.B

B.A LL.B (Hons.) is a five-year academic program. To gain admission to this program at NLU, Delhi candidates have to appear for AILET 2019. AILET 2019 exam is divided into five sections, which are as follows:

  • Legal Aptitude
  • English including comprehension
  • General knowledge (Present Affairs, History, Civics, General Science, Economics, History)
  • Logical Reasoning
  • Elementary Mathematics

Exam Method

  • Candidates need to use an HB pencil on the OMR sheet.
  • The law entrance exam for undergraduates is organized in the offline method, traditional paper, and pen exam.
  • Each aspirant appearing for the exam will be given an OMR sheet where responses obligatory to be filled up.

Types of Questions

  • Objective type or multiple choice type questions will be asked for the law entrance exam.
  • Each question has four response choices.
  • Aspirants have to mark the most appropriate response.

Time Period

  • Candidates are advised to clear the exam within the stipulated time since requests for extra time will not be entertained.
  • Aspirants will be given 1 hour and 30 minutes (90 minutes) for the test.

AILET 2019 Marking Scheme

  • There is no negative marking for unresponded questions.
  • Aspirants will be honored 1 mark for each accurate response and a penalty of 0.25 for each wrong response.
  • Each question in the exam carries 1 mark each.

In case, an aspirant marks two responses it will be treated as a wrong response and there’ll be a penalty of 0.25 marks

AILET Exam Format 2019 for LL.M

Aspirants with an LL.B degree can or an equivalent law degree can appear for the postgraduate exam. LL.M program is a one year course. AILET 2019 exam format is divided into various sections, which are as follows:

  • Law of contracts
  • Criminal law
  • Constitutional law
  • Legal theory
  • Law of Torts

Additionally, aspirants need to write an essay on given topic.

Exam Method

  • Aspirants also have to write an essay for 50 marks on a given topic.
  • The objective type questions for comprise 100 questions covering: legal theory, criminal law, the law of contracts, the law of torts and constitutional law.
  • The AILET 2019 exam format consists of two parts: objective type questions and a descriptive type question.

Type of Questions

  • There will be a descriptive type question as well.
  • Aspirants have to mark the most appropriate response.
  • The objective type questions or multiple choice questions have four response choices each.

Time Period

  • Candidates are requested to clear the exam within the stipulated time since requests for extra time will not be entertained.
  • The total period of the AILET 2019 exam is 1 hour and 30 minutes (90 minutes).

AILET 2019 Exam Format for PhD

The PhD program provided at NLU, Delhi is at least 2 years and a maximum of 3 years. AILET 2019 exam format for PhD includes two papers, which are as follows:

  • Paper 1: Research Modeology
  • Paper 2: Research Proposal on Specific Paper

About PhD Paper 1

  • Aspirants appearing for the PhD law entrance exam will have to response 100 objective type questions. The paper carries 100 marks and the exam period is 1 hour and 30 minutes (90 minutes). As per the marking scheme, 1 mark will be honored for each accurate response.

About PhD Paper 2

Candidates have to submit a 15-page research proposal. It will carry 100 marks. The proposal can be on the research topic. The research proposal should contain the following items:

  • Research design
  • Research questions, hypothesis, and methodology
  • Title
  • Problem statement and background information on the subject
