JEE Main Exam Format has undergone several revisions over the years. JEE Main is organizeed for two papers i.e. Paper 1 (Engineering) and Paper 2 (Architecture).

Aspirants can opt for one or both the papers. CBSE defines syllabus of JEE Main as per the 10+2 curriculum in India. The following article informs about the exam mode, type of questions, medium of the exam and marking scheme of JEE Main 2018.

There is no change in JEE Main 2018 Exam Format as of now, however, there is a high possibility of change. This is evident from the Finance Minister’s releasement previous this year that a National Testing Service will be formulated to replace Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) in organizing the aptitude test.



JEE Main Exam Format - Paper 1 (B.Tech/ B.E.)

  • Engineering paper will have questions from Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics.
  • All questions will have equal weightage i.e. 4 marks each
  • Paper 1- Admission to Under Graduate engineering courses.
  • The exam date for the online paper will be announced soon. Check JEE Main Exam Dates
  • Level of questions- Class 11th and 12th.
  • Offline Paper- April 8, 2018

Detailed JEE Main Paper 1 Exam Format

  • Nature of Questions – Objective type
  • Number of Questions – 90 questions with each section comprising of 30 questions each.
  • Exam Method – Choice between Online (CBT) or offline method (PBT)
  • Aspirants with 40% Disability- 4 hours
  • Offers admission in Bachelor of Technology (B.Tech) and Bachelor of Engineering (B.E.)

    • Part I - Physics
    • Part II - Chemistry
    • Part III – Mathematics
  • Exam Medium – The question papers at all exam centres will be in Hindi and English. Tabulated below are Language Medium in JEE Main 2018:
  • Exam Period – 3 hours.

JEE Main 2018 Exam Format – Paper 2 (B.Arch/ B.Planning)

  • The paper is scheduled for April 1, 2018.
  • All questions in Mathematics and Aptitude section will have equal weightage i.e. 4 marks each.
  • Paper 2 offers admission to Under Graduate architecture courses.
  • Paper 2 is held in offline mode.
  • Questions Asked- General Aptitude, Mathematics, Drawing Test, Architecture.

- Part III- 70 marks

  • Negative Marking- For each inaccurate response, 1/4th mark of the total mark allotted will be deducted. For JEE Main Drawing Test, marks will be allotted on the basis of aspirant’s drawing skills.
