CBSE UGC NET Exam Pattern 2018

National Eligibility Test 2018 or NET 2018 is a national level exam organized by Central Board of Secondary Education on behalf of University Grants Commission (UGC). This national level test is a qualifying exam for lectureship in universities. It is also compulsory for some research programs.

  • The exam is held twice in a year - once in July and then in January.
  • Paper -II, and Paper-III is based on the subject that the aspirant is appearing for.
  • Paper 1 consists of Mathematics, LR and teaching aptitude and is common for all aspirants.
  • Aspirants are not allowed to exit the exam center after Paper – I.
  • All three papers are held on the same day. The exam usually begins at 9:30 in the morning.
  • CBSE UGC NET 2018 will consist of Multiple-choice questions.
  • Only after the completion of Paper - II will aspirants be allowed a break for lunch. They have to report back at the exam center 30 minutes before the start of Paper -III.
  • There is no negative marking in this exam. It is divided into three papers.
  • The medium of the exam is bilingual - Hindi or English.

Exam Format for CBSE UGC NET 2018

UGC NET 2018 is essential for aspirants trying for lectureship positions. It also exempts students from having to clear an M.Phil degree as many universities in India offer eligibility relaxation to students who have completed NET.

CBSE UGC NET 2018 consists of only Multiple-Choice Questions. It is common for all the aspirants. Paper 2 and Paper 3 are subject papers and test the expertise of the aspirant in the concerned subject. Paper 1 or the General Paper consists of questions based on mathematics, logical reasoning and teaching aptitude. It has three parts - Paper 1, Paper 2 and Paper 3.

  • Aspirants will have to fill in their response in the OMR sheets offered by circling the right number.
  • The test will be pen and paper-based.
  • They will be offered a black ballpoint pen to circle their choices.

Marking Scheme for CBSE UGC NET 2018

As already discussed above, the Test will consist of three papers. All the three papers will consist of only objective type questions and will be held on July 2018 in three separate sessions as under:

  • Second (Paper 2): 100 Marks (50 questions all are mandatory) [Duration: 1¼ Hours (11.15 am to 12.30 pm, IST)]
  • Third (Paper 3): 150 Marks (75 questions all are mandatory) [Duration: 2½ Hours (02.00 pm to 04.30 pm, IST)]
  • First (Paper 1): 100 Marks (60 out of which 50 questions to be attempted) [Duration: 1¼ Hours (09.30 am to 10.45 am, IST)]

Important:

  • All the questions of Paper 2and Paper 3 will be mandatory, covering entire syllabus (including all electives, without options)
  • The aspirant will have to mark the answers for questions of Paper-I, Paper-II and Paper-III on the Optical Mark Reader (OMR) Sheet offered along with the test booklet
  • There is no negative marking in any of the papers

Syllabus for CBSE UGC NET 2018

UGC CBSE NET Exam Syllabus is varied and depends on the subject that the aspirant has selected. This is the reason why aspirants are advised to write their exam on their Masters subject.

Since the eligibility criteria for the NET exam is a Masters’ degree. It is essential that aspirants revise their Bachelors and Masters syllabus thoroughly and are aware of the research advances in their field.

Aspirants should try and solve model question papers and go via earlier years’ question papers.

  • For Paper 1, the syllabus comprises teaching and research aptitude - Questions on Mathematics, Logical Reasoning and Teaching Aptitude will be asked.
  • For Paper 2 and Paper 3, the syllabus will be concerned with the subject, so a thorough revision of Bachelors and Masters syllabus will help the students complete this exam

CBSE UGC NET 2018 Important Instructions

The first and the foremost step should be to get the clear information about the course and the exam including its syllabus, paper format, time duration, its purpose, etc.

  • Make sure that you have all the documents need on the day of the exam
  • Then the aspirants required to download the clear syllabus as well as the paper format as said on the official site.
  • Write and prepare notes. The aspirants are suggested to write down the important events or procedures about various topics and highlight the concerned points as it will help them in revising the things before the examination.
  • Carry a valid id proof and hall ticket to the exam center.
  • No watch or cellphones will be allowed inside the premises so make sure you leave them outside at the gate or do not carry them with you on the day of the exam.
  • The next step is to look for earlier years question papers and try to solve them as it will help the aspirants judge the difficulty level of the exam.
  • While preparing for exams, time management is the must. The aspirants should devote proper time to each topic and try to revise the topics he had already prepared for.
