Utkal University is a UGC Recognized, AICTE Approved and one of the oldest universities in India founded in 1943. This is the largest affiliating university with 267 affiliated general colleges, 15 law colleges and 6 medical and pharmacy colleges. The university imparts professional /nonprofessional education, research, and training.

Aspirants with the relevant Post Graduate degree can register for the above-mentioned programmes. Aspirants can register for admission by filling in the application form and submit the need procedure fee. Admission to the above programmes is done on the basis of entrance examination and qualifying degree, written test, and an interview. as well as special categories viz. Differently-abled etc. as per the rules of GOI/UGC/University Committee. Seats are reserved for people belonging to various categories such as SC/ST/BC etc.

Eligibility Criteria

M.Phil/Ph.D in Arts , M.Phil/Ph.D in Management & M.Phil/Ph.D in Science

M.Phil. (Master of Philosophy):

  • The aspirant must not be employed and should  have passed Post Graduate in the related subject with not less than 55% marks or equivalent grade (50% marks for SC/ST and PWD aspirants) from Utkal University or any other University recognized as equivalent by Utkal University
  • The aspirant must qualify the entrance test organized by the university.

Ph.D. (Doctor of Philosophy):

Course Duration: 2-5 years

  • The aspirant must not be employed and should  have passed Post Graduate in the related subject with not less than 55% marks or equivalent grade (50% marks for SC/ST and PWD aspirants) from Utkal University or any other University recognized as equivalent by Utkal University
  • The aspirant must qualify the entrance test organized by the university.
  • The aspirants who have eligible UGC-CSIR-NET/ GATE/ SLET/ DBT/ ICMR/ ICHR/ ICSSR/ INSPIRE Fellowship of DST/ Rajiv Gandhi National Fellowship do not need to qualify the entrance test organized by the university.
  •  Aspirants having M.Phil. / M.tech Degree also not needs to qualify the entrance test organized by the university only if they have been admitted to M.Phil. / Match Program via a written / interview test.
  •  For admission to PhD in Technology and PhD Degree in Medicine and Dental branch the eligibility of the scholar and supervisor shall be determined as per norms laid down in the statutes and guideline of All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE)/ as per norms laid down in the statutes of the University or guidelines of MCI (Clause 5.1 of PhD Regulation) respectively.

Application Procedure

M.Phil/Ph.D in Arts , M.Phil/Ph.D in Management & M.Phil/Ph.D in Science

The aspirants can apply online by registering himself/herself on the university website. and Organize Certificate from the institution last attended.
  • SC/ST Certificate from the competent authority (MP / MLA / Collector / ADM / SDO / Local Gazetted Revenue Officer not below the rank of Deputy Collector or Tahasildar) by aspirants of those categories.
  • PH certificate physically challenged students and ID card allowed by District Welfare Officer / Community Development Officer / Social Welfare Department of State Government) by the physically challenged aspirants.
  • Sports and Games Certificate of participation are needed for quota and special weightage consideration, from the competent Authority (Director of Sports / Sports Council of the Utkal University), countersigned by the Principal / HOD of the college/department by the aspirants interested to apply under the stated category.
  • The certificate shall be produced from the Rajya / Zilla Sainik Board by the participants interested to apply under Ex/In-service quota.
  • Original application fee e-receipt.
  • Three passport size photographs (one to be fixed in the application form and two more copies to be attached with the form).
  • Migration Certificate, if the aspirant is not from Utkal University.

    1. Mark sheets and Certificates of all examinations.
    2. C.L.C.  

      • The aspirant must send/submit a hard copy of filled in application form along with recent passport size photographs and relevant documents to the Head of the Department before the last date either in person/by post
      • The aspirant must submit the photo affixed and duly signed the application and the following copies of following documents. The aspirant must log in to the website with the user ID and password generated at the time of registration and must follow the following steps:

        • Submit the application fee of Rs.1000/- (Rupees one thousand) to apply for M.Phil. course and Rs.1500/- to apply for the Ph.D. course via credit/debit card/internet banking of any bank accompanied by the generation of e-receipt
        • Fill in all the important details correctly.

        Note: The reference number of the e-receipt will need to input while filling up the online application form.
      • After submission of application form, the aspirant can download the Hall Ticket.
      • The aspirant must keep a copy of the Hall Ticket /application form for future reference.

      Step to apply

        The interested and eligible Aspirants can obtain the Utkal University Ph.D. Entrance test application form from the University Website i.e. www.uuc.ac.in. Aspirants would fill the important details mentioned in a form very cautiously and perfectly.

        Applications for Ph.D. entrance test duly filled in along with the bank draft of Rs.500/- drawn in favor of Comptroller of Finance, Utkal University payable at SBI, Utkal University campus branch, Vani Vihar Towards the cost of application form will be submitted to Heads of relevant Post Graduate Teaching Department before the due date.

        Important instructions

        Applications for Entrance exam dully filled in along with the necessary fees through Bank Draft will be submitted to the Controller of Examinations either through post or in person.

        Incomplete applications in any respect and applications received after the due date will be instantly rejected and no communication will be made with the applicants in this regard

        The applicants who are eligible to be free from Entrance exam and Interview would also apply in the Entrance Test application form for release of required exemption documentation. Such Aspirants are not required to pay for the entrance test.

        Admission Procedure

        • Admission to M.Phil. /Ph.D. programme will be made on the basis of qualifying degree marks followed by interview i.e., 40% career + 40% written test + 20% viva-voce.
        •  Selection of the aspirants, eligible in the National level tests like UGC-NET, GATE, SLET, ICPR, ICSSR, ICHR, etc. There are six boy’s hostels and four for girls. The hostels have the facilities of regular newspapers, periodicals common mess.

        Scholarships: The University endows the following scholarships to its deserving aspirants:

        1. SC/ST Welfare and Backward Class Scholarships
        2. Scholarships are given by Govt. of India
        3. Maruti and Prerna scholarship

        Hostel facility: The university offers separate hostel facility for boys and girls.

        Admission Reservation

        As per the Government of Odisha Notification and university guidelines:

        1. 22.5% of seats shall be reserved for Scheduled Tribe students.
        2. 16.25% of seats shall be reserved for Scheduled Caste students.
        3. 1 seat is reserved for an aspirant with national sports certificate
        4. 3% of the total seats shall be reserved for the aspirants with disabilities.
