Tumkur Universityis a multi-faculty university founded in 2004 in the state of Karnataka. It founded 29 research centers to promote advanced multi-disciplinary research and academic collaborations. Now, the University has 12 postgraduate departments, 2 constituent colleges, and 94 affiliated colleges. The university was carved out of Bangalore University.
The Ph.D. admission is based on an entrance test organized by the respective departments. For the students who have elected a competitive exam, they can skip the entrance test and go directly to the interview.

An aspirant with M.Phil. degree from Tumkur University is also qualified for the Ph.D. program.
If the aspirant received his/her postgraduate result in grade pattern, the grades will be converted to a percentage to fulfill the minimum marks requirement.
The aspirant must have finished a post-graduate degree with a minimum of 55% marks from any recognized University. For SC/ST/cat-1/Physically challenged students, and teachers, librarians, and physical education personnel, the minimum marks are 50%
For Biotechnology, Buddhist Studies, Material Sciences, Microbiology, Physical Education, Sanskrit, the form is to be sent to The Director, Department of Post Graduate studies (Ph.D. section), Tumkur University, Tumkur – 572013.
For Biochemistry, Chemistry, Commerce, Economics, English, History and Archaeology, Kannada, Maths, Physics, Political Science, Social Work, Sociology, the form is to be sent to Chairperson, Tumkur University, Tumkur -572103
The Aspirant must submit the filled application form along with all the need documents, and a demand draft of Rs.1500/- (Rs.750/- for SC/ST/physically challenged) in favor of "Finance Officer, Tumkur University, Tumkur"
The students who have not passed UGC/CSIR (JRF)/SLET/K-SET/GATE exams, or do not hold teacher fellowship has to give an Entrance Exam. The selection will be based on the marks scored by the aspirant in the exam, interview, and the marks in their Master's Degree.
The students who have passed UGC/CSIR (JRF)/SLET/K-SET/GATE exams, or do hold teacher fellowship will be selected 50% on basis of their interview, and 50% on their marks in their Master's Degree.
