TISS Post Graduate Admissions 2018

Applications are invited by Tata Institute of Social Science (TISS), Mumbai for admission to full-time (regular) Post-Graduate Degree Programs (MA, MSc, MPH, MHA) provideed at Mumbai, Tuljapur, Guwahati and Hyderabad campuses and other locations for the academic session 2018.

TISS-NET is a yearly exam organizeed for admissions to Masters in Social Work and concerned programs at Tata Institute of Social Sciences (TISS) Mumbai and its campuses in Tuljiapur, Hyderabad, Guwahati and other locations.

Mumbai, Tuljapur, Guwahati and Hyderabad campuses have independent high-quality faculty engaged in teaching, research, policy and out access activities. All campuses have unified campus placement policy and placement procedure. The Tuljapur, Guwahati and Hyderabad campuses are networked with Mumbai campus to reach the library, online books and journals and classes.

TISS provides 57 Master's Degree programmes from its Mumbai, Tuljapur, Guwahati and Hyderabad campuses for the 2018 batch. Aspirants can apply for a maximum of three programmes across any of the two campuses indicating the order of preference. The merit list will be prepared based on the preferences given by the aspirant in the application form.

National Entrance Test will take place at 39 various cities/towns across the country.  Pre Interview Test (PIT) and Individual Interview (PI)  for programmes provideed at  Mumbai, Tuljapur, MHAT, Calicut, BANYAN, Chennai will be organizeed at the Mumbai Campus. Except for the applicable aspirants from the SC/ST categories, all others will bear the cost of travel, lodging and boarding for attending the NET, as well as PIT/PI. For programmes provideed at Hyderabad and Guwahati, the PIT/PI will be organizeed at the respective campuses. Aspirants applying for programmes at more than one campus will have to travel to these places for PIT/PI.

Eligibility Criteria for TISS (Tata Institute Of Social Sciences) Post Graduate Admissions 2018


  • Eligibility, once determined on the basis of the information given by the aspirants in the Application Form, shall be final for the purpose of test/interview/selection. However, in case it is established that the information furnished by an aspirant is inaccurate or misleading or ineligibility being detected before or after the test/interview/selection/admission, his/her candidature will be cancelled.
  • You should have a bachelor's degree (pass) with at least of 3years period or its equivalent (under the 10+2+3 or 10+2+4 or 10+2+2+1year bridge course format of study or any other format fulfilling the compulsory requirements of 15years formal education) from a recognised university are applicable to apply.
  • At the time of applying if you are pursuing in 3year degree programme then you should have passed in all the subjects for the 1st to 4th semesters and if you are pursuing in 4year degree programme then you should have passed in all the subjects for 1st to 6th semester.
  • If you have been declared as failed in the final year examination you are not applicable to apply for any of the Master's Degree Programmes of the Institute unless you pass your Bachelor's Degree examination on the day of applying for any of the programmes.
  • If a provisionally admitted student fails in the final year of his/her Bachelor's Degree Examination and even if he/she has re-evaluation at the university/college, he/she will not be allowed to continue the programme as the provider of provisional admission stands automatically cancelled on his/her failure in the final year examination.
  • Only those Aspirants who will be able to clear all the requirements of their final year Bachelor's Degree examinations are applicable to apply to all the programme.

NOTE: For MA in Applied Psychology with Specialisations in Counseling Psychology and Clinical Psychology, preference will be given to those aspirants who have a graduate degree/BA in Psychology; BA/B.Sc. Home Science with specialisation in Child/Human Development; BA Social Work, BA General-with at least three papers in Psychology

Till the time the aspirants submit results of the final year degree examination, admission to any of the Master's Degree Programmes of the Institute will be provisional. Those who fail to do so the provisional admission stands cancelled.

The results of the final examination have to be submitted.

How to apply for TISS (Tata Institute Of Social Sciences) Post Graduate Admissions 2018?


Online process:

STEP 1: Visit the application page by clicking here.

STEP 2: Fill in the boxes with the need details to be taken to ‘application home page.’ Fill in your basic details, academic details and have to mention the programmes they wish to apply for in the order of preference.

STEP 3: Choose to pay the fee online (credit/debit card or net banking) OR offline (SBI Challan).

STEP 4: Scan and upload photograph, signature, mark sheet of the last exam passed and other necessary certificates.               

Payment of application fees

Application fee: General aspirants – Rs.1030/-

 SC/ST aspirants (parental income less than 2.75 lakhs) and OBC aspirants (parental income less than 1 lakh) – Rs.250/-

You can choose between two modes of payment namely Cash and Payment gateway.

Payment Gateway (online payment)

Payment gateway pertains to payment made via credit/debit card or online transactions.

Cash (Offline payment)

  • Please note that in case of payment by cash deposit in an SBI discipline, the SBI will charge Rs.50/- as their procedures fee, which has to be paid separately, and is not a part of the application fees.
  • If you choose to pay via cash then deposit the cash amount mentioned on the challan in any discipline of State Bank of India.
  • The bank will return two copies of the challan copy (Student Copy and TISS Copy) with the bank’s seal, signature and journal number on it.
  • Aspirants have to then scan the 'TISS Copy' of the challan, login back to the online application system and upload it.

NOTE: If you are applying for the exemptional fee of Rs.250/- then you would have to upload the caste and income certificate.

Photograph with the following specifications required to be uploaded.

  1. The photograph should be a recent colour photograph taken against a plain background.
  2. The photograph should show only your face and shoulders.
  3. The photograph should not have any other object or person in part or full.
  4. The photograph should be a good resolution; complete photograph in png, jpeg pattern and its size should not exceed 2MB.

Offline process:

Aspirants from remote places where no Internet and Telecommunication facilities are available can get a printed copy of the application form from the Institute. Please send the request for the printed form by Speed Post with application fees to

Selection Procedure of TISS Post Graduate Admissions 2018


The selection of aspirants for various programmes happens in two stages and has three components of assessment. All aspirants appear for the National entrance test (TISSNET). Based on the performance in the TISSNET examination, only shortlisted aspirants are called for the Pre Interview Test and Individual Interview.(PIT/PI)

Merit List preparation:

  1. The weightage for NET, PIT and PI is as follows for the for the preparation of final merit lists for General as well as for Reserved Category aspirants. Aspirants who have applied for a single programme or multiple programmes will be attempting a single question paper with 100 questions for a period of 100 minutes, this comprises aspirants who have chosen HRM in combination with other programme/ programmes.


    This year General Awareness will consist of 40 marks, English Proficiency 30 marks, Maths and Logical Reasoning - 30 marks.

    Each aspirant will also receive his/her scorecard indicating the marks for each component of the examination procedure.

    TISS-NET Exam Format

    The objective test will have questions concerned with General Knowledge; Analytical Ability, Logical Reasoning; and English Proficiency.

    TISS - NET 2018 will not have negative marking for any programme including HRM. NET – 40% ; PIT – 30% ; PI – 30%.
  2. The merit list will be prepared on the basis of merit and the preferences indicated by the aspirants at the time of filling up the online application form (Kindly Indicate your preferences cautiously as it has implications for the merit list) 
  3. In case of a tie between two aspirants, their PI marks will be compared and the one with more marks in PI will be considered, in case there is a tie in PI marks too their PIT marks will be compared and the one with more marks in PIT will be considered, in case there is a tie in PIT marks too then the Entrance test marks will be compared and the one with more marks in entrance test will be considered, in case there is a tie in Entrance marks too then the aspirant higher in age will be given the seat.

Based on the merit list for each programme, the list of selected aspirants will be put up on the website.

Reservation Criteria for TISS Post Graduate Admissions 2018

Reservation of seats is as per Govt. of India

The campus is expected to benefit students from the eight States in the region. of India requirements.

  1. 15% for Scheduled Castes
  2. 7.5% for Scheduled Tribes
  3. 27% for Other Backward Classes (Non-Creamy Layer)
  4. 1% for Kashmiri Migrants
  5. 5% for Arm Forces (Supernumerary Quota, respectively)
  6. The 3% for Persons with Disability as per Disability Act (which is 1% each reserved for persons with:
  • Low Vision/Blindness
  • Learning Disability/Cerebral Palsy)
  • Hearing Impairment, and

The TISS Guwahati Campus has been founded with support from the Ministry of Development of North Eastern Region (MDONER), Govt. 66% of the seats will be proportionately distributed amongst the eight North-eastern States (seats situated to each of the states will follow the reservation norms of that State); and 34% of the seats for students from rest of India (Government of India reservation norms applied to these seats).
