Tata Institute of Social Sciences (TISS) has released notification for TISS BAT 2017 (Bachelor Admission Test) for admission to B.A. (Hons) in Social Work (3 years) (2017-20) and Integrated BA-MA Programme in Social Sciences [B.A. 2017-20 (3 years) & M.A. 2020-22 (2 years)].

The integrated courses are provided from TISS campuses in Guwahati, Hyderabad & Tuljapur and BA (Hons) in Social Work with specialization in Rural Development is provided at TISS Tuljapur Campus only.

The application form for both BA (Honors) and Integrated BA-MA program can be filled online on the official website. The University organizes entrance test for admission to these programs. The entrance test is organized in April. The result of the entrance test is declared in May after which the university begins counseling procedure. 

TISS BACHELOR’S ADMISSION TEST ( TISS-BAT)

A computer-based entrance test will be held on May 14, 2017 at designated Test Centres.

2.You cannot change this choice via a phone call or email or in person.

3.The Institute reserves the right to direct you to one of the Centres chosen or to another nearest Centre.

Bachelor of Arts Honours (B.A. Hons.) – Tuljapur Campus

Branch provided:

Social Work with Specialisation in Rural Development

No. of seats:  30 seats.

Period of the program: 3 years(6 semesters)

Eligibility criteria:

  • You should have passed 12th Class or Intermediate in any subject stream from a Recognized Board.
  • Final pass result should be produced at the time of joining the programme if selected.
  • If you have appeared for 12th class or Intermediate final exams and are awaiting results, you are applicable to apply.
  • If you have studied International Baccalaureate Diploma and will be completing 12th class with complete results declared by June 2017 then to you are applicable to apply.

Age limit (as on April 22, 2017):23 years. If you are above this age then you are strictly debarred from applying.

Bachelor of Arts [BA] + Master of Arts [MA] (Social Science)

Campuses providing the program: Hyderabad, Tuljapur, and Guwahati.

Branch provided:

Social Science.

No. of seats:  60 seats in Hyderabad, 60 seats in Tuljapur and 60 seats in Guwahati campus.

Period of the program: 5 years(10 semesters)

Students enrolled in the Integrated BA-MA program, have the option to exit the course after BA degree or continue with the MA program provided at the same campus subject to fulfillment of certain criteria.

  • If you have studied International Baccalaureate Diploma and will be completing 12th class with complete results declared by June 2017 then to you are applicable to apply.
  • If you have appeared for 12th class or Intermediate final exams and are awaiting results, you are applicable to apply.

TISS BA (Hons.) & Integrated BA - MA Admissions 2018 How To Apply

Bachelor of Arts [BA] {Hons.} (Rural Development) & Bachelor of Arts [BA] + Master of Arts [MA] (Social Science)

STEP 1 Visit the admission portal on the official website and click on the “Apply” button next to BA Programme.

STEP 2 A verification e-mail would be sent to your e-mail id. If you fail to get any mail altogether then please try registering again.

STEP 3 Please follow the instructions and clear your registration procedure. Check your ‘SPAM’ or ‘JUNK’ folder in case you do not get a mail in your inbox. You will have an option to fill the form and clear the procedures entirely at one go or fill partially and save the form for completion before the due date.

Payment of application fees:

Application fee: General aspirants – Rs.1025/-

 SC/ST aspirants (parental income less than 2.75 lakhs) and OBC aspirants (parental income less than 1 lakh) – Rs.275/-

You can choose between two modes of payment namely Cash and Payment gateway.

Payment Gateway (online payment)

Payment gateway pertains to payment made via credit/debit card or online transactions.

Cash (Offline payment)

  • The bank will return two copies of the challan copy (Student Copy and TISS Copy) with the bank’s seal, signature and journal number on it.
  • Aspirants have to then scan the 'TISS Copy' of the challan, login back to the online application system and upload it.
  • Please note that in case of payment by cash deposit in an SBI discipline, the SBI will charge Rs.50/- as their procedures fee, which has to be paid separately, and is not a part of the application fees.]
  • If you choose to pay via cash then deposit the cash amount mentioned on the challan in any discipline of State Bank of India.

NOTE: If you are applying for the exemptional fee of Rs.275/- then you would have to upload the caste and income certificate.  

Photograph for Hall Ticket

Photograph with the following specifications required to be uploaded.

1.The photograph should be a recent color photograph taken against a plain background.

2.The photograph should show only your face and shoulders.

3.The photograph should not have any other object or person in part or full.

4.The photograph should be a good resolution; complete photograph in png, jpeg pattern and its size should not exceed 2MB.

Additional Information on Application Procedure:

  • Aspirants submitting E-application in multiple numbers will be disqualified.
  • Applications received after the due date will not be considered and the application fees paid will also not be refunded.
  • The application fee will not be refunded if the aspirant does not appear for the written test or fails to join the programme if admitted.
  • Incomplete application forms and forms with inconsistent information will be rejected.
  • Application fee paid by the aspirants will not be refunded if they are established to be not applicable to the programme.

TISS BA (Hons.) & Integrated BA - MA Admissions 2018 Admission Procedure

Bachelor of Arts [BA] {Hons.} (Rural Development) & Bachelor of Arts [BA] + Master of Arts [MA] (Social Science)

Tata Institute of Social Sciences – Bachelor’s Admission Test (TISS – BAT) is the first stage of selection upon completing which you are shortlisted.

There is an additional second stage of selection procedure only for Social Work with Specialisation in Rural Development, Tuljapur campus to test your motivation and orientation. Part A would be worth 60 marks.

For aspirants with disabilities: Extra time of 20minutes each for computer-based and written test with the arrangement of a scribe to support the appearance of the aspirant.

Based on merit obtained in TISS – BAT and PI selection is done. You would be writing two short responses to descriptive questions in English. The details of the TISS - BAT exam are as given below.

Exam Format

Total duration:  90 minutes.

Maximum Marks:  100.

The exam would be divided into two parts namely A and B.

Part A – 60 minutes test with multiple choice questions on present affairs, logical and analytical reasoning, social awareness.

Part B -  30 minutes test carrying 40 marks. The individual interview (PI) is worth 50marks.

NOTE: It is mandatory to attempt both the parts and qualify the same. Both Part A and Part B would have separate cut-off marks for evaluation.

TISS BA (Hons.) & Integrated BA - MA Admissions 2018 Reservation Criteria

Reservation of seats is as per Govt. of India requirements.

  • 1% of Kashmiri Migrants
  • 27% for Other Backward Classes (Non-Creamy Layer)
  • 15% for Scheduled Castes
  • The 3% for Persons with Disability as per Disability Act (which is 1% each reserved for persons with
  • 7.5% for Scheduled Tribes
  1. Low Vision/Blindness
  2. Hearing Impairment, and
  3. Learning Disability/Cerebral Palsy)
  • 5% for Arm Forces (Supernumerary Quota, respectively)

The TISS Guwahati Campus has been founded with support from the Ministry of Development of North Eastern Region (MDONER), Govt. of India

The campus is expected to benefit students from the eight States in the region. 66% of the seats will be proportionately distributed amongst the eight North-eastern States (seats situated to each of the states will follow the reservation norms of that State); and 34% of the seats for students from rest of India (Government of India reservation norms applied to these seats).
