The Tata Institute of Fundamental Research (TIFR) was founded in June 1945 with the active support of the Sir Dorabji Tata Trust. In 1962, the Institute shifted to its present campus at Colaba, on the shores of the Arabian Sea. In May 2002, Tata Institute of Fundamental Research was declared a deemed university by University Grants Commission. 

In addition to the Integrated Ph.D. and Ph.D. in different branches, the university provides Ph.D. in Science Education programme to its students every year. The aspirant is shortlisted for admission to the above mentioned course on the basis of their performance in the entrance examination organized by the university.

The aspirant can register themselves to the above mentioned course by submitting the examination fee of Rs. 400/- via online payment modes or demand draft (DD).

TIFR Ph.D. Admissions 2018 Eligibility Criteria

M.Phil/ Ph.D. in Science

The aspirant must possess the post-graduate degree in M.Sc. (in any subject), M.S.W., M.A. (in Cognitive Science, Psychology, Education) or B.Tech./B.E./ M.B.B.S. or equivalent degree from this university or any other recognised university.

Pre-requisites for filling up the application form:

  1. Recent Passport size photograph
  2. Demand Draft details (DD number, Bank, etc.) or Credit / Debit Card details for online payment of application fee 
  3. Academic details

Offline Application Procedure

  • Aspirants can apply offline by sending duly filled-in applications along with passport size photographs and demand draft (DD) of Rs. 400/- to the following address:

Subsequently, an email containing the activation code will be sent to the aspirant.
  • Upon clicking the link,  aspirant’s account will be activated and he/she can log in using the registered Email-id and password
  • Next, the aspirant should upload his/her recent passport size photograph, educational as well as professional qualifications, and proceed to pay the need fees via online payment modes.
  • Aspirants can submit the application fee online using Credit/Debit card or via DD drawn in favor of “Homi Bhabha Centre for Science Education, TIFR”, payable at Mumbai.
  • Aspirants need to post the DD along with all the enclosures at the following address:

    Selection of the aspirants for Ph.D. in science education programme will be based on the rank in the merit list of entrance examination, to be organized by the university. Those who qualify will be intimated for the interview round.
