Thiruvallavur University provides distance education in the Thiruvallavur Institute of Distance Education, also known as TIDE. Along with Under Graduate and Post Graduate programs, the university also provides postgraduate level diploma in different specializations. It provides admissions in different courses of Undergraduate and Postgraduate programmes.

The University provides 12 Undergraduate and 8 Post-Graduate distance programmes in which students who have finished 10+2 or graduation can take admission. It also provides one-year postgraduate diplomas in 3 courses and 6 months diploma certification in two courses. 

The undergraduate programmes are provided for a duration of 3 years while the postgraduate programmes are provided for a given duration of 2 years. Eligibility Criteria


Eligibility Criteria for MA courses is as follows: 

MA TamilB.A. Degree Examination with Tamil as the Main Subject of study or B.A. / B.Sc./B.Lit. Degree Examination of this University any other examination accepted as equivalent thereto by this University are qualified for admission.
MA EnglishGraduation in any branch from this university or any other recognized university.
MA HistoryBA/ B.Sc./ B.Com. The degree of this University or examinations of other Universities accepted as equivalent thereto by this University.
MA EconomicsB.Com. Commerce, Bank Management, Cooperation, Corporate Secretaryship, Computer Applications, BA Industrial Organisation, Co-operation, BBA, BBM, BCS, and B.Sc. Mathematics or B.A. Economics [or] B.Sc. Computer Science [or] BCA with any two Core - Main papers provided in the B.Com. Degree Course.

Master of Science [M.Sc] (Mathematics)

Aspirants who have passed the B.Sc. Degree Examination in Discipline-I Mathematics or B.Sc. Applied Sciences of this University or examinations of other Universities accepted as equivalent thereto by this University are qualified for admission.


Aspirants who have finished their graduation from regular/distance university in any branch can apply for MBA. 

Eligibility Criteria

For admission to M. Phil (Master of Philosophy) Program, aspirants its will be compulsory hold a postgraduate degree in a relevant discipline. An aspirant should apply for admission to the M.Phil. The program only after qualifying their pg degree

In addition, aspirants who have completed their post graduation degree with less than 17 years of total duration of study are not eligible to apply for this program. The category-wise eligibility is given below:

For M. Phil (Full-Time): A aspirants it will be compulsory have a minimum of 55% marks for general category and 50% marks for SC/ST category, in pg degree. aspirants who are working as Full-time Research Assistants/ Project Fellows/JRF/SRF in a time-bound research scheme or one-year duration or more in University Departments, Research Departments of affiliated colleges/ Recognized Research Institutions are also eligible for admission

For Ph.D.: The admission to Ph.D. (Doctor of Philosophy) Programs are conducted in four sessions every year; the complete application form with the necessary certificates for admission to Ph.D. Programs its will be compulsory reach the University office before the first working day of January, April, July, and October for provisional registration

BA , B.Com & BCA

Admission to the First Year UG courses is open to the aspirants who

  • have successfully finished 12 or 13 years of education in any State in India or Abroad under 11+1 or 10+2 or 11+2 format, subject to approval by the authorities of this University.
  • have passed the G.C.E. [Advanced Level / Principal Level] with not less than 3 subjects in the „A? Level with ENGLISH in the „O? Level / SUBSIDIARY Level.
  • have passed the Plus Two examinations of the National Open School, New Delhi.

The application form can also be requested via the post by submitting a demand draft of Rs. 100 drawn in the favor of The Director, Thiruvalluvar Institute of Distance Education, Thiruvalluvar University, Vellore that should be payable at Vellore.

It can also be obtained by post enclosing a Demand Draft for Rs.150/-and a self-addressed envelope of size 30x24cm and sent to the Director, TIDE, Thiruvalluvar University, Vellore.

The following documents should be enclosed along with the application form:

  • A demand draft for the registration fee prescribed drawn in favor of the Director, TIDE, Thiruvalluvar University payable at Vellore.
  • Equivalent certificate obtained from the Association of Indian Universities, if the aspirant has graduated from a foreign University.
  • A recent passport size (4.5 cm X 3.5 cm) photograph pasted on the first page of the application form.
  • The self-addressed stamped acknowledgment card
  • A copy of the certificate as evidence for the date of birth and community, Transfer Certificate (TC).
  • Attested photocopies of the Statement of Marks, Transfer Certificate and other relevant; certificates pertaining to the qualifying examination.

For spot admission the aspirant needs to submit a duly filled in application form with all relevant certificates in original, their photocopies, Demand Draft for the course fee in full or its first installment at any one of the spot admission centers and get admitted to their respective courses.

Selection Procedure


Students can get admission in distance courses in Thiruvalluvar University by filling the application form. The university does not organize any entrance test for this.

Admissions for the M.Phil program will be based on the marks obtained in the basic qualifying examinations (50% of marks) and the entrance examination (50% of marks) connect by the Institute
