The Tata Institute of Social Sciences (TISS) was established in 1936 as the Sir Dorabji Tata Graduate School of Social Work. In 1944, it was renamed as the Tata Institute of Social Sciences. The year 1964 was an important landmark in the history of the Institute when it was declared Deemed to be a University under Section 3 of the University Grants Commission Act (UGC), 1956. Started out as a small institute offering PG Diploma in Social Work, TISS has since expanded continuously in terms of educational programmes and infrastructure.

Tata Institute of Social Sciences (TISS) Offers various Courses including undergraduate, postgraduate, M.PHIL. and Ph.D. programs. Admissions are taken through entrance exams – TISS BACHELOR’S ADMISSION TEST ( TISS-BAT), National Entrance Test (TISSNET) are the courses for which Tata Institute of Social Sciences (TISS) is mainly grown for.

Eligibility

  • Candidates having a bachelor's degree with the minimum of 3 years duration or its equivalent from a recognized university are eligible to apply.
  • At the time of applying candidates studying in 3 year degree progremme should have passed in all the subjects for the 1st to 4th semesters and candidates studying in 4 year degree programmes should have passed in all the subjects for 1st to 6th semester are also apply.

How to apply?

Candidates are required to apply online through the E-application process only. Please read through this page before filling in the application form. Candidates fulfilling the eligibility criteria should apply for the programme only through an online process by visiting the admissions link on the TISS website on or before  December 08, 2017.

Instruction To Fill online application form:

  • Candidates have to go the official website.  http://www.tiss.edu
  • The candidates can check the “Admission” section of the university website to access their online Admission form.
  • Select "Visit Admissions website" from Master Programmes in given list.
  • Apply For MA Programmes
  • In order to start your online application form, you will first have to register using your email id.
  • Please enter a correct working email id. An email will be sent to this email id after you click the ‘Register’ button to verify your email id.
  • Please read the email carefully and follow the instructions to continue your application process.
  • To this email with a link to set a password and access the application.
  • Please enter details in the form "Login Section" according to the instructions given next to each field and click the ‘Login’ button.
  • After clicking the ‘Login’ button you will be taken to the 'Application Home' page
  • Candidates will have an option to fill the form
  • Pay the application fee through Credit card/ Debit Card/ Net Banking and SBI Demand Draft
  • Scan and upload photograph, signature, mark sheet of the last exam passed and other necessary certificates.
  • and complete the processes entirely in one go or fill partially and save the form for completion before the due date

Candidates can apply for multiple programmes and pay for all the programmes in one online form and should not fill more than one online form. If a candidate is found to have filled more than one form, all his/her applications will be canceled.

Admission Process

The selection of candidates for different programmes happens in two stages and has three components of assessment. All candidates appear for the National entrance test (TISSNET). Based on the performance in the TISSNET examination, only shortlisted candidates are called for the Pre Interview Test and Personal Interview (PIT/PI).

preparation of Merit List

  • The weightage for NET, Pre Interview Test and Personal Interview (PIT & PI) is as follows for the for the preparation of final merit lists for General as well as for Reserved Category candidates. NET – 40% ; PIT – 30% ; PI – 30%.
  • The merit list will be prepared on the basis of merit and the preferences indicated by the candidates at the time of filling up the online application form.
  • In case of a tie between two candidates, their PI marks will be compared and the one with more marks in PI will be considered, in case there is a tie in PI marks too their PIT marks will be compared and the one with more marks in PIT will be considered, in case there is a tie in PIT marks too then the Entrance test marks will be compared and the one with more marks in entrance test will be considered, in case there is a tie in Entrance marks too then the candidate higher in age will be given the seat.
