Founded by the government of Tamil Nadu in 1989, Tamil Nadu Veterinary & Animal Sciences University (TANUVAS) was the first veterinary and animal sciences university to be found in Asia. Realizing the importance of education research in animal and fisheries sciences, the university thrives to increase its productivity towards better income generation for the resource-poor farmer by providing undergraduate, postgraduate as well as doctoral programmes to its students. 

The university has 6 constituent colleges which provide the following Masters and Doctoral programmes every year:

  • Master of Science (M.Sc. in Bioinformatics, Biostatistics)
  • Doctor in Philosophy (Ph.D. in Veterinary and Animal Sciences, Food Technology)
  • Master of Veterinary Sciences (M.V.Sc.)
  • Master of Technology (M.Tech. in Food Technology)
  • Master in Philosophy (M.Phil. in Biotechnology)
  • Master in Business Management (MBA in Food & Livestock Business Management)

Only aspirants with the relevant qualifying degree can register for admission to the postgraduate and research programmes via online application procedure available at the official university website. Selection of aspirants for these programmes will be done on the basis of qualifying degree examination as well as Common Entrance Examination (CEE), which will be organized by the university.

Upon submitting finished applications along with the prescribed application fee and supporting documents), the participants can appear for Common Entrance Examination (CEE).

TANUVAS PG Admission 2018 Eligibility Criteria

The the following section contains detailed information about eligibility for various programmes provideed by TANUVAS.

MVSc

M.V.Sc. in 22 branches
 
  • Aspirants with an OGPA of 2.75 out of 4.00 under trimester system or 6.50 out of 10.00 or 65% aggregate under semester format alone are also applicable to apply
  • Aspirants should possess a BVSc / BVSc & Animal Husbandry degree of TANUVAS or any other University recognized as equivalent thereto            
  • Aspirants should have finished their degree from colleges recognized by the Veterinary Council of India (VCI) with an at least of 55% marks. For aspirants belonging to SC/ST category, an at least pass is sufficient

ME/M.Tech

M.Tech. in Food Technology 

  • Aspirants with an OGPA of 2.75 out of 4.00 under trimester system or 6.50 out of 10.00 or 65% aggregate under semester format alone are also applicable to apply
  • Aspirants should possess an at least of 55% marks in B.Tech. (Food Procedures Technology / Food Technology) degree of TANUVAS (or) a 4-year degree programme in equivalent Engineering or Technology course from a recognized University. For SC/ST aspirants, an at least pass is sufficient

M.Sc

M.Sc. in Bioinformatics

Period of the Programme: 2 years

  • The aspirant should possess a BVSc, BVSc & AH, MBBS, BDS, or BSc degree in any discipline of Agriculture/Life Sciences/Genetics/ Biochemistry/ Biotechnology/ Bioinformatics/ Microbiology/ Pharmacology from a recognised university
  • The aspirant should possess an OGPA of 2.75/4.00 in trimester system or 6.50/10.00 in semester system or 50% in the conventional system in the qualifying degree. For SC/ST aspirants, an at least pass is sufficient

M.Sc. in Biostatistics

Period of the Programme: 2 years

  • The aspirant should possess a BSc(Ag) / BSc(Hort) / BTech(FPT) / BTech(Dairy Tech) or any degree in life/biological sciences
  • The aspirant should possess an OGPA of 2.75/4.00 in trimester system or 6.50/10.00 in semester system or 50% in conventional system in the qualifying degree examination. For SC/ST aspirants, a at least pass is sufficient

MBA/PGDM

MBA in Food and Livestock Business Management

Period of the Programme: 2 years

  • Graduates of State Veterinary Universities / Agricultural Universities / Deemed Universities under ICAR system with a at least of 6.00/10.00 or equivalent percentage are also applicable to apply
  • Aspirants should possess a BVSc, BVSc & AH, B.Tech (Food Technology / Dairy Technology / Poultry Technology), BFSc, BSc (Ag/Hort), B.Tech (Food Engineering / Agri. Engineering)

Ph.D in Veterinary Science

  • Aspirants should have secured an OGPA of 2.75 out of 4.00 under trimester system or 6.50 out of 10.00 under semester system or 65% marks in the masters degree alone. For SC/ST aspirants, a at least pass is sufficient
  • Aspirants should possess a BVSc & AH degree and masters degree in the relevant field of specialization from a recognized University are applicable to apply for the 20 branches of the PhD programme in Veterinary & Animal Sciences (Except Animal Biotechnology and Livestock Products Technology) 

For Ph.D. in Animal Biotechnology, aspirants must possess MVSc degree in any field of specialization (except Animal Husbandry Economics, Veterinary and Animal Husbandry Extension and Animal Husbandry Statistics) or M.Sc. degree in Biotechnology with basic BVSc & AH degree recognized as equivalent thereto.

For Ph.D. in Livestock Products Technology, aspirants should possess MVSc degree in Dairy Science (or) Meat Science and Technology (or) Livestock Products Technology with a basic BVSc & AH degree recognized as equivalent thereto

For Ph.D. in Food Technology, aspirants with M.Sc. in Food Technology, Food Science, and Technology, Post-Harvest Technology, Food Procedures Technology, Food Procedure Engineering, Dairy Technology, Dairy Engineering, Biochemistry/Food Chemistry are applicable to apply

M.Phil/ Ph.D. in Engineering

M.Phil in Biotechnology

Period of the Programme: 1 year

  • Aspirants should possess an at least of 60% aggregate marks or equivalent OGPA in their Master's degree in the relevant field from a recognized university. For SC/ST aspirants, an at least pass is sufficient.

TANUVAS PG Admission 2018 How to Apply?

ME/M.Tech , M.Sc & MBA/PGDM

Aspirant can download the prospectus along with the application form, available on the official university website

Aspirants are requested to fill in all the relevant details in the application form and affix their recent passport size photograph in both, the application form as well as admit card

A registration fee of INR 1000 (INR 500 for SC/ST aspirants) should also be sent along with finished applications. The fee should be sent in the form of Demand Draft (DD) drawn in favour of “Finance Officer, TANUVAS, Chennai-51”, payable at Chennai

  • The following supporting documents should be attached along with the finished applications:
    1. Nativity Certificate in the prescribed pattern (if eligible).
    2. Attested copy of the SSLC / HSC mark sheet or First page of Service Register in proof of date of birth.
    3. Attested copy of the Community Certificate.
    4. Attested copy of the Provisional / Degree Certificate of Bachelor’s / Master’s Degree.
    5. Attested copies of Statement of Marks / Report cards / Transcript card showing the details of courses underwent and the marks/OGPA obtained in the degree course related.
    6. Attested copy of the organize certificate from the Head of the Institution last studied.
    7. Duly filled admit card 
    8. Attested copy of the Service Certificate showing the details of service/experience.
    9. Copies of Research article, Famous article, Book, Manual, Booklet published, Proof for Medals / Awards etc., (for Ph.D., MSc, MPhil aspirants only) required to be enclosed.
  • The following original documents should be presented at the time of counseling for admission:

    3. Organize Certificate from the Head of the Institution last studied

TANUVAS PG Admission Procedure 2018

The following section contains detailed selection procedure for various programmes provideed by TANUVAS.

MVSc

Aspirants will be selected for admission on the basis of the marks obtained in the CEE(50%) and the qualifying degree examination (50%)

In case of equal total marks, the ranking will be done on the basis of marks scored in the Common Entrance Examination alone. At Least need aggregate out of the total marks to appear for counseling is:-

  • For SC/ST aspirants: 40%
  • For General aspirants: 50%
In case of further tie, the date of birth of aspirants will be considered and older aspirant shall be given priority over the younger aspirant  Each question will carry 0.5 mark and the examination will be of 3 hours duration.

Counseling Process: The applicable aspirants will be called for counseling as per the merit list.

Common Entrance Examination Details: The examination for M.V.Sc admission will be of undergraduate level and consist of 200 objective type questions.

ME/M.Tech

Aspirants will be selected for admission on the basis of the marks obtained in the CEE (50%) and the marks obtained in the qualifying degree examination (50%)

In case of equal total marks, the ranking will be done on the basis of marks scored in the Common Entrance Examination alone. In case of further tie, the date of birth of aspirants will be considered and older aspirant shall be given priority over the younger aspirant 

Common Entrance Examination: The examination for M.Tech admission will be of undergraduate level and consist of 200 objective type questions. Each question will carry 0.5 marks and the examination will be of 3 hours duration.

Counseling Process: The applicable aspirants will be called for counseling as per the merit list. At Least need aggregate out of the total marks to appear for counseling is:-

  • For SC/ST aspirants: 40%
  • For General aspirants: 50%

M.Sc

M.Sc. in Bioinformatics

Aspirants will be selected for M.Sc. (Bioinformatics) programme on the basis of marks obtained in CEE and the qualifying degree examination.

Common Entrance Examination: The examination will include 75 objective type questions covering the broad areas of Molecular Genetics, Microbiology, Cell Biology and Biotechnology etc. Each question will carry 1 mark and the time period for the exam will be 1½ hours.

Counseling Process: The applicable aspirants will be called for counseling as per the merit list. At Least need aggregate out of the total marks to appear for counseling is:-

  • For SC/ST aspirants: 35%
  • For General aspirants: 40%

M.Sc. in Biostatistics

Aspirants will be selected for M.Sc. (Biostatistics) programme on the basis of marks obtained in the entrance examination and the qualifying degree examinations.

Common Entrance Examination: The entrance examination will include 75 objective type questions covering the broad areas of Descriptive Statistics, Probability theory, Sampling techniques etc. Each question will carry 1 mark and the exam period will be 1½ hours.

Counseling Process: The applicable aspirants will be called for counseling as per the merit list. At Least need aggregate out of the total marks to appear for counseling is:-

  • For SC/ST aspirants: 35%
  • For General aspirants: 40%

MBA/PGDM

MBA in Food and Livestock Business Management

Aspirants will be selected on the basis of their performance in Entrance Test, GroupDiscussion, and Individual Interview.

Ph.D in Veterinary Science

Common Entrance Examination:

  • The examination will be organized in the related subject studied at masters degree level. At Least need aggregate out of the total marks to appear for counseling is:-

    • For SC/ST aspirants: 40%
    • For General aspirants: 50%
    It will consist of 75 objective type questions and each question will carry 1 mark. The period of the exam will be 1 ½ hours
  • The aspirants qualified for Senior Research Fellowship of ICAR are exempted from appearing for entrance examination

Counseling Process: The applicable aspirants will be called for counseling as per the merit list.

M.Phil/ Ph.D. in Engineering

Aspirants will be selected for M.Phil degree programme as per the qualifying components listed below:

Common Entrance Examination: The examination will include 75 objective type questions covering the broad areas of Microbiology, Molecular Biology, and Biotechnology etc. Each question will carry 1 mark and the time period for the exam will be 1½ hours.

Counseling Process: The applicable aspirants will be called for counseling as per the merit list. At Least need aggregate out of the total marks to appear for counseling is:-

  • For SC/ST aspirants: 35%
  • For General aspirants: 40%

Reservation Criteria

75% of the total seats are reserved for the natives of Tamil Nadu. The remaining 25% filled by aspirants from other states who are admitted via Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR). 

In the case of unfilled seats in state quota, the same will be filled with aspirants from other states who have appeared for the CEE.
