Tamil Nadu Teachers Education University (TNTEU) is a state university which specializes in teachers' education. It is a unique university of this kind, for it is the first and only one University in India, which is solely founded for promoting excellence in teachers education. It has more than 700 affiliated colleges which consist of Government/ Government-Aided/ Self-Financing Colleges of Education.

The university provides the following 4 programmes in most of its affiliated colleges:

  • Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.)
  • Master of Philosophy (M.Phil.)
  • Master of Education (M.Ed.)
  • Bachelor of Education (B.Ed.)

B.Ed programme is provided under various optional subjects and aspirants want admission must fulfill the relevant eligibility criteria i.e. 10+2 HSC examination/ graduate degree/ postgraduate degree. Final selection for admission to B.Ed. the programme will be done on the basis of aspirant’s performance in the qualifying degree examination. Interested aspirants can apply for admissions by submitting duly filled-in applications, along with necessary enclosures and the procedure fee.

Bachelor of Education (B.Ed.) – 2 years

The university provides B.Ed. Degree programme in the following optional subjects:

  6. Biological Science (Botany)

  • For Subjects 1-10: Aspirant should have passed the 10+2 qualifying examination organized by the respective State Board or CBSE or any other recognised board of Education / Examination
  • For Subjects 1-10: Aspirants should have scored the following at least aggregate of marks in order to be applicable for admission to B.Ed. programme:
  • For Subjects 1-10: Aspirants who have passed Under Graduate Degree Examination of the UGC recognised Universities in any of the subjects provided by the Directorate of School Education at the Secondary/ Higher Secondary Education level are applicable for admission

If the aspirant possesses Under Graduate as well as Post Graduate degree in the same subject, the marks obtained in the Under Graduate Degree alone shall be considered for eligibility criteria.

  • For Subjects 11-19: Aspirants who possess the Post-Graduate degree in Home Science/ Economics/ Commerce/ Political Science/ Commerce/ Sociology/ Psychology/ Logic/ Indian Culture/ Philosophy with minimum 50% marks are applicable for admission. In this case, the major subject in the Under Graduate and Post Graduate Degrees shall be one and the same
  • For Subjects 1-19: Aspirants with Post Graduate degree (5-year integrated course) under 10+2+5 or 11+1+5 format of study shall also be considered for admission

Aspirants should submit duly filled-in applications along with the application fee of Rs. 300/- in person or via post. In case of SC/ST aspirants, the fee to be submitted will be Rs. 175/- and the participant must also produce the attested copy of Community certificate.

The application fee should be paid either in cash or via demand draft (DD) drawn in favor of “The Secretary, Tamil Nadu B.Ed. Admission” and payable at Chennai.

Selection of the aspirants will be done on the basis of marks secured in the qualifying UG/Post Graduate Degree examination.

Aspirants will be intimated for counseling on the basis of their rank. Allocation of college and course available at the time of counseling will be done based on the rank and communal reservations.

Note: Aspirant should produce all the original certificates at the time of counseling for verification and admission.

TNTEU B.Ed. Admissions 2018 Reservation Criteria

Reservation Criteria:

Seats are reserved for aspirants belonging to BC, MBC/ DNC, SC and ST communities as per the following rules laid out by the Government of Tamil Nadu:

  • 1% of the total seats are reserved for aspirants belonging to Scheduled Tribe (ST)
  • 20% of the total seats are reserved for aspirants belonging to MBC and DNC category/community
  • 3% of the seats will be reserved for Differently-Abled students (Physically and visually challenged) in each College of Education
  • Among the 18% seats reserved for Scheduled Caste (SC) aspirants,3% of the seats are provided to Arunthathiyars
  • 1 seat in each College of Education for the Wards of Ex-Serviceman of Tamil Nadu origin
  • Among the 30% seats reserved for aspirants belonging to BC, 3.5% of the seats are earmarked for Muslim aspirants
  • Rest of the 31% seats belong to general category aspirants for Open Competition (OC)

TNTEU B.Ed. Admissions 2018 Notes

Aspirants will need to submit a demand draft (DD) of INR 2000 (INR 1000 in case of SC/ST aspirants) as initial payment at the time of counseling. DD should be drawn in favor of “The Secretary, Tamil Nadu B.Ed. Admission” and the amount will be adjusted in the tuition fees to be paid at the respective colleges.
