Tamil Nadu Agriculture University (TNAU) provides admissions in Regular/ Integrated & External Ph. D. by research programmes under School of PG Studies. There is special relaxation has been provideed by TNAU to SC/ST/OBC/Muslims & students belongs to Jammu & Kashmir. TNAU Ph.D. Admission 2018 Eligibility Criteria

M.Phil/ Ph.D. in Agriculture, M.Phil/ Ph.D. in Science & M.Phil/ Ph.D. in Engineering

TNAU provides Ph.D. in different modes in various specializations. Find all the relevant eligibility details with respect to the streams as mentioned below:

  • External Ph.D. by Research (4 years)
  • Integrated Ph. D. (4 years)
  • Regular Ph.D. (3 years)

Provideed by School of PG Studies:

  • Agriculture Economics:  Students must have passed M.Sc.(Ag.) in Agricultural Economics / Agricultural Marketing Management.
  • Agriculture Extension: Students must have passed M.Sc.(Ag.) in Agricultural Entomology
  • Agronomy:  Students must have passed M.Sc.(Ag.) in Agronomy
  • Agriculture Meteorology & Climatology: Students must have passed M.Sc.(Ag.) in Agricultural Meteorology and Climatology
  • Crop Physiology: Students must have passed M.Sc.(Ag.) in Crop Physiology or Plant Physiology
  • Environmental Sciences: 
    1. Aspirants possessing a Master’s degree in Environmental science from TNAU/ Agricultural Microbiology /Soil Science and Agricultural Chemistry/Agronomy / Crop Physiology/Plant Breeding and Genetics/ Agricultural Entomology/ Plant Nematology /Plant Pathology/ Horticulture/ Forestry
    2. Or M.Tech in Agricultural Engineering from TNAU or from a recognized university
    3. Students with M.Sc. (Biotechnology) with basic farm science, the degree is also applicable to apply.
  • Soil Science & Agriculture Chemistry: Students must have passed M.Sc.(Ag.) in Soil Science and Agricultural Chemistry
  • Agriculture Microbiology: Students must have passed M.Sc.(Ag.) in Agricultural Microbiology
  • Plant Breeding & Genetics: Students must have passed M.Sc.(Ag.) Plant Breeding and Genetics/M.Sc.(Ag.) Plant Genetic Resources/ M.Sc. (Ag.) Genetics and Plant Breed
  • Seed Science & Technology: Students must have passed M.Sc.(Ag.) in Seed Science and Technology
  • Agriculture Entomology & Plant Nematology:  Students must have passed M.Sc.(Ag.) Plant Nematology/ M.Sc.(Ag.) Agricultural Entomology/ M.Sc.(Ag.) in Plant Pathology with thesis research in Plant Nematology.
  • Plant Pathology:  Students must have passed M.Sc.(Ag.) in Plant Pathology
  • Sericulture: Students must have passed M.Sc. (Sericulture) / M.Sc. (Ag.) in Sericulture
  • Biotechnology:
    1. Students must have passed M.Sc. (Biotechnology) of TNAU or its equivalent in the concerned field of specialization with basic Farm Science Degree.
    2. Students possessing Master degree in Plant Breeding and Genetics / Ag. Microbiology/ Ag. Entomology/ Plant Pathology/ Horticulture/ Forestry/ Environmental Sciences/ Seed Science and Technology/ Crop Physiology/ Plant Nematology/Bioinformatics/ Biochemical Technology/Microbial Technology of TNAU are also applicable.
  • Soil & Water Conservation Engineering:
    1. Students must have passed M. Engg.)/M.E.(Ag.) of TNAU or IIT in the related branch/M.Tech. (Ag. Engg.) Environmental Engineering
    2. B.E./B. Tech in (Ag. Engg.) degrees from State Agricultural Universities and who earned postgraduate programme in Government institutions viz. Indian Institute of Technology, Constituent Colleges of Anna University, Government Engineering Colleges.
  • Farm Power Machinery: Students must have passed M.Tech. (Ag. Engg.)/M.E.(Ag.) of TNAU or IIT in the related branch
  • BioEnergy:  Students must have passed M.Tech (Ag. Engg.)/M.E.(Ag.) of TNAU or IIT in the related branch
  • Agriculture Processing and Food Engineering: Students must have passed M.Tech. (Ag. Engg.)/M.E.(Ag.) of TNAU or IIT in the related branch
  • Extension Education: Students must have passed M.Sc.(Ag.) Agricultural Extension / In-service aspirants with M.Sc. Home Science Extension
  • Agriculture Business Management:
    1. Students must have passed Master degree in Business Management / Business Administration/ Agricultural Marketing Management /Agricultural Economics of State Agri. Universities.
    2. Master degree in Agribusiness Management of IIMs, PG Diploma (2 years) in the management of All India Management Association, PG Diploma (2 years) in Agribusiness Management of MANAGE, Hyderabad, PG Diploma (2 years) in Rural Management of IRMA, Anand, Gujarat.

  • Fruit Science: Students must have passed M.Sc.(Hort.) in Fruit Science /M.Sc.(Horticulture)
  • Vegetable Science: Students must have passed M.Sc(Hort.) in Vegetable Science/M.Sc (Horticulture)
  • Floriculture & Landscaping: 
    1. Students must have passed M.Sc.(Hort.) Floriculture and Medicinal Crops/ M.Sc.(Hort.) in Floriculture and Landscape Gardening/M.Sc.(Horticulture).
    2. Or M.Sc. (Hort.) with thesis work in the related sciences /crops.
  • Spices, Plantation, medicinal and Aromatic Crops: Students must have passed M.Sc.(Hort.) Spices and Plantation Crops / M.Sc.(Hort.) in Spices, Plantation, Medicinal and Aromatic Crops / M.Sc.(Horticulture).

  • Food Science and Nutrition: Students must have passed M.Sc. (Home Sc.) / M.Sc. in Food Science and Nutrition of TNAU/other SAUs

Provided by Forest college & Research Institute:

  • Forestry: Students must have passed M.Sc. (Forestry). In-service aspirants with M.Sc.(Ag.)/ M.Sc. (Hort.) with 3 years’ experience in Forestry/ Agro-Forestry. M.Sc. (Forestry) in Sericulture & Agroforestry / Tree Breeding & Biotechnology/ Forest Ecology / Wildlife Management Or MBA (Forest Business Management)

User Facts:

  • Students who have passed bachelor degree of four years & two year’s Master degree programme in regular method from any state agriculture college or university.
  • Students who have secured minimum 70% marks in the qualifying exam are applicable to apply. For SC/ST categories, pass in the exam is need only.
  • Should have minimum two years’ experience in Government or private organizations offered R & D facilities provideed by the organization should match with the requirements of the degree.
  • Students have to mention the no objection certificate (NOC), Statement of Purpose (SOP) & sponsorship certificate alloted from the employer in support of the degree.
  • Students must have minimum 10 years’ experience in Agriculture banking or Agriculture Insurance.

  • Pay the Application fee in online method (INR 500 for SC/ST & INR 1000 for General category students) you can pay via net banking or credit card/ Via ATM cum debit card of SBI/ Counter service at SBI discipline

Documents need to be enclosed with Application:

  • Copy of marks sheet of qualifying degree.
  • Acknowledgment card or postcard on which your address should be mentioned.
  • Code of organizing certificate alloted by the head of the institution & two professors where the student last studied.
  • Copy of Tamil Nadu community certificate alloted by Revenue officer of Tamil Nadu state (if eligible). Same would be eligible to SC/ST students of other states too.

TNAU Ph.D. Admission Procedure 2018

M.Phil/ Ph.D. in Agriculture, M.Phil/ Ph.D. in Science & M.Phil/ Ph.D. in Engineering

  • The objective written test will be of one hour period in the concerned branch.
  • Exam date & time of the written test will be intimated to the students via e-mail.
  • Students looking for admission have to appear for the written test which will be organized at TNA University campus on their own expenses.

  • Students have to submit the balance fee in support of confirmation of final seat.
  • After payment of balance fee students have to register for the course within 7 working days, failing which leads to cancellation of their candidature.

  1. The selected student can perform their research work near to their workplace.
  2. Students who will not continue the course after registration will not be applicable for refund of fees.

  1. Provisional degree certificate both bachelor’s & master’s
