Savitribai Phule Pune University (SPPU), formerly the University of Pune was established in 1948. It has been given the highest “A” rating by the National Assessment and Accreditation Council for its overall performance. The University is home to 46 academic departments. The University has affiliated colleges, departments, and research institutes, which are primarily in Pune. It is famously known as the 'Oxford of the East'. The University has now been ranked 3rd in India by the Times Higher Education World University Rankings. The university houses 46 academic departments. It has about 307 recognized research institutes and 612 affiliated colleges providing graduate and undergraduate courses. 

The university attracts many foreign students due to its excellent facilities. It provides good accommodation facility. The university provides various scholarships to the students. There is a provision of hostel for the students. There is a well-stocked library containing plenty of books regarding different subjects. The university organizes seminars and conferences for the students.

SPPU invites applications for admission to the Post-Graduate programmes for the academic year. The programmes are in different branches ranging via Arts, Science, Technology, Computer Science, Management, and Law. The applications are available online on the University website and must be filled and then sent by post to the respective departments. The programmes are for 2 years period except for LLM Programme which is now a one year programme and the two Integrated Programmes of 4 years and 5 years for M.Sc. and M.Tech. Biotechnology respectively.

Eligibility Criteria
Master of Fine Arts [MFA] , Master of Arts [MA] (Sanskrit) & Master of Arts [MA] (Economics)

You should have done your graduation in the same or concerned branch with at least 50% marks from a recognized University.

M.Sc

For Media Research, Video Production and Geology: You should be a graduate in any branch from a recognized University.

For other courses: You should have done your graduation in the same or concerned branch with at least 50% marks from a recognized University.

ME/M.Tech

You should have finished your B.E. / B.Tech. Degree in any of the concerned disciplines with a minimum Percentage and Grade Requirement of 55% marks or GPA of 3.5 out of 6.0 or 5.5 GPA out of 10 and 50% marks of 5% marks or 3 or 5 CGPA respectively, for reserved category who are domiciles of Maharashtra.

MCA

You should be any Science Graduate (including B.C.A. under Science Faculty) with Mathematics at 10+2 Level.

MBA/PGDM

You should have done your graduation in the same or concerned branch with at least 50% marks (45 % in case of backward class and persons with disability) in any bachelor’s degree honored by any University.

LLM

You should be a graduate in law from a Statutory University.

Master of Education [M.Ed] & Master of Journalism and Mass Communication [MJMC]

You should have done your graduation in the same or concerned branch with at least 50% marks from a recognized University.

Step to apply

Master of Journalism and Mass Communication [MJMC] , MA & M.Ed

You will have to register for the Application Form online. You should select any one of payment modes appropriate to you.

Once you are the registered user of this system, after clicking on the Link Online Entrance form you will be in a position to fill an Application form for an entrance examination of your desired Subject.

You must fill out all the information cautiously as per the given instructions. Once you fill all the details, click on the "Submit" button.

Then you can see the preview of your filled Application form. On that preview, there are two options Print and Update. or Bank of Maharashtra) or Online Payment via bank transfer. You must choose anyone you wish to pay via and click on Submit. Then, the Bank Challan will be get generated.

Application Fee: You should pay the application fee given below. You should log on to the website and select the subject that you are applying for. You should now click on “Confirm and Print” button. Or else if your filled information is accurate then take a printout straight by clicking on Print button. Two payment modes are available i.e. Cash (at any discipline of HDFC Bank Ltd.

  • If you select payment method as Cash, you will get 2 options for the bank as HDFC Bank or Bank of Maharashtra. You have now finished the online application procedure.

    • Online Payment: If you select payment method as Online Payment, click on Submit, you will be getting redirected to University Online Payment Gateway.

    Selection Procedure

    MA

    For MA Geography: You will be selected on the basis of an Entrance Exam.

    For MA Philosophy: If you have no background in Philosophy, you will be selected on the basis of an Entrance/Interview cum presentation. Otherwise, you will be selected on the basis of merit.

    For other courses: You will be selected on the basis of merit.

    M.Sc

    For M.Sc. Geography and Geology: You will be selected on the basis of an Entrance Exam organized by the respective Departments.

    For other courses: You will be selected on the basis of merit.

    ME/M.Tech

    For Computer Science: You will be selected on the basis of GATE score in Engineering or any Mathematical or Physical Sciences or UGC/CSIR JRF qualification.

    For other courses: You will be selected on the basis of Entrance Exam organized by the respective Departments.

    MCA

    You will be selected on the basis of an Entrance Exam organized by the Department of Computer Science.

    MBA/PGDM

    You will be selected on the basis of a Written Test followed by an Interview organized by PUMBA (Department of Management Sciences).

    LLM

    You will be selected on the basis of an Entrance Test organized by the Faculty of Law. The paper will have 5 sections comprising of Constitutional Law, Human Rights, Legal Theory and Jurisprudence, Indian Penal Code, 1860 and General Knowledge where each unit carries 10 questions. The question paper shall have 50 multiple choice questions, 2 marks each carrying a total of 100 marks.

    It will be for a period of one hour.

    Master of Education [M.Ed] & Master of Journalism and Mass Communication [MJMC]

    You will be selected on the basis of merit.

    Reservation Criteria

    As per Government of Maharashtra Rules:

    • 50% seats are reserved for SC, ST, DTNT & OBC
    • 30% seats are reserved for female aspirants for Graduate courses
    • 5% seats are Reserved for children of Defence Personnel or Ex-Servicemen; and
    • 3% seats are reserved for physically handicapped students
