Savitribai Phule Pune University, formerly known as the University of Pune, was established in 1948. The university is home to 46 academic departments and has more than 70 Research Institutions recognized to it. The University of Pune has several affiliated colleges, departments, and research institutes, situated primarily in Pune.

The university provides research programs in various subjects and interdisciplinary areas leading to the Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) degree. For admission to Ph.D., aspirants should possess a Master's degree with at least 55% aggregate in marks. Selection of the aspirant is based on the written test organized by the university. However, those who have eligible for national level entrance tests and fellowship are exempted from appearing in the entrance test. The university has commenced application procedure for admission to the Ph.D. Program for the academic year. The application procedure begins and duly filled-in forms must be submitted to the university. The written test will be held by the university and results will be declared subsequently. Eligibility Criteria
Ph.D. (Atmospheric Sciences), Ph.D. (Biotechnology) & Ph.D. (Botany)

The aspirant should fulfill any of the following conditions:

  • The aspirant should have passed post-graduate degree (Master’s Degree) examination Law Faculty with at least 55% marks for general category and 50% marks for reciter category of Maharashtra State only.
  • The aspirant should have passed post-graduate degree (Master’s Degree) examination with at least 50% marks or equivalent Grade Point Average (GPA) for general category and 45% marks for reserved category of Maharashtra State only.

Enclosures: Aspirant should attach the following documents along with the Application Form:

  • Attested Xerox copy of Mark list of Master's Degree
  • Attested Xerox copy of the Caste Certificate in case of Reserved Categories (if applicable)
  • University copy of Bank Challan.
  • Attested copy of the earlier result of Ph. D.
  • Attested Xerox copy of the Medical Certificate allowed by Civil Surgeon in case of Persons with Disabilities (P.H.) aspirants (if applicable)

Selection Procedure

You will be selected on the basis of Ph.D. Entrance Examination. The exam consists of two papers.

Paper-I consists of 3 Parts: Logical Reasoning, Numerical Ability; and Reasoning and Language Aptitude. The paper contains a total of 100 questions and 100 marks in total. All the questions and multiple choice type questions where each accurate response carries 1 Mark. There is no negative marking for an inaccurate response.

You should obtain a minimum of 50% marks in Paper 1 in case of general category and 45% in case of reserved category. It is only when you qualify Paper 1, will you be able to sit for Paper 2 of the Entrance Exam.

Paper 2: This will be the subject-specific test of a total of 100 marks which will consist of 2 parts: Multiple Choice Questions for 20 marks and Theoretical / Descriptive Questions for 80 marks.

Concessions: Students will be exempted from giving the entrance exam if they fulfill the following conditions:

  • If the aspirants have eligible in GATE (valid score) /GPAT (valid score)/ SETA {ET/JRF/SRF Examinations of apex bodies such as CSIR-UGC /ICRA/ICMR/DBT and DST inspire fellowship only.
  • If the aspirants have an M. Phil degree finished from any Statutory Recognized University in a relevant subject

Reservation Criteria

The reservation policy will be as per the norms prescribed by the Government of India.
