SPPU (Savitribai Phule Pune University), formerly the University of Pune was established in 1948. More than 70 Research Institutions have been recognized by the University. It has been given the highest “A” rating by the National Assessment and Accreditation Council for its overall performance. The University has affiliated colleges, departments, and research institutes, which are primarily in Pune. The University has now been ranked 3rd in India by the Times Higher Education World University Rankings. The University is home to 46 academic departments.
The University provides Master of Philosophy (M.Phil.) Degree in different branches. It will have both research and course components and will give the student adequate background for advanced research. The M.Phil. Degree shall have the status of an intermediate Degree between the first Post-Graduate Degree and the Doctorate Degree. The M.Phil. The course can be done either on a full-time or on a Vocational basis depending upon the availability of the programme in the Department/College.
The period of the full-time M.Phil. The course shall be 12 months. The vocational M.Phil. The programme shall extend over a duration of 24 months. The facility of vocational M.Phil. The programme shall be restricted to full-time teachers of Colleges/Universities and full-time research workers of the Recognised Institutions within the jurisdiction of the University of Pune.
The University invites Applications for admission to the M.Phil. Programme for the academic year. The admission is via an Entrance Test organized by the respective Departments.

You should have a Master's Degree in the same or concerned branch, with 50% marks for general category and 45% marks for reserved category, from a recognized University.
Aspirants have a Master’s degree or a professional degree declared equivalent to the Master’s degree by the corresponding statutory regulatory body, with at least 55% marks in aggregate or its equivalent grade ‘B’ in the University Grant Commission 7-point scale (or an equivalent grade in a point scale wherever grading system is followed) or an equivalent degree from a foreign educational institution accredited by an Assessment & Accreditation Agency which is approved, recognized or authorized by an authority, established or incorporated under a law in its home country or any other statutory authority in that country for the purpose of assessing, accrediting or assuring quality and standards of educational institutions
A relaxation of 5% of marks, from 55% to 50%, or an equivalent relaxation of grade, shall be allowed for those belonging to reserved categories/Differently-Abled and other categories of Aspirants as per policies of the Govt. of Maharashtra prescribed from time to time, or for those who had obtained their Master’s degree prior to 19th September 1991
The eligibility marks of 55% (or an equivalent grade in a point scale wherever grading system is followed) and the relaxation of 5% to the categories mentioned above are permissible based only on the qualifying marks without including the grace mark procedures

Application Fee: You should pay the application fee of Rs. 400 for general category and Rs. 300 for reserved category via either Cash (at any discipline of HDFC Bank Ltd., or Bank of Maharashtra); or Online Payment via bank transfer. After this, the Bank Challan will be get generated. You should then take a printout of this challan (by clicking a link "Print Challan") and pay cash in cash counter of any discipline of selected bank.

You should then submit your Application form with the need attachments and send them to the respective University departments.
You will be selected on the basis of satisfactory performance at the Master’s Degree Examination and the performance at the Entrance Examination organized by the Department/College-related.
Aspirants graduating from the colleges conducted to the Savitribai Phule Pune University SPPU:
50 % weightage will be given to the performance at the Entrance Examination
50 % weightage will be given to the total marks obtained in qualifying examination
Aspirants graduating from any Indian Statutory Universities other than Pune University:
The merit criterion will be based exclusively on their performance in the Entrance Examination.

As per Government of Maharashtra Rules, 50% seats are reserved for SC, ST, DTNT, OBC and 3% seats are reserved for physically handicapped students. Also, 570 seats are reserved for children of Defence personnel /Ex-serviceman.
