South Asian University (SAU) is an International University sponsored by the eight Member (Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Bhutan, India, Maldives, Nepal, Pakistan and Sri Lanka) States of the South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation (SAARC). South Asian University started its first academic session in 2010, at a temporary campus at Akbar Bhawan, India. Presently the University provides admission to different Ph.D. programs in The degrees of the university are recognised by all the member nations of the SAARC.

Aspirants with the relevant qualification can register for the above-mentioned programmes. Seats are reserved for people belonging to India and other SAARC and Non-SAARC aspirants as per SAU rules.

Aspirants can register for admission by filling in the application form and be submitting the need procedures fee, on or before the last date. Admission to the above programmes is done on the basis of entrance examination and interview.

Eligibility Criteria 2018

Ph.D. in Applied mathematics

Intake capacity: 08 seats

  • Aspirant must have passed any Master’s degree in Mathematics/Computer Science/Statistics/Operations Research/Physics or an integrated Bachelor’s and Master’s degree of minimum 5 years period in Mathematics/Computer Science/Statistics/Operations Research/Physics from an institution recognised by the government of any of the SAARC countries
  • Aspirant must have hold of  a 3 or 4 year Bachelor’s degree(with Mathematics as a subject for minimum two years)  from an institution recognised by the government of any of the SAARC countries
  • Aspirant must have finished  12 years of schooling  from a valid board/institute recognised by the government of any of the SAARC countries

Ph.D. in Biotechnology

Intake capacity: 10 seats

  • Aspirant must have finished  12 years of schooling  from a valid board/institute recognised by the government of any of the SAARC countries
  • Aspirant must have hold of MSc or M.tech degree in any discipline of the Biological Sciences or an MD/MS/ MSc from an institution recognised by the government of any of the SAARC countries
  • Aspirant must have hold of  a 3 or 4 year Bachelor’s degree in any area of Biological Sciences / Chemistry / Agriculture and allied sciences/ Veterinary and allied sciences / Biotechnology / Biochemical Technology from an institution recognised by the government of any of the SAARC countries

Ph.D. in Computer Science

Intake capacity: 08 seats

  • Aspirant must have hold of MSc/M.tech degree in Computer Science or relevant branches from an institution recognised by the government of any of the SAARC countries
  • Aspirant must have hold of  a 3 or 4 year Bachelor’s degree in computer science or equivalent degree from an institution recognised by the government of any of the SAARC countries
  • Aspirant must have finished  12 years of schooling  from a valid board/institute recognised by the government of any of the SAARC countries

Ph.D. in Development Economics

Intake capacity: 08 seats

  • Aspirant must have finished  12 years of schooling  from a valid board/institute recognised by the government of any of the SAARC countries
  • Aspirant must have hold of  a 3 or 4 year Bachelor’s degree(with math as one of the subjects at UG/10+2 level) in any stream from an institution recognised by the government of any of the SAARC countries
  • Aspirant must  have hold of MA/MSc degree in Economics or relevant stream from an institution recognised by the government of any of the SAARC countries

Ph.D. in International Relations

Intake capacity: 08 seats

  • Aspirant must have finished  12 years of schooling  from a valid board/institute recognised by the government of any of the SAARC countries
  • Aspirant must have hold of  a 3 or 4 year Bachelor’s degree in any stream from an institution recognised by the government of any of the SAARC countries
  • Aspirant must have hold of post-graduate degree in International Relations or concerned branches like Political Science, Economics, Psychology, Anthropology, Sociology, History, Philosophy, Linguistics, Mass Communications, Education, Geography, Law, Social Work, Development Studies, Criminology, Archaeology , Cultural Studies, Gender Studies, Post-Colonial Studies, Comparative Literature and Comparative Religious Studies; from an institution recognised by the government of any of the SAARC countries

Ph.D.  In Sociology

Intake capacity: 08 seats

  • Aspirant must have hold of  a 3 or 4 year Bachelor’s degree in any stream from an institution recognised by the government of any of the SAARC countries
  • Aspirant must have passed post-graduate degree in Sociology or concerned branches like Political Science, Economics, Psychology, Social Anthropology, History, Philosophy, Linguistics, Mass Communication, Education, Geography, Law, Social Work, Development Studies, Criminology, Archaeology, Cultural Studies, Gender Studies, Post-Colonial Studies, Comparative Literature, Comparative Religious Studies and Sociology of Science from an institution recognised by the government of any of the SAARC
  • Aspirant must have finished  12 years of schooling  from a valid board/institute recognised by the government of any of the SAARC countries

Ph.D. in Legal Studies

Intake capacity: 06 seats

  • Aspirant must have hold of a 5 year integrated BA/LLB degree or 2 or 3 year Bachelor’s degree + a 3 year LLB degree or 4 year LLB degree from an institution recognised by the government of any of the SAARC countries
  • Aspirant must have hold of 2 years LLM programme from an institution recognised by the government of any of the SAARC
  • Aspirant must have finished  12 years of schooling  from a valid board/institute recognised by the government of any of the SAARC countries


Admission Procedure of SAU (South Asian University) Ph.D Admission 2018

Aspirants are selected on the basis of merit in the entrance examination organizeed by SAU throughout the region of SAARC followed by an interview.


Reservation of Seats for SAU (South Asian University) Ph.D Admission 2018

50% seats are reserved for Indian aspirant and rest 50% of seats are reserved for the aspirants of other seven country members of SAARC

Scholarships

Different scholarships/free ships available for the aspirants of SAU for the academic year 2017-18 are:

  • SAU tuition fee waiver for deserving research aspirants
  • SAARC India Silver Jubilee Scholarship for Post Graduate and research (Ph.D. /M.Phil.) programs
  • Financial support from SAU to the research scholars not receiving any sort of funds/scholarship
  • SAU free ships(for MA/M.Sc./LLM)
  • President’s scholarship (for MA/M.Sc./LLM)
  • SAU merit scholarship
  • Research fellowships from external agencies

Hostel

SAU offers hostel accommodation to the aspirants residing outside the National Capital Region of Delhi (NCR). Hostel Fee (US $ 60 per semester) and mess charges (US$ 50 to 75 per month) shall have to pay separately.
