NMU [North Maharashtra University] was founded in 1990 is situated in Jalgaon, Maharashtra. There is 220 affiliated colleges and 4 University recognized Research Institutes/Centres under the jurisdiction of University. Out of these, 1 college is recognized as College of Excellence, 5 colleges have been identified as College with Potential for Excellence. It has been honored 'A' Grade by NAAC.

The University has been honored 1st position in Maharashtra State and 40th position among 620 universities in India by the India Today survey of 2013. There are 13 Schools and 01 Institute imparting education in different undergraduate, postgraduate and Ph.D. Programmes. The University has successfully adopted the School Concept with academic flexibility for the optimal use of infrastructure and resources.

The Ph.D. Programme for the academic 2018 year provided by the University is in different specializations. For a regular full-time programme, it shall ordinarily involve work in University Schools / Departments, Research Institutes / Centres (In colleges or industries) or recognized the place of research by North Maharashtra University.

The admission to the Ph.D. Programme is via an Entrance Test followed by an Interview. The application procedure is online via the website which will be available from June 28. Out of total available seats, 50% seats each will be situated to those who qualify the Entrance Test and 50% seats for those who are exempted from the Entrance Test as mentioned consequently.

Eligibility Criteria

Ph.D. (Library & Information Science)

You should have an M. Lib degree or should have eligible I.Sc. / NET /SET /JRF examinations.

Ph.D. (Journalism and Mass Communication)

You should have any post-graduation degree and any NET/SET/JRF.

M.Phil/Ph.D in Science , M.Phil/Ph.D in Arts & M.Phil/Ph.D in Commerce

You should any post-graduation degree with at least 50 % marks or equivalent CGPA from any recognized statutory University.

Step to apply

M.Phil/Ph.D in Science , M.Phil/Ph.D in Arts & M.Phil/Ph.D in Commerce

You should apply online for admission to the Ph.D. Programme. You can pay the following Application fee via online generated challan/online payment gateway:

  • Rs. 1000 for general category students
  • Rs. 800 for reserved category
  • Rs. 5000 for foreign students

Print the hard copy of the submitted online Application Form by clicking Download Application Form.

Enclosures: Attach the following supporting documents along with the hard copy of the online Application Form:

  • Attested photocopy of marks-sheet of Master’s Degree or M.Phil. Degree
  • Attested photocopies of the Certificate(s) of claiming to fulfill the conditions for the concession from Entrance Test
  • The challan/transaction slip prescribed Entrance Test fee
  • Attested photocopy of the Caste Certificate and Domicile certificate in case of reserved categories.
  • Attested photocopy copy of the Medical Certificate allowed by Civil Surgeon in case of Physically and Visually Handicapped aspirants.

Enclose the hard copy of the online Application Form along with the supporting documents as mentioned above and the challan/transaction slip of prescribed fee in an envelope of size 36 cm x 25 cm. Even if you want concession from Entrance Test, you will have to apply online only.

Fill the information cautiously. Upload your scanned passport size photo and signature (signed with black ink).

Selection Procedure

M.Phil/ Ph.D. in Arts, M.Phil/ Ph.D. in Mass Communication & M.Phil/ Ph.D. in Science

Your selection with being based on the Ph.D. Entrance Test devised and organized by the University. If you qualify via Entrance Test, shall have to appear for an interview before the committee constituted for the allotment of the Research Guides.

Paper-I would be General Aptitude Test of 100 marks with multiple choice type questions covering logical reasoning, numerical ability, reasoning and language aptitude. You will able to write the Paper 2 only if you qualify this paper. You should score 50 % marks and above (45 % marks and above, in case of SC/ST category). Paper-II would be a Subject Specific test of 100 marks, out of which 20 marks will be situated to multiple choice objective questions covering relevant subjects in the faculty and 80 marks will be situated to theoretical descriptive questions in the relevant subject.

Concessions for Entrance Test:

  • You should have eligible in SET/NET/JRF examinations of the apex bodies as CSIR/UGC/ICAR/ ICMR/DBT
  • For persons with exceptional abilities and Senior Citizens at the discretion of Vice-Chancellor
  • If you have Passed M.Phil., M.E./M.Tech, M.Pharm from statutory University
  • For teachers having 5 years regular (unconditional approval) teaching experience at U.G./P.G., You should score 50 % marks and above (45 % marks and above, in case of SC/ST category). level

  • For foreign students

Reservation Criteria

Reservation criteria will be as per reservation policy of the government of Maharashtra. However, aspirants from other state Universities will not be considered for reserved seats. Fee Structure for Admission/Entrance Test:

The Fee of Rs.1200/- (for foreign students Rs.6000/-) (Rs.1000/- for SC/ST) Aspirants should be paid via an online payment gateway. The fee once paid will not be refunded. The Aspirants those who are eligible to get the exemption from Entrance Test will also have to pay the fee as mentioned above

Hall Ticket/Admit Card

The Hall ticket will be offered to all Aspirants only online on the University Website www.nmu.ac.in by entering the application number. You have to take a printout of the Hall Ticket, by clicking “Print Hall Ticket” link available at www.nmu.ac.in
