NIMS (Nizam Institute of Medical Sciences) MD and MS Admission 2018

Nizam’s Institute of Medical Sciences was founded in the year 1887 which was a result of the amalgamation of Hyderabad school and Madarsa-i-Aliya. Nizam’s is the most reputed and oldest institution imparting higher education in South India. Nizam’s was affiliated to the Madras University for around 60 years and after that, it was made a Constituent College of Osmania University on February 19th in the year 1947.  In the year 1988-1989 Nizam’s was first granted Autonomous Status for the best Undergraduate courses by UGC. Nizam’s has finished 25 successful years of autonomy.

NIMS provides different courses and invites application for MD and MS courses for the year 2018-19. The institute has a placement cell which offers on-campus job appointments and is connected to the most popular industries like Wipro, Infosys, Cognizant, Satyam, GE, Nipuna, etc. A total of 25-50 reputed companies visit the campus in order to heir the students from the institution.

Nizam is inviting applications for the MD and MS courses for which limited seats are available for the most deserving aspirants. The period for these courses is 3 years. Eligibility to take admission in the MS and MD courses is MBBS. The entrance exam will be held in the month of February. Admission for the same will be held in the month of April/March for which the last date of application submission will be 31st of May.

Aspirants want admission in MD/MS required to hold an MBBS degree from a recognized university with minimum 45% marks.

Interested Aspirants should fulfill following eligibility criteria:

=> Aspirants who have passed MBBS examination from Medical Colleges recognized by MCI and completed Internship at the time of their applying are eligible.

=> Aspirants who will be completing Internship on or before 31/03/2018 are also eligible to apply.

=> Requirement of compulsory rotating internship shall not be condoned unless approved by the Medical Council of India (MCI).

=> The Aspirants who have already registered for any regular or part-time course at NIMS and would like to apply for admission to another course at NIMS, shall resign from such Training /course in the Institute.

Step To Apply


Selection of the aspirants for the courses under MS/MD will be done on the basis of merit list. The selected aspirants will be invited for the counseling and the best deserving aspirants will be selected for admission keeping in mind the seats available for each course.

a) In case the aspirant avails the seat but fails to pay the fee or fails to submit the necessary documents on the spot will not be granted admission

b) If an aspirant has made the payment, but fails to submit the admission form or the relevant documents will not be granted admission.

c) In case an aspirant violates the rules of the institution, the admission for the same can be canceled by the authorities.

d) No readmission will be granted after completion of four weeks of the opening date of instructions.

  • Aspirants who pass the entrance exam will be called for a counseling which is scheduled for 10 am, dated: 31st May 2018. Aspirants will not be entertained after 10 am. Aspirants are requested to report for the counseling half hour before the counseling starts. The counseling will be held at Academic 3 Section, 2nd floor, Old OPD Block, NIMS.
  • Aspirants are to bring the admit card, Counseling fee of Rs. 10,000 along with the certificates and documents in original which are mentioned in the prospectus available on the official website of NIMS.
  • The aspirants who are selected provisionally, are requested to join the particular course immediately by fulfilling the conditions and the remaining admission fee of Rs. 1500/-.
  • Aspirants are to submit all the original documents and complete all the formalities as mentioned in the prospectus.

Admission Procedure


  • Aspirants want admission in any courses of MD/MS will be shortlisted on the basis of the merit list For spot admission, when the aspirant’s name, marks, etc, are released, the aspirant is to produce the receipt of the application form in order to obtain entry into the room where admission is taking place.
  • Aspirants are to submit the original transfer certificate along with 2 sets of photocopies of the below-mentioned certificates:-
  1. Pass/Provisional Certificate of the exam that has been eligible by the aspirants
  2. Memorandum of marks obtained
  3. Bonafide certificate/ Study certificate of school or intermediate
  4. Aspirants applying under any quota must submit the supporting certificate, for example, if an aspirant is applying under the BC quota then the supporting certificate is to be submitted in which it will be clearly mentioned that the aspirant belongs to the BC category, same applies for all the other quotas.
  5. If an aspirant has passed from a board other than intermediate, Government of Andhra Pradesh must submit the Migration certificate/ No-Objection certificate.
  6. Aspirants are to submit six recent passport size photographs along with the above-mentioned documents.

Aspirants must make sure that the above-mentioned documents being submitted by them are valid and up-to-date. Also, aspirants must pay the fee that has to be paid during the admission process.

Reservation Criteria

  1. 85% seats are reserved for local aspirants and the remaining 15% seats are reserved for both local and non-local aspirants.
  2. BC (A): 7%, BC (B): 10%, BC (C): 1%, BC (D): 7%, BC (E): 4%, ST: 6% and SC: 15%. Total 50% seats are reserved for the BC/SC/ST.
  3. 33.3% of seats are reserved for women aspirants in each course available.
  4. 5% seats are available for the NIQ Quota
  5. 60% seats are available for the students who had commerce as a subject and are want admission in B.Com. Rest of the 40% seats are reserved for both commerce and non-commerce streams.
  6. Reservation is given to the aspirants falling in the category that comprises NCC: 2%, Games, and Sports: 2%, Extra-curricular activities: 1%, Children of Ex-servicemen and Armed Personnel: 1% and physically challenged: 3%.
