HNLU (Hidayatullah National Law University) is an autonomous law university in New Raipur, Chhattisgarh. The university provides a B.A. LL.B. (Hons.) integrated Programme, an L.L.M. Programme, and Ph.D. Course. It was founded as a center for legal excellence by the Government of Chhattisgarh. It is one of the National Law Schools founded in India being sixth in the series of such national law schools. The University is named after the former Chief Justice of India, Justice Mohammad Hidayatullah.

It is a residential university and is affiliated to and receives central assistance from the University Grants Commission and is recognized by the Bar Council of India. The students belonging to the state domicile Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes and Other Backward Class, and PWD and minorities are offered with scholarships by the state government.

The University provides LLM Programme in different specializations. The programme is for a period of one year spread over three trimesters. The LLM Programme of HNLU is designed to inculcate research skills and analytical abilities in students. The admission to the programme will be done on the basis of Common Law Entrance Test (CLAT) It has an intake of a total of 47 seats.

You should have passed the LLB/BL Degree or an equivalent degree from a recognized University with at least 55% marks in case of general category and 50% marks in case of SC and ST category.

You shall be qualified even if you are appearing or have appeared in the qualifying degree examination and are awaiting results. However, you must have passed the final year/final semester at the time of admission and must be able to submit proofs for the same.

If you have passed your qualifying degree examination via supplementary or compartment and repeat attempts, then also you are qualified offered you to submit the proof of passing the qualifying exam with the above-mentioned minimum requirement of marks.

Step To Apply


For Registration to CLAT

Step 1: You should register yourself on the CLAT official website.

Step 2: You must then fill your personal, academics and other details as mentioned in the form including the programme you are applying for.

Step 3: You should upload your Front facing Passport size clear photograph with clear lenses (30mm x 45 mm. You should also upload your signature. Both of them should be in JPost Graduate Pattern, with size not more than 100 kb.

Step 3: You need to upload the following documents in PDF pattern only:

  • Domicile Certificate (if applicable)
  • Certificate of impairment for Specially Abled Persons (SAP) and Declaration by the Scribe in the prescribed pattern
  • Latest Category Certificate (SC/ST/OBC)
  • Birth certificate

Step 4: CLAT Application fees: You must make the payment of application form fees of Rs. 4000 for General Category and Rs. 3500 for Reserved Category either online via Debit/ Credit Card or via offline ICICI Bank Challan.

Step 5: You should then finally β€œSubmit” your Application Form online only. This completes your registration procedure.

Admission Procedure


You will be selected on merit, based on the Common Law Entrance Test (CLAT) for the postgraduate programme.

The test will carry a total of 200 marks. There shall be three various types of questions:

  1. Objective Type: There will be 50 questions of one mark each in the Objective Type Test.
  2. Short Response Type: There will be 10 questions of five marks each to be responded in short sentences.
  3. Essay Type: There will be 2 questions of 50 marks each. The examination will have two sections containing three questions each, out of which one from each section has to be a response.
