National Law University, Orissa is a public University imparting professional law education, research, and training. The university provides admission to the following law programmes:  The university is founded in 2009 and has two campuses. promises to be an exciting new development in the field of legal education. A very new institution, its establishing Act of legislature was notified as recently as April 2009 and within a span of four months, classes commenced with the entrance being conducted in May. Now in its second year, the University has made a name for itself by earning laurels with the excellent performance of its candidate in various seminars, conferences, and moot courts.

National Law University Odisha is situated in Cuttack, a city dating back to over a thousand years, and also boasts a rich legal heritage – not only is the Orissa High Court situated here, but also some of the finest lawyers and judges of the country trace their roots back to this city. The University is presently situated in temporary premises along the Mahanadi river, towards the north-west of the city’s present limits. It is scheduled to move to a new purpose-built campus at Naraj, a location being developed as an institutional area. Currently, the University has admitted candidate from no less than twenty-five States, representing a diverse range of socio-economic, ethnic, religious and cultural backgrounds. We hope that in the years to come, the candidate from even more diverse backgrounds will join National Law University Odisha, thereby underscoring its truly national character.

Only aspirants with the relevant qualification can register for the above-mentioned programmes. Seats are reserved for people belonging to various categories such as SC/ST/BC etc. as well as special categories viz. Differently-abled, women etc.

Aspirants can register for admission by filling in the application form and submitting the need procedure fee, on or before March 31, 2018 (tentative). Admission to the above programmes is done on the basis of marks secured by the aspirants in the CLAT-2018.

Admission Eligibility

  • The aspirants under Foreign National Category shall be admitted directly on the basis of their 12th / Intermediate marks
  • However, applications under NRI/NRI Sponsored Category shall be considered for admission in case the aspirants had appeared for CLAT-2018 under NRI/NRI Sponsored category
  • They shall send the filled in application form along with the copy of the hall ticket of CLAT 2018, other relevant documents and prescribed fees. They shall be admitted as per their Rank in CLAT 2018, depending upon the required.
  • aspirants of the above-mentioned categories shall fulfill other requirements regarding age and qualifications as per CLAT-2018 and NLUO eligibility Regulations
  • The merit list of Foreign Nationals will be determined on the basis of their 12th marks. If there is a tie, then the marks of the 10th level will be taken into consideration
  • If still there is no change in rank then, the higher in age shall get preference or in case of need the final admission will be done based on a lottery

  • Aspirant whose result is awaited can also apply for the stated programme.
  • The aspirant has to qualify CLAT-2018
  • The aspirant must not be more than 20 years of age (22 years in case of SC / ST and persons with disability) as on July 1, 2018.  
  • The aspirant should have passed Higher Secondary School Examination / Intermediate Examination (10+2)/any equivalent examination not less than 45% marks in aggregate (40% in case of SC / ST and persons with disability).

Aspirants must apply for admission by filling and submitting a finished application before March 31, 2018 (tentative). All fields in the application form should be correctly and completely filled-in with the relevant information.

The aspirant should log on to the university website and follow the given steps:

  1. Download and take the printout of  the application form
  2. Fill the application form manually with the necessary information
  3. Enclose the application form with the important documents
  4. Pay the application fee through demand draft drawn in favor of the Registrar, NLUO payable at Cuttack
  5. The aspirant shall send the application form along with the necessary enclosures  to the following address:

  1. The aspirant must keep the Xerox copy of the finished applications for subsequent use

The aspirant must send the photo affixed and duly signed the application and the following copies of following documents.

  1. Transfer Certificate   
  2. HSC/CBSE/other equivalent mark sheet
  3. Community Certificate (For OC aspirants community certificate not need)   
  4. Certificates for Special categories, if need     
  5. Nativity Certificate if need   
  6.  Date of Birth Certificate (SSC / ICSE / CBSE).
  7. Medical certificate

Application Process

  • aspirants who wish to apply under Foreign Nationals Category / NRI / NRI sponsored category shall submit the duly filled in application form which can be downloaded from our Website with all supporting documents along with DD (Demand Draft) for Rs. 20,000/-drawn in favor of Registrar, National Law University Odisha, payable at Cuttack on or before 18th June 2018
  • Selected aspirants should complete the admission formalities by paying required fees on the scheduled dates to be announced in the University
  • This amount of Rs.20000/- is not refundable but adjustable in the fee payable by the aspirants
  • However, Rs.18000/- will be refunded after a deduction of Rs.2000/-towards administrative charges, in case she/he is not getting shortlisted for admission at NLUO, Cuttack
  • Once the aspirants are admitted under the Foreign Nationals/NRI/NRI sponsored category the admission will not be converted into any other category subsequently

Aspirants will be selected for the integrated programmes on the basis of their merit in CLAT-2018 followed by the counseling.
