National Academy of Legal Studies & Research University is ranked as one of the top Universities in India. The university provides undergraduate (UG), post-graduate (PG) as well as M.Phil. and Ph.D. degree programs.The university provides admission to the Ph.D. /M.Phil. programme in the following branches:

Only aspirants with the relevant postgraduate degree in law or any other equivalent degree can register for the above mentioned Ph.D./M.Phil. programme. The aspirant can register themselves to the above-mentioned course by submitting finished applications along with the registration fee of Rs. 2000/- (for open category aspirants) and Rs. 1000/- (for SC/ST category aspirants) via DD. The aspirant can get admission to the above mentioned course via entrance test organized by the university.

Eligibility Criteria for Ph.D. & M.Phil Courses

M.Phil/ Ph.D. in Law

M.Phil. (10 seats):

The aspirant must possess LL.M. Aspirants who are appearing for the qualifying examination are also applicable to register for the programme.


  • The aspirant must possess master’s degree in law or in any other branch from a recognised University with minimum 55% marks or its equivalent grade.
  • Judge of any State High Court in India with three years experience or Judge of Supreme Court of India is also applicable to apply.
  • Aspirants who have passed the Company Secretary Examination organized by the Institute of Company Secretaries of India and have been honored the Associate Membership of the Institute (ACS) can also register for the programme.
  • Aspirants who have passed the final examination of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of India, New Delhi are also applicable to apply.
Degree from any recognised University with at least ‘B+’ grade or an aggregate of 55% marks (for open category aspirants) and 50% marks (for SC / ST / Persons with Disability).

Application Procedure for Ph.D. & M.Phil Courses

M.Phil/ Ph.D. in Law

  • The aspirant can download the application form available at the official university website and fill all the entries with relevant information.
  • The aspirant must also submit the application fee of Rs. 2000/- (for open category aspirants) and Rs. 1000/- (for SC/ST category aspirants) via demand draft (DD). DD should be drawn in favor of “Registrar, NALSAR University of Law” and payable at Hyderabad.

Admission Procedure for Ph.D. & M.Phil Courses

M.Phil/ Ph.D. in Law

  • Aspirants who pass the entrance test will need to submit a preliminary proposal to get shortlisted for the interview round. If the percentage of plagiarism exceeds 15% in the proposal, then the aspirants will not be called for the interview
  • The research proposal shall be evaluated by all members of the Research Committee and accordingly, the aspirants will be shortlisted for the course.
  • Selection of the aspirant will be based on the marks scored in the entrance examination organized by the university.
  • If the aspirant completes the admission test and the interview, they will need to attend Research Methodology course to be organized by the University. After successful completion of the course, aspirants will have to submit their research proposal
