Founded in 1857, Mumbai University (MU) is the oldest University situated in Mumbai, Maharashtra and one of the first three universities in India. Several private colleges in and around Mumbai are affiliated to MU. The University of Mumbai is one of the largest universities in the world in terms of the number of students. The Institute of Distance and Open Learning (IDOL) is a part of Mumbai University which provides different courses under the Distance Learning mode. 

IDOL invites applications for BA, B.Com., B.Sc. among the undergraduate courses and MA, M.Com., M.Sc., MCA, PGDFM (Post Graduate Diploma in Financial Management) and PGDORM (Post Graduate Diploma in Operations Research for Management) Programme at the postgraduate level for the academic year 2017-18. Admission to MCA program is done via an Entrance Exam whereas aspirants are shortlisted for the rest of the courses based on merit. Also, check IDOL Mumbai Admission 2017-18.

IDOL Mumbai Admission 2018 Eligibility Criteria

BA

You should fulfill any of the following criteria:

  • You should have passed for admission to F.Y.B.A (First year BA) course
  • You should have passed H.S.C. (Class 12th) or Equivalent Exam

B.Com

You should fulfill any of the following criteria:

  • You should have passed H.S.C. (Class 12th) or Equivalent Exam with Commerce.
  • You should have passed for admission to F.Y.B.Com.

B.Sc

You must have passed the higher secondary examination. If you have passed the three-year technical diploma examination, then also you are applicable for admission.

MA

You should have any Bachelor’s Degree from a recognised University.

M.Com

You should have a B.Com./BMS Degree from any recognized University.

MCA

You should be a graduate in any faculty of a recognised University by UGC with at least 45% marks (at least 40% for reserved category) and Mathematics as a subject at Class 12th or higher level.

Bachelor of Science [B.Sc] (Nautical Technology)

You should fulfill any of the following criteria:

  • If you have passed Standard 11th before 1978, with the following subjects: English, Science, and Mathematics, you are also applicable for admission.
  • You should have been sponsored by a shipping company via the respective Associations as an officer trainee in the Nautical Department of a sea-going ship for an at least of twenty-four months of practical shipboard training as approved sea-going service.
  • You should have already performed a at least of twenty-four months of practical shipboard training as approved sea-going service as an officer trainee in the Nautical Department of a sea-going ship (You will have to submit a Testimonial as proof in the form of “Sea-time Certificate” from the shipping company or Attest a copy of Continuous Discharge Certificate or the certificate of competency as Navigating Officer on completion of such training).
  • You must have passed the Higher Secondary School Certificate or equivalent (Class 12th) examination organized by the Maharashtra State Board of Secondary Education, Mumbai or an examination of any other body recognised as equivalent thereto, with the following subjects: English, Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics.

Master of Arts [MA] (Education)

You should have a B.Ed. or B.A. (Education) Degree from any recognized University.

Master of Science [M.Sc] (Mathematics) & Master of Arts [MA] (Mathematics)

You should have a B.A. or B.Sc. Degree with at least 2 papers in Maths of University of Mumbai or minimum 3 papers in Maths from other University.

Master of Science [M.Sc.] (Information Technology) & Master of Science [M.Sc] (Computer Science)

You should have any Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent from a recognised University.

PG Diploma in Financial Management

You must hold a University degree in any faculty with 2 years working experience in any Organization or must have recognised professional qualifications and minimum five year’s professional experience.

Nationality: You should be an Indian national only.

IDOL Mumbai Admission 2018 How to apply?

Bachelor of Arts [BA] (Philosophy), Bachelor of Arts [BA] (Hindi) & Bachelor of Arts [BA] (Sociology)

You should apply online on the IDOL website. If you cannot go in person, you can send your application by registered post

You should apply separately in case of MCA Entrance Exam.

You should pay the Application Fee of Rs. 500 via online method i.e., Debit/ Credit Cards/ Internet Banking, or Bank Challan of Bank of Maharashtra only.

Fees for Eligibility case: You can obtain the Eligibility certificate from the website if need under the following cases:

  • Document Verification fees of Rs. 400/- will be charged if you have passed you Board/ University Examinations from other than Maharashtra State Higher Secondary Board / other than University of Mumbai
  • Eligibility fees of Rs. 220/- if you have passed your examination from Maharashtra State Universities and Diploma from MSBTE and Rs. 320/- for out of Maharashtra State Universities /Boards other than Maharashtra /Technical Boards of other State.

You should fill the Application Form with the need details.

Enclosures: You should attach the following enclosures along with the Application Form:

  • Two self-attested copies of proof of Date of Birth
  • Copy of Residence Proof
  • Three self-Attested copies of Class 12th mark sheet
  • Caste Certificate (if eligible)
  • Two years work experience certificate (For PGDFM and PGDORM only)
  • Identity Card of earlier course (For old IDOL students only)
  • Three recent passport size photographs
  • Three copies of Bachelor Degree Certificate (For MA, M.Com., M.Sc.(Maths) only)

You must then submit in person the duly filled and signed Application Form along with the original certificates and self-attested copies of the need documents to the staff at respective counters for verification.
