Mother Teresa Women’s University (MTWU), is a UGC recognized women’s only university. It provides different undergraduate and post-graduate courses with reasonable fee structures. MTWU, Kodaikanal provides Ph.D. Programmes in different branches.

The university invites applications for Ph.D. Programme in both part-time and full-time pattern. The Entrance Exam will consist of a written exam and an interview held on the same day, after which the marks of the two will be added to determine your final score. If you are interested, you should Pre-Register for the Qualifying Entrance Exam for Ph.D. Programme.

One must hold a master’s degree in the concerned branch in order to apply for admission. You may also refer to the complete eligibility criteria, for more. For Ph.D. in education one must have finished M.Ed while for Part-time Ph.D., one must have minimum 2 years of teaching or laboratory experience.

MTWU Ph.D. Admissions 2018 Eligibility Criteria

M.Phil/Ph.D in Science , M.Phil/Ph.D in Commerce & M.Phil/Ph.D in Arts

  • For Ph.D. in Education, you should have an M.Ed. degree
  • Only women aspirants are applicable to apply
  • You should have passed via 10+2+3+2 / 11+1+3+2 / 10+3+2+2 educational qualification
  • You should have a post-graduate degree in the relevant field with at least of 55% marks for general category, and 50% marks if you belong to SC/ST category or are physically or visually challenged
  • For part-time Ph.D., you should have 2 years of experience in teaching or laboratory (government or private)

How to apply?

M.Phil/Ph.D in Science , M.Phil/Ph.D in Commerce & M.Phil/Ph.D in Arts

You can download the application form from the official website of MTWU. You must send them in time to ensure they access on or before the last date for receipt of filled in Application forms.

Step 1: Download the Application form by going to the University website and by clicking on the “Academic” tab and subsequently selecting “Downloads” from the drop-down menu.

Step 2: Fill the form and affix a passport size photograph on the space offered.

Step 3: Attach a DD for Rs.550/- drawn in favor of The Registrar, Mother Teresa Women’s University, payable at Kodaikanal ONLY IN STATE BANK OF INDIA.

Step 4: Attach the other necessary documents along with the Application form:

  1. Attested Photo Copy of Cumulative Mark Statement of Post Graduate Degree
  2. Attested Photo Copy of Community Certificate
  3. Attested Photo Copy of Experience Certificate for Two years (continuous)

MTWU Ph.D. Admissions Procedure 2018

M.Phil/Ph.D in Science , M.Phil/Ph.D in Commerce & M.Phil/Ph.D in Arts

You will be selected on the basis of your performance in the entrance test and interview organized by the institute. There is no negative marking. It will also depend on the number of notified vacancies in each branch. The qualifying entrance examination for Ph.D. Programme consists of 2 steps – first the Written Examination, and then the Interview.

Written Examination:

The Written Examination will have 2 papers having multiple-choice questions. Paper 1 would be common to all aspirants and contain 50 questions, whereas Paper 2 would be for Branch Specialization (various for various branches of Ph.D.) containing 100 questions. You must take the Examination in both the Question Papers without fail.

Note: You are exempted from giving the entrance test if you have qualified NET or SET or GATE examinations.

Mother Teresa Women's University Fee Structure


After the written examinations, you have to take an interview in the respective departments or officiating departments which will assess you on the basis of your

Subject Knowledge, Subject Knowledge, and Communication Skills.

The marks from the two will subsequently be adjusted and added, and your selection will be based on that score.

Reservation Criteria

The reservation policy followed by the University is as per the Tamil Nadu Government Reservation Rules.
