The Tamilnadu Dr. MGR Medical University (TNMGRMU) is a government medical university and is the 2nd largest health sciences university in India. The university has various departments which provide a multitude of medical courses at undergraduate (UG), postgraduate (PG) and doctoral level.

The faculty of dentistry at the university provides Bachelor of Dental Surgery (BDS) & Master of Dental Surgery (MDS) programme to those who possess the relevant applicable degree. The university provides BDS/ MDS course to its students in the following branches:

Admission to the above mentioned programmes is done via marks secured by the aspirant in the university entrance examination. Aspirants can register themselves via online application procedure upon submitting the prescribed application fee of Rs. 1400/- and Rs. 1600/- for BDA and MDS courses respectively, along with relevant original certificates.

TNMGRMU MDS & BDS Admissions 2018 Eligibility Criteria


  • The aspirant must possess 50% aggregate marks in physics, chemistry, and biology at 10+2 level examination. SC/ST students shall be given 10% relaxation in at least need aggregate marks.
  • Aspirant should have clear age of 17 years on or before being admitted to the BDS course


MDS is provided in the following 9 branches:

  4. Conservative Dentistry & Endodontics
  5. Orthodontics & Dentofacial Orthopaedics

  • The aspirant must possess BDS degree of this university or any other recognised university by the authority of this university and Indian dental council, and permanent registration from state dental council.
  • The aspirant must possess BDS degree and clear one year of CRRI (Or) One year of house surgeon ship in a recognised dental college (Or) 3 years of dental exercise after BDS qualification with state dental council.

TNMGRMU MDS & BDS Admissions 2018 How to Apply


For Indian aspirants:

  • For admission to BDS/MDS programme, aspirants can fill the online application form available at the university website and submit it along with the need fee to clear the registration procedure
  • The aspirant must submit the registration fee of Rs. 1400/- and Rs. 1600/- for BDS and MDS programme respectively, for application and eligibility certificate via online payment gateway for students. Medical University, Chennai.
  • The aspirant should be of Indian origin settled in foreign countries or should be born to parents of Indian origin in a foreign country. The application and eligibility certificate fee is non-refundable

For NRI aspirants:

  • Aspirants who have passed advanced level qualification and central board examination in foreign countries can also submit application and eligibility fee amount of Rs. 10,000/- via Demand Draft (DD) in favor of The Registrar, Tamil Nadu Dr. M.G.R. Aspirant want admission under NRI quota must possess Indian passport


For Indian aspirants want admission to BDS programme:

  1. Higher Secondary School +2 certificate
  2. Transfer certificate

For Indian aspirants want admission to MDS programme:

  1. Allocation order (All India Quota/ State Quota)
  2. Community Certificate
  3. Transfer Certificate
  4. X Std / XII Std Mark Statement
  5. MBBS/MD/MS degree Certificate
  6. CRRI certificate
  7. Migration Certificate & Eligibility Certificate for students from other Universities (originals to be enclosed along with the registration application)
  8. State Council registration certificate for Under Graduate degree

For NRI quota aspirants:

  1. NRI status of the financial supporter allowed by the Indian Embassy
  2. Certificate of relationship between the NRI financial supporter and the aspirant allocated by the competent authority
  3. Valid Indian Passport of the NRI financial supporter
  4. NRE (Non Resident External) Bank Account Pass Book of the financial supporter
  5. Evidence for payment of Development charges the US $ 1000/- to the college by the NRI financial supporter (One-time payment at the time of admission only)
  6. Screening test result
  7. Medical Council of India certificate
  8. Evidence of CRRI completion in India

Selection of the aspirant will be done on the basis of the marks obtained in qualifying entrance examination and rank scored in the merit list.
