The University of Madras invites students to the different Post Graduate courses offered by the University. The University was reaccredited as ‘A’ level University by the National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) in 2007. The University has flourished into 18 schools and over 69 departments for post-graduate teachings. The university was founded in 1857 on the model of London University.

The University offers a variety of student support facilities, like Library, Hostel accommodation, Endowments, and Scholarships, ‘Earn while you Learn Scheme’, University Students Advisory Bureau, SC/ST Cell, NSS and NCC activities and avenues for Sports and Games. The University has 5 campuses, namely:

  • Marina Campus
  • Guindy Campus
  • Chepauk Campus
  • Taramani Campus
  • Maduravoyal Campus

Admission to these campuses is based on the rank and marks obtained by the student in the Tamil Nadu Common Entrance Test (TANCET) 2017. The TANCET exam is organized annually by Anna University, Chennai. The application forms can be obtained from any of the campuses, or online from the University's website.

Master of Arts [MA] (Human Resource Management) & Master of Arts [MA] (South and South East Asian Studies)

The aspirant must have a Bachelor's Degree from any recognized University.

Master of Arts [MA] (Sociology)

The aspirant must have a B.A./B.Sc. in any subject.

Master of Arts [MA] (Defence and Strategic Studies)

The aspirant must have a B.A./B.Sc./B.Com. Degree in any discipline except Indian Music, Western Music, Book Industry, Drawing and Painting, Languages(other than English), Oriental Cultures, Tourism, Corporate Secretary ship and Home Science

Master of Arts [MA] (Public Administration)

M.A. Public Administration (Tamil Medium):

The aspirant must have a Bachelor's Degree in any subject.

M.A. Public Administration (English Medium):

The aspirant must have a B.A. Public Administration/Political Science or any Degree

Master of Arts [MA] (Political Science)

The aspirant must have a Bachelor's Degree with Political Science as main or any faculty in Second Class.

Master of Arts [MA] (Economics)

Aspirant must have a B.A. Economics/B.Com./ B.A. Corporate Secretary ship / BBA / B.Sc. Mathematics / B.Sc. Statistics Degree.

Master of Arts [MA] (Econometrics)

An aspirant must have a Bachelor's Degree in Economics/ Business Economics, B.ComB.Sc. in Mathematics, Statistics or UG degree in Management or Corporate Secretary ship or Business Administration.

Master of Arts [M.A.] (Journalism & Mass Communication)

The aspirant must have a Bachelor's Degree in any subject with preference to aspirants with the background in journalism with experience of an at least of three years, and a letter of recommendation from a local daily newspaper.

Master in Journalism- Online Media (Self-Supportive):

The aspirant must have a Bachelor's Degree in any subject.

Madras University PG Admission 2018 Application Procedure

MA & M.Sc

  • The following certificates are to be sent along with the application form:
  • Application form along with the need documents is to be sent straight to the Registrar, University of Madras, Tholkapiar Valagam (Chepauk)
  • Detach the Application form, Computer Coding sheet, and Address slip from the prospectus and fill it cautiously
  • The separate application form is to be submitted for each programme.
  • Collect the prospectus form the university campus or online from official website for INR 300/-

MA & M.Sc

Admissions to all the postgraduate (PG) courses provideed by Madras University is made on the basis of marks scored by the aspirant in the qualifying examination i.e marks scored in the final undergraduate examination.

For NRI/Foreign Nationals, the selection is based on the basis of marks obtained by them in their qualifying degree course.
