Founded in 1949, Karnatak University is a UGC affiliated institution imparting quality education in the faculty of Arts, Commerce, Education, Law, Management, Science and Technology and Social Sciences. Housing over 40 Post Graduate Departments in its campus, the university provides 50 Post Graduate Courses, 4 advanced diplomas and 28 diplomas, 11 certificate courses, 26 M.Phil. and 42 Ph.D programmes.

The university provides Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) programme in regular full-time as well as a part-time mode under the following departments:

Aspirants with the relevant qualifying degree i.e. masters degree are applicable to apply for admission to PhD programme. Selection of aspirants will be done on the basis of marks scored in the entrance examination, organizeed by the university itself. Application forms are generally available from mid-February and aspirants can clear the registration procedure as per the guidelines within the stipulated time.

Eligibility Criteria for KUD (Karnatak University Dharwad) Ph.D. Admissions 2018

  • Aspirant should have studied under 10+2+3(or 10+2+5) format of education and should have obtained Master's Degree in the subject related or in the similar subject while securing an at least of 55% marks (or equivalent grade).
  • In case you have been recruited on regular basis prior to March 31, 1992 as teachers, librarians and physical education personnel in Colleges and University Departments, the at least marks shall be 50% (45% for SC/ST/Category 1) offered they are continuing in service at the time of submission of application for registration.
  • Those who possess a Post-Graduate Degree from a recognised University with 55% marks (50% for SC/ST/Category 1/Physically challenged aspirants) and fall under sponsored aspirants category are also applicable to apply for the Ph.D., Degree Programme.

Note: If the results of Master's Degree are declared in the form of grades/credits/ cumulative points in their marks cards, then such grades/points shall be converted into percentages to calculate the at least eligibility criteria as specified.


How to apply for KUD (Karnatak University Dharwad) Ph.D. Admissions 2018?

  • Application forms and the bank challan can be downloaded from the official university website or obtained in person from the university office.
  • Aspirants should submit duly filled-in applications along with necessary documents (including the original copy of the challan for Application Procedures fee and Entrance Test fees, if eligible) and need fees to the Chairman of the related Department on or before the last date.

  • If the aspirant has to claim for reservation, then he/she shall submit copies of the Caste Certificates, wherever eligible, alloted by the Tahasildar during the duration of 5 years prior to the date of this notification along with the application form.
  • The aspirant should dispatch the fees in State Bank of India/Syndicate Bank of KUD by downloading the suitable challan (online/offline).

Admission Procedure of KUD (Karnatak University Dharwad) Ph.D. Admissions 2018

  • The Merit list of the selected students will be prepared by giving 50% weightage to the entrance test scored and 50% weightage for the score at Master’s Degree level. Government sponsored foreign students are also exempted from the Entrance Test. Such students shall seek registration for Ph.D. programme straight after consulting the desired research guide.
  • An entrance test of 100 marks will be organizeed by the university consisting of multiple choice questions. Each question will carry 1 mark and the syllabus would constitute of Research Methodology of 50% marks and Cognate/Core subjects of 50% marks of the P.G. Department organizing the Entrance Test.
  • Aspirants who will be shortlisted must appear for an interview and deliver a seminar or group discussion or any such mode of evaluation as per the requirement by the Admission Committee of the University.
If the aspirant has secured an at least of 50% marks ( 45% marks in case of SC/ST/Category 1 aspirants) aggregate at the entrance examination, he/she will be considered qualified for the merit list.
  • The admission test is exempted for all those who have qualified the National Eligibility Test such as NET (National level entrance test) / SLET( State level entrance test) / GATE (Graduate Aptitude test in Engineering)/ JRF(Junior Research Fellowship) / FIP (Formative Instructional exercises)/ QIP (Quality Improvement Programme) Fellows and those working under specialized funded projects.

    • Aspirants who claim reservation must submit the copies of the Caste Certificates, wherever eligible, alloted by the Tahasildar during the duration of 5 years prior to the date of this notification along with the application form
    • One seat each is reserved for the children of ex-servicemen, freedom fighters, physically challenged and sportsmen
    • To eliminate social exclusion and promote social justice, seats are reserved for SC/ST, Cat-I, Minorities, OBC and BC categories in accordance with the policy of the State Government
